18k that is absolutely insane. I did a kitchen for a family with rta cabinets that take about 5-6mins to assemble a wall and 10-15 to assemble a base. It was a big kitchen with a 6ft island but the drawers are made with dovetail joints and the shells are high grade plywood. But they only spent about 3.4k on the cabinets. Just a little more than what they would have spent on hd or lowes brand

I get amused by you guys..and gals that leave comments to make yourselves sound like you were, "born with a hammer in your hand". There isn't one thing you know that you didn't learn from somebody else, or hard experience like the rest. I have learned...and continue to learn from everybody. But this attitude that I, ....."know it all" .... or trying to make it sound like you are God's gift makes me wonder why you are watching the channel in the first place if you obviously know everything already.

$18k is a pretty fair price for what they have. If they were custom cabinets, that size kitchen would be 25-30K easily. Where all the money was spent was in the hardware. That pullout wire rack system in the one blind cabinet is $750 -$900 price range. The half lazy susan in the other blind is $500, the double garbage is another $400, depending on the brand of undermount track used each track pair is about $30. Plus self closing hinges and wood drawers, these cheap cabinets have all the upgrades pretty much. So it all adds up quick.

Agree 100% Let him bend your ear. It seems like a waste of money to me for those cabinets. 18yrs ago, I redid my kitchen with what were the cheapest from Home Depot and they are also white and have much nicer, more detailed fronts than those by far but the boxes are not even close. I don't really care about the box as long as they stay together and they have. Nice work !

Consider not using wood shims under cabinets. If there is a leak they get mushy and heavy granite counter sinks. Also they are tapered so you are only bearing on a single point unless you use two opposing. Try scraps of different thicknesses of vinyl flooring that you save from other jobs. save old 2 inch vinyl blinds slats. they are 3/32 thick. maybe you plan to replace them after you are all done screwing cabinets together. just throwing this out there to see if others have different ideas.
@TheHandyman1
@TheHandyman1 5 лет назад
If there is a leak they are fucked because the hardwood floor will get destroyed and all the cabinets will be taken out to repair it.

In the UK the majority of base cabinets come on high density plastic adjustable legs. The bottom is then covered by a continuous plinth that is that is the scribed to floor. A lot easier than using shims.
@grad4394
@grad4394 5 лет назад
You need a countersink and preedrill combo bit, that way the screws in the back are able to be covered with the sticky tabs to cover the screws. I also take that same pole you are using to prop up the uppers and extend it to the ceiling, then mount my line laser to is so I never have to touch a level , set it to your height you've determined for your bases, so much easier and faster than a fiddeling with a level. I just installed a kitchen where the cabinets alone were 30,000 and they were melamine carcasses with solid wood painted doors and built worse than those. I had to hold my tongue when the designer was telling me how great she thought they were.

@grad4394
@grad4394 5 лет назад
@@DoseofTruth They're tacky if you put the wrong colored ones in for sure, you can paint them with the touch up paint that comes with the cabinets and they disappear, or get wood grain ones. I don't mind seeing screws if they are countersunk and measured in perfectly, I have even spray painted the screws to match, or with wood carcasses painted them black. I'm anal about stupid shit sometimes though, happens when you're staring at your work all day from 12 inches away lol

I’ve set so many different brands of cabinets. Did some today. The thing is that it relies on the poor new guy assembling the cabinets at any shop. They can have the best design. Amazing details. Great features. But if that new guy is assembling them out of square you get screwed. Same goes for the framers. Ever seen a plumb wall? The only flat and plumb walls I’ve ever worked with were ones I’d framed myself. Lately I get “rough framers”. When I frame I frame thinking of cabinets and the finish. Doesn’t seem to be the norm. It seems like “I don’t get paid to plane studs flat, or to plumb walls” is the norm.

Handyman, you should get a laser on a tripod. I exclusively use mine for all things level/plumb/straight. It does not lie. They are really handy to check the room for high point and for actually leveling the cabinets. Something to keep in mind when you are setting base cabinets for granite next time when you notice the boxes deviate from the face frames; the top of the ff is the most important to keep strait/level. The counter guys can and will shim the side against the wall 1/16" to 1/32" if needed. It's not ideal, but its better than being wrong the other way. Also, unrelated to this video, what are your views on clients offering food or beverages, or anything else really? Personally, I would like to keep the relationship professional, but have a hard time doing that when they offer things like that. I know the logical answer is to just smile, accept it graciously and forget about it. My problem is that I can't forget about it. What are your thoughts?

I built and set cabinets for years and I always told people that if you have beautiful doors, drawer fronts and tops, you have beautiful cabinets because that’s what you’re seeing 90% of the time. It’s embarrassing sometimes to give a price on a set of cabinets because people don’t understand the cost of quality wood, drawer runners, hinges, paint, painting equipment and craftsmanship.

What's with the fast forward in your videos. Can't learn from that. There was no resolution explained to the issue you came across.

Handyman you are a carpenter! What wasted space in that corner near the window. What type of screws did you use to mount and connect the cabinets together. I have seen so many ideas on it. Thanks for posting.

Why donu remove the foot pegs from under the cabinets? Wouldn't it be safer of water damage to leave them on and create a gap for water?

Kitchen designer wasted corner space on bottom. I liked what you took out better than the white ones. Hope you are enjoying Hawaii
