How to install roof rack on cargo trailer DIY for kayak and paddleboard camping/ overlanding

This is a roof rack I installed that I got from a local pick-a-part for $35. I pulled it off a suburban and the holes just happened to line up with the metal frames on the trailer, which helped make this a smooth and easy install. Not too much involved in the process. Hope you guys enjoy the footage and it gives you ideas for your projects! Let me know if you have any questions with this process. Take care and happy camping!

Love that set up I just did some roof racking myself , a bit of an adjustable system to accommodate for my roof basket...... plan is to incorporate the roof basket to accommodate 2 kayaks

Sounds like a great idea. I need to get some ladders on the sides because it was an actual pain to get the tandem kayak up there haha.

@@makeitworkdiy3768 I myself had trouble as well my kayaks a two tear deck helped me out with that as well but a ladder in the side is definitely on the to do list I also mounted my spare tire on the outside to give it a more off road look and conserve space inside the trailer and also I was thinking of adding a step to the tire itself and use the fender as the first step .......just trying to make everything multi functional

@@thelocatorsoutdoors3479 I'll have to check out the way you mount the spare. I need to do that. Right now it is just sitting inside while we travel, but I need a permanent spot for it. Yes, multifunctional is the KEY :)

Good move! Works perfect:) I’m gonna be doing the same with a camper shell on my truck. Did you add any support or washers when you drilled through? Or just a bolt through the fiberglass?

@@makeitworkdiy3768 I drilled through the fiberglass. Lock bytes and large washers with a lot of clear silicone. So far so good. Next is an 8ft roof rack from Amazon

Suggestion.... to those that want to do this.. You can take ( takes a second set of hands to do this.. ) carry the rack inside and use it to mark off all your holes.. hold the rack in place, mark the spot / four corners and hold rack up to make sure you drill it perfectly to the holes.. keep your bit straight that is super important.. before mounting.. fill all holes with clear sealant ... rubber sealant water proof heat resistant cold resistant sealant.. then put in your hardware.. while the sealant is still soft and let it set to cure..You can also use butyl tape as well.. that I what I use on everything that I want to be water tight..

It’s just sound on the original audio track. Not sure it has a name.

Thanks for the input Jerry. I tried to look at your content for better music ideas, but didn’t find anything. I’ll check back another time.
