Last night at 2 am I was totally befuddled about how to open (pull down) the blinds I had bought at Home Depot. The person there cut them to the right length and apparently failed to re-insert the directions. Like the previous commenter, I thought I had to un-do a thread, or slide some metal part so they would pull down. My plan was to take a blind into Home Depot in the morning and have the person in window treatments show me what I had to do to get the blinds working. I had watched NUMEROUS tutorials. NONE addressed how you get the blinds down. I called a tel # printed on the box; office closed til 8 am. Finally I gave watching tutorials one more try and and came across yours. It is the only one that was so detailed - step by step. And it was helpful you showed the printed directions step by step, too. I cannot thank you enough for your thorough, detailed, EXCELLENT tutorial. Five thumbs up!

OMG - thanks for the video and showing every step, no matter how silly it seemed. I bought 4 of this same brand from Home Depot, had them custom cut, but couldn't figure out how to lower the blinds, I assumed pulling on the plastic handles was wrecking them or getting it tangled and thought I had missed untying something. The mounting bracket works differently than all my other blinds too. Thanks for the tutorial!

Wow! Thank you so much for posting this! My husband and I bought these blinds months ago and never put them up until our daughter yanked our curtain rods down and we had to put them up immediately. Pro tip: If you are having a hard time to get the blind to snap in place, you may have to shim the front of the clip. Just use some cardboard and place it on the front of the clip (between the clip and ceiling). I used a small strip and folded it in half to double up on it. I got this info from calling the 1-800 number and speaking to their customer service. Worked great!

.........the clip broke as they were are weak as Tin Foil......the crap you get today is horrid.....the hard ware from my 1988 were 150% better quality. Too bad the strings of the blinds broke! :( After 35 years tho, I am not complaining.)
Thank you for this. Bought a place and there were no instructions for these blinds. They were taken down for painting and I could not figure out how to get them back in. My clips as it turns out were upside down! Thanks for showing the instructions and the details in your video!

Thanks for posting. My Wife is one of those women that put your tools up before your done with your project. In this case she threw away the instructions before I even looked at them. Thanks again. PS I don't like the missing strings which allowed me some distance away from the blinds. My windows are hard to get to. Due to my Wife's nic-knacks in front. In my bathroom, the window frame was tiled on all three sides. So I placed my brackets equally from the sides and marked the 4 screw grooves. I used a bottled water cap as a "spacer" to determine how far out from the window I wanted to be instead of a pencil line because it prevented any front to back movement and it ensured squareness also. I pricked punched all the grooves so that my masonry bit wouldn't wander out of place. I used a 5/32" masonry bit to just drill through the thickness of the tile and immediately stopped. Then I piloted drilled a 3/32" hole into the hidden wood above the tile for the #5 panhead wood screws that came with the kit. In hindsight the screws could have been a 1/4" longer to compensate for the tile thickness but this was a rather unique situation with the tile issue.

Glad I watched this as the instructions I have are not very clear on the brackets. Even though I was hoping for an outside instructions. Tried installing these today, did everything same way as video... But I'm having a hard time hooking the rail onto the bracket. (Whats mentioned at 4:06) It seems like there's not enough space on top to get it in there when doing an inside mount. Anyone experience this or have any tips?
Exactly why I'm on here as well. I decided to screw the brackets in majority of the way and then once I have the rail in, screw the brackets in all the way and done. Had no issues after that. Just make sure the rail is actually in where it needs to be. Came on here looking for a better way because I have a longer set to put up but I guess I'll have to do it again. Thanks for the video! Update... My second one actually went in perfectly fine. I realized you have to make sure your measurements are exactly on point and it goes right on.
Thanks. Great video, I just bought these blinds and there is 2 of metal pieces that get screwed on to the window frame. There should be 3 but one is missing

Carlos Gonzalez Thanks for watching Carlos, let’s get this figured out! If your blinds are large, you should have 3 bracket hooks mounted to attach to. If smaller, you may have 2 mounts. The actual frame of blind has insert cut-outs which are specifically for the hooks to attach onto. As you shift blinds up toward mounts, make sure you position blinds at an angle which allows blind frame to hook onto mounts. After all hooks are inside cut-out slots, you may find it easier to secure 1 mount at a time rather than trying to secure all of them at the same time. Just be careful as you know these can be tricky & annoying. Keep us posted! Please subscribe to the channel and turn on your RU-vid notification Bell that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩

