I added time stamps for convenience if you already completed some of the steps required. Check the chapters flagged IMPORTANT as those should not be skipped One thing I missed is that you can't use Microsoft Office 365 apps in the virtual machine or else it'll break your SolidWorks application for some reason. You can use those apps in MacOS anyways so this shouldn't matter too much.
@@xyzgnomon I tried to download excel through office 365 apps since I didn't want to use the cloud version, but came across the weird bug where SolidWorks didn't launch anymore. The only fix was to do a fresh install so if you want to use excel you would have to import the file from either the web version or from MacOS. Sadly everything isn't supported.
Hello Ser I tried to follow your instructions and installed Solidworks but after I start the App the load screen appears for a few seconds and then just disappears. I already installed office 365 and Excel (I need it specificly und paralles cause else VBA wont work) do you think it could be caused by Excel and do you have any solutions maybe?@@Everyview
I managed to fix it. In the windows event manager I saw that the crash was related to some DLL which I downloaded manually and now it works even together with excel :) @@Everyview
Amazing on my M1 Max 64Go !!! so smooth ! just be careful to write exactly the same the registry keys (I forgot a "s" to "Workarounds" and it didn't work firstly ^^)
i tried doing this on my M3 macbook pro, and it said "wrong version, disc, or incomplete source. Locate SOIDWORKS 2022 SPO3.1 (insert disc 1 if you have a DVD) and try again." any thoughts on how to fix this
Have you tried VMWare Fusion? How does the performance compare? I know when Apple first moved to the M-series of chips VMWare was really slow, but I've heard they've gotten much better, including implementing hardware graphics acceleration. I've installed and gotten Solidworks working on VMWare Fusion as it's free but I can't compare it to Parallels.
I don’t use parallels and solidworks when I’m unplugged so I can’t really give a good estimate. I would assume relatively low as you’re running a heavy program through emulation
@@Everyviewthat’s what I would assume. Right now i have a Lenovo p1 gen 5 that gets about two hours on low battery mode the good thing is the possibility of plugging it in for cad work.
I don’t have any other references for performance but my best guess is any of the m1 or m2 pro models and better or the new m3 baseline should be able to handle it just fine?
@@Everyview what are you currently using and how is it holding in so far? Is your modelling complex i.e. intricate designs, assemblies and sub-assemblies, simulations and rendering. Thanks
@@adityapalle I have an M2 Pro but I’m not doing any complicated assemblies as of yet. I do have a friend who’s using this for projects and seems to not have any trouble handling simple projects.
In the 2024 edition the product of Electrical is already disabled but CAM is not. Should I disable it or keep it? In case that API restriction has been changed.
Hello, I want to ask you, how does the MacBook Pro work for the mechanical engineering major? Does it work well? I will start studying at university soon, majoring in mechanical engineering. I am an Apple fan and I plan to buy a MacBook Pro with an M2 processor for studying. I am very afraid that I will buy it and regret it in the future.
@@Hamad-ui7uw Sorry mate, I haven’t started just yet. From what I have researched a lot of programs such as SolidWorks does not work natively shown in this video. I’d suggest to look at the software that will be used in your course. A lot of universities show specifically which software is used, and you can make a list which can work natively, which would need editing, and ones that will not work at all.
After the downloading solid works installation manager says “wrong version, disc or incomplete source locate SOLIDWORKS 2023 SPO3 but when i locate it same problem pops up any suggestions??
@@Everyview Sir, actually, I need to run SolidWorks software, but it is designed only for Windows and Intel/AMD processors. My question is, will this software run on a Mac with an ARM processor? Is Parallel software free on Mac?
Can you double check what version of solidworks you’re installing? If you’re downloading 2022-2023 I can refer you to another tutorial this one’s for the new 2023-2024 version
Sorry it took a bit they updated their documentation to show the same method I was using so you might have to run it through the WaybackMachine machow2.com/run-solidworks-mac/
For SolidWorks 2022 student edition, on an M3 Mac using Parallels 18, I was able to get it to work this way. When opening Registry Editor, navigate instead to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER, then Software, then SolidWorks, Solidworks 2022, Performance, Graphics, Hardware, Current
Great job. You anticipated a lot of little stuff that others might gloss over. Thank you. Of course Solidworks has to be the one indispensable application that demands Windows... I guess Parallels is going to have to be added to the list of subscriptions bleeding me dry. Eventually I'll be paying a monthly fee to enable my display, I'm sure. The leeching is starting to get on my nerves.
I’ll let you know that there is also a one time purchase option for parallels if you want to just keep the current version as is. You won’t get the new version unless you’re a part of the subscription but it won’t expire as far as I know. Also glad you liked the video!
Hi dude, I followed every step of the tutorial and you saved me lol. I was starting to give up on installing solidworks. One question though, after the installation, can i re-enable synced folders between parallels and mac?
Thanks a lot for that very usefull video, just don't forget that if you want to make it work well, NO office running on your windows cession, the visual C+++ of Office make Solidworks don't work.
Brother can i download solidworks on any ipad either ipad9 or ipad10 or ipad air 4 generation ? Or Is it available on any ipad. please reply bcoz i want to buy an ipad for solidworks. Amd catia software. ♥️♥️♥️
At the time of writing this there is no SolidWorks for any iPad and I doubt there will ever be. Better alternative for iPad is Shapr3D or something like OneShape. I personally run Shapr3D and it’s flawless on my iPad Pro (M1) variant base model but upgraded to 256GB storage.
Been running Solidworks on my 16gb M2 Macbook air using parallels since July. It works good. Sometimes it can get laggy. but overall usable at least if you're in college. Going to try this workaround and see if it boosts performance. Thanks!
