I'm going to attempt to replace the left side of my Stern Iron Maiden pinball machines back box decal. I'm going to try and do it without taking the back box off. I'll be doing it by myself so I plan on taping and using pistol clamps where I can. I'll have to be extra careful, because the decal doesn't require trimming, since that's the way they're made. I don't know if I'll be using the wet method until I see how the back box was previously prepared and what kind of wood was used. I'll probably email Stern and ask them what kind of wood was used to make the back box. Thanks for making this excellent video!

Nice job!.. as painful as it was to watch as pro graphics installer lol. Another big con to add to the wet method is some vinyl is backed with latex based adhesives that will dissolve with water. Your best bet for any first time/novice install is to order your artwork on material with "air egress"... no more bubbles!. When applying, move your squeegee left to right on an angle (like a road grater or snow plow) and overlap each pass about 60%. To protect your corners you can butt seam and then apply a strip of laminate (clear vinyl) there is also a "seal-it" pen that is just a clear paint marker that you can apply over the edges so they stay put and lastly you can overlap the print for a seamless visual. One last thing to mention is "calendared" vinyl will shrink over time ( the cheaper or thicker, the more it shrinks) and "cast" vinyl is more dimensionally stable and shrinks very little or not at all in most indoor applications. Hope this helps some :-) Great video series on the VP... subscribed!

Thanks! Yeah I took my sweet time and it turned out perfect, I'm very happy with how it turned out. There's definitely lots of info for vinyl application and even more that I didn't cover in the video. Air egress is pretty awesome stuff! I used a thicker vinyl than normal but it worked out ok. Nice to see you again for another great video! My car is 2000 Ford Taurus SE OHV. I need to turn the engine to TDC in order to replace Camshaft Synchronizer. When I turn the crankshaft, which direction I should turn? Also do I need to first disconnect negative battery and put the car in neutral position? If that is the case, how can I put the car in neutral while the battery cable is removed? Thank you!
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 8 месяцев назад
I would do your research in advance for your specific car but you should be able to leave it in park. Usually you spin the crank clockwise with spark plugs out to make it easier. Good luck!
@ask43242flight
@ask43242flight 8 месяцев назад
@@wayofthewrench Hello, I have found the issue of the squeaking noise for my taurus. It is the cam synchronizer which only generates noise under load so I cannot hear the noise when the car is in idle. Thank you!

Looks great! Are you using an air release vinyl here, or something more general purpose?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 8 месяцев назад
Ya know I don't know for sure but I don't think it is. It was a bit thicker than I'm used to but as you saw, it laid down beautifully. If yours isn't air release, you can just pop a tiny hole with a pin and squeegee out the trapped bubble. I did that on a few spots. Thanks for the watch!

I'm thinking of using vinyl car wrap on my cab,budget wise it makes sense for me (plus their are so many exciting colours to choose from),is this basically the same stuff you used?,I'd like your opinion, as I have never used vinyl before.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 месяца назад
For the most part, yes it is similar stuff. I used a carbon fibre vivid auto vinyl on my arcade cabinet and it's still looking amazing. Be careful though as the cost will add up and you might have been able to just buy pinball vinyl. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch!
