Dude!! This is probably the BEST "how to - I think" video i've ever watched. Not being a mechanic or handyman and showing your struggles along the was makes me feel so much better about attempting to do this myself. I was sure I was going to pay someone, and I might still end up there, but now I'm going to try to do it my self. Thank you so much for being real and explaining everything so well. you have a new fan and subscriber
You're Welcome! I hope to do more upgrades to the truck in the near future and will update on this one once I have the wiring installed by a professional (I always leave electrical to the professionals lol).
Yeah, it took me a couple of hours cutting just a little bit at a time. I had to cut a lot if plastic out the air dam. I got to see the active air damage pretty close up though. Thanks again. Keep on trucking.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video, i got an AVT Bull Bar for my 2020 Ram Laramie Black edition, the instructions really suck as do the photos and seems none of the bull bar suppliers take the time to show the whole process. Your video helped a great deal as the mountings for the RC and the AVT bull bar are pretty much the same. at 73 years old I know the air dam spoilers gonna be a pain and like you without a proper garage lift getting under the front is tough, but a lot less tough than for a youngster like you. Be interested to know if your AC system sucks, here in Florida its just pretty crap on these Rams this is my third and all have been the same
@philipdinnis I wound up selling the truck after about 3 years of ownership, after buying it new... it was a wonderful truck and I miss it in some ways, but I had the dreaded hemi tick issue a few times (once due to lifters, then twice after for the manifold bolts) and the warranty was running out. The monthly payments wound up being too much too. I don't remember having an issue with the AC though, so you might want to check out the system. Glad I could help, enjoy your Ram!
Don't sell yourself short. You did good. This video helped me a lot. The pictures were much clearer than in my instructions. I have a different brand of Bull Bar, but the mounting brackets and general shape is the same. I think you could easily put the splash shield back on as well if you chose to. Again thanks for the video, it really was one of the better ones that I watched.
Thanks for your kind words! I could put the air dam back under the front bumper, but i would need to cut out sections for the bull bar. Id rather not have it on anyway, the less plastic the better IMO.
Sorry about that 🤷♂️ to be honest I still haven't hooked them up and need to contact rough country because they have moisture in them now... so I'll make a new video once I get a replacement to install and wire in.
For the lights I would put in a relay, wire the new light to the battery with fuse, have the relay energize when full beam comes on full beam comes on. alternatively if you want to switch the new light on individually, get one of those remote switches for inside and wire to the part that goes in the engine bay, otherwise you'll have all the hassle of getting through the firewall.
Did your truck have an automatic lower air dampener if so how did you get the bracket installed with that? I’m having issues not with a rough country but it’s similar brand for my ram where the automatic dampener would interfere with the current brackets
When you are saying dampener, are you referring to the automatic wind deflector that deploys at speed? If so, it's not an issue with the Rough Country bull bar. I'm not familiar with the other options but this one only mounts towards the front and no brackets even get close to the moving parts. more importantly, did you remove the stationary plastic wind deflector that's mounted directly to the bottom edge of the bumper? In my case it wouldn't have been possible to mount anything without taking that off, and it reaches back VERY close to the automatic wind deflector...
Unfortunately I never got around to hooking it up, i desperately need to though lol. I've had RC lights in the past and have always been happy with them. When I send power to it I'll update in a separate video and link it in the comments here
It does. I just bought one for my 2018 Ram 1500 yesterday and I asked the person why he didn’t install it and he said it would interfere with his sensors
Bro I was nervous about your watch lmao. Take it off next time. Nothing sucks worse then doing awesome stuff and scratching your awesome watch. Just in case lmao.
Haha i get ya, i beat the hell out of this watch and haven't had any problems yet! But now that I say that.... 🤔 i probably just jinxed myself and should take it off from now on 🙃😂
Lock washers go on the nut side not the bolt end. If you can’t do the whole job you probably shouldn’t be doing it at all. Secondly a bull bar on a Laramie is just ridiculous
As I said in another comment, my truck doesn't have sensors so I can't answer that for certain. It seems that it may interfere with the front facing sensor though, based on what I've heard from others. Good luck with your project! 👍
Most bull bars will interfere with front parking sensors, you should be able to disengage the sensor. My 2021 Ram has a switch to turn them off. I never use them because they are so sensitive.