I got roughly a 2.3x performance boost with the workarounds so hopefully you get something similar! I do also have an m2 pro but most of it is CPU anyways so you should find fairly similar improvements
hello, I have a 16gb M1 Macbook air and was wondering if you ever needed to use the amazon virtual computer to run solidworks. Is buying parallels worth it, or do they run about the same?
@@gabriellaaclan9900 I’ve never used the Amazon cloud thing before but in my experience it’s always nicer to be able to run things locally. Especially cause you can work offline and not worry about latency
I wish I could donate! Thank you! I'm super keen to know if that benchmark score translates to great real world performance for large assemblies and dynamic simulations. And can similar thing can be done for Inventor?
@@tariq-ally No matter how many workarounds we do it’s still not running natively on the Mac so I wouldn’t say it translates to great real world performance but is definitely workable to a degree. If you can find some benchmarks for other windows devices you can see that the scores I get are honestly not that great, but from what I’m seeing in my comments it seems to be good enough for University and small scale projects. As for inventor I haven’t tried it out and don’t know of any workarounds. Best way to help out is by using my affiliate link! (small channels don’t seem to have built in donate functionality) Thanks!
Well i have now the M3 pro and have on the Benchmark 170s for the graph. Without doing anytthing for the performance. It runs really good, NX also runs superb with more than 1000 Parts in an assembly.
Thank you so much Everyview for this brilliant guide. I had been trying to install solid works using parallels for two days but was failing. Thank you for pointing out the correct settings to choose while installation, I wonder how you discovered them in the first place. Also, usually there is an option Thank by donating to RU-vid channels; consider turning on that option for your useful channel. Thanks!
Hi, what do I do if I get a “Locate installation files for SOLIdWORKS 2023 SP02.1(insert dic 1 if you have a DVD)” pop up where it wants me to put in a location? I keep looking for the file they want but it says it’s wrong
This was happening to me and it was becuase I had SolidWorks downloading into my mac downloads folder, which Solidworks couldnt indentify. I would make sure you are downloading your files into the downloads folder in Parallels.
You are an absolute G man! I have the M3 max 16/40, and having full graphics support on SW looks amazing. I do have a question, considering the Mac primarily uses 64-bit applications, why are we using 32-bit here?
Hey mate!! I'm planning on getting an M3 Max 16/40 as well. May I ask what your benchmark scores were? If you don't have those numbers may I ask what your real world experience is like with large assemblies and dynamic simulation? And is 64GB RAM enough or should I go for 128? SORRY FOR BOMBARDING YOU 🙏 You're the first M3 Max person I've come across using Solidworks.
My MacBook Pro M2 Pro works better with the value 4140048 with large assembly units in Solidworks 2022 SP5. I ask the author to check this value for himself. Perhaps there is an even better value, if so, I would like to know it.
Hi Everview. installing solidworkds 2024 or 2023 i get the same issue just wehn it has download it, ask to insatall and after clikcing install, a window pups up saying " Wrong version, disc, or incomplete source. Locate SOLIDWORKDS 2023 sp02 (insert disc 1 if you have a dvd), and try again. Any suggestions? i dont know how to make it go further than that.
Great video, SW is running fine for me on an M1 Pro. Only issue I currently have is my mouse (Logitech) doesn't allow rotation with the middle button, and zooms very fast. Be cool if anyone knows how to resolve that?
thanks for the video it is really helpful and clear ! But I have a problème when installing the second time (it refers to 7:35), my computer say that is not the good version or the good place, and then I found the right place but it still doesn’t work… Can you help me please ?
Thank you so much for this! Followed step by step and it worked However I don't seem to have AllowList under solidworks in the registry, do you have any idea why this may be? I would love to improve the performance even more, although I am quite surprised how well the base M1 pro 16 is handling things so far...
I run Solidworks with parallels on an old mid 2010 iMac i5. I use sw electrical and it works fine. You need the sql db. Not sure if it’s an issue with a silicon Mac? I’ll be getting a new Mac mini in future. I assume better to wait for the M3 when it comes out?
Hi thanks so much, I'm looking to get one of these for college as I hate windows laptops (but love for desktop.. oh well) What are your specs in this vid? Sorry if you mentioned
Hi, i just purchased parallels desktop and when i try to install solidworks, i struggle with two error messages when I get to the installation after clicking the "install" button: first one is an issue with the location of solidworks and the second message after re-launching the install program notifies me of the incompatibility of solidworks with windows XP. It's kind of strange cauz i installed the last version of parallels which is supposed to be windows 11... if you don't mind answering me it would help a lot!!
I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t work. I would try the trial version of parallels before you buy it just to see if this is enough performance for you
bro it's just perfect👌 thank you❤ and i have a question i'm Industrial engineer student and i need solidworks sometimes it can run on my macbook air m1 8gb ?
Hello Kevin, I followed the steps you mentioned, but the realview option did not work for me in SolidWorks 2023 SP5.0 on new MacBook Pro M3 Max with 128GB Ram
A different version of solidworks might have it under a different section. Try looking at every drop down to see if there’s anything with the same content as the one shown in my video

Thanks for a very helpful video. However, I still have an issue. After the installation process (of the Maker edition of Solidworks), the "splash screen" appears along with the text Loading registry. Then it just disappears and nothing more happens. I've looked through the logs and it seems to be looking for something in the registry that it cannot find. Any idea on what I can do to troubleshoot? I run it on a MacBook Pro M1 with Parallels Desktop 19 Pro and Windows 11.
Worked on my intel Mac! Changed the register as you said except for vendor cause already exist the file, I just changed the hexadecimal value to the one you said and it worked! Thank you!
@@technovoregamers7089 Cause you can use all the shortcuts you normally use on mac using parallels. If you use bootcamp you are limited to Windows shortcuts and I'm so used to Mac cause their shortcuts are better.