Jesus Hernandez I had no instructions in my box of blinds , I was about ready to cut the strings to lower them when I called my sister and she said just pull them down! This is insane
When shortening your blinds retain the slat that is about 1.5" below the bottom sill when the assembly is lowered to the max. Your bottom horizontal rail will kiss up to that last slat prior to twisting the cords that your have cut 2" longer than the bottom of the rail at the 3 button locations. This method will insure that when you pull down the completed rail it will touch the top of the sill with a least an inch or more to spare eliminating that rocking of the blinds due to being short by fractions of an inch as the rail suspends just above the sill. If a slat or 2 remain flat doing it this way when the rail is lowered to the sill, so what, better to be a little long. I would not even venture a shortening of your blinds if you cannot eliminate at least 4 or more slats using the above recommendation method. Especially if your slats are razor thin like mine are as they rest "quietly" on top of the rail.

I had the exact same reaction. I was fantasizing ways to severely hurt the person who designed these...AND the person (or people) who approved this design! I've installed many types of mini blinds in the past and am college educated and I have never been so frustrated in my entire life. The amount of times I thought I had these up and then they fell is more than I can count on all my fingers and toes....AND even after watching this I STILL can't get them to stay up. I understand the concept and what is SUPPOSED to happen, but the front NEVER hooks. I guess I'll try again tomorrow. Major fail on the design and/or instruction end when you have to spend HOURS on the internet for such a (should be) simple thing. Just make them the way they were made 10 years ago...they were easy enough to install and they worked FINE!! Good grief!!
@@PhoenixB4U I don't understand why they abandoned the bracket that you slid the blinds into and then slid the cover in. A much stronger install the other way but I'm guessing that plastic cost them half a penny so they cut it out

My guess is you're probably not getting the front lip of the blind over the front edge of the bracket. So get the front of the blind hooked over and then rotate the blind from the bottom and the back of the bracket should clip in.

Great video! I installed 2 sets of 2 1/2 inch faux wood blinds from Home Depot; their Home Decorator brand. My instructions were clear. It took about an hour and a half, and the blinds seemed perfectly hung when I lowered them. However, when tilted, there is a 1" gap at the bottom between the lowest tilted slat and the bottom of the blind. I have the same problem on both sets. They are inside mounted with plenty of clearance front and back. The bottom piece is only a "hair" from the base of the frame, but it does not touch there.

michael garfias Thanks for watching & sharing your experience. These little snaps can be tricky at times. We recommend verifying that your blind bracket mounts (that you screwed into frame/trim) are properly even & aligned. If your mounting brackets are properly aligned...try connecting them all at same time...meaning don’t connect left side first, then middle, & so on. This may help. If that does not work, try connecting the blind to the center bracket first and then the left and right as you can. Hope this helps! Keep us posted! thanks for the video it helped....however, I still had a major problem with installing the blinds.... I got the home depot special 9.99 blinds and it seems a little different to install...I guess I thought the post was to be outside the rail, however, both posts have to be inside the rail....so I put them inside and over the top...1 first however I needed a screwdriver to push the other one down and inside the rail...once I did that then I was able to hear the click. thanks again for the video.

Thank you very much your video has helped a lot! The box of the 31" cordless mini blinds I bought didn't come with instructions and being the first time ever using cordless mini blinds(only kind the Walmart had) I was extremely confused on how to install the hooks. I got it set up quickly :) I guess the only thing is I don't know how to take them off if I ever need to change them lol xD
Tracey Hernandez Thanks for watching Tracy, we appreciate it. We are happy to hear the video helped! We love these blinds. To take the blinds off, you will unclip blinds from connection tabs...3 total in our case. Hope this helps! Hung these blinds about a year ago. Got board tonight and decided to shorten them. In trying to get the string back thru that little hole on the bottom rail ...I let go and lost the cord. Any suggestions?
