How to Install Steam Games on SD Card -Install Steam External Hard Drive

If you play Steam on your laptop, at some point, you might need more space to download more games, especially if you have a laptop with a small hard drive. My Acer Switch 10 only has 32GB of built-in memory which is really easy to fill up. But I can use a SD card to install and play my games on. And with any game installed, all in-app purchases or DLCs will also be saved to the SD card.
Once the game is downloaded, you can start playing your game knowing that you aren’t filling up your main hard drive anymore! One last thing, game performance may vary depending on the configuration of your computer but you can easily try it out if you have an extra SD card lying around.

You have no idea how helpful this is, having a 256 GB laptop is quite frustrating when you have a steam library that worth over 300 GB of memories, not include games outside of steam as well, what the point of owning all those games if I don't have access to them? well- now I do, all I need is to get a 1 TB thumb drive or SD card.

Check to see if your SD card is actually mounted on the computer. Are you able to see it in Windows Explorer? If not it might not be formatted properly or it could be write protected. Hopefully you get it working soon!

Hello im having some issues. When i try to download mkxl game my sd card always disconnects its really strange because when im not downloading anything my sd card works normally and doesnt disconnect i tried everything formatting it renaming it to a different letter but it just doesnt want to work.

I have a laptop with onlh 128GB for space. Command and Conquer remastered is around 25 gigs. So ill try this so I can play it on my laptop which is happier flying on airplanes than my ITX system(which isnt a a slouch Ryzen 7 5800X, 32gb ram, RTX 3070) But its too much of a gamble getting bumped around every time it gets a little turblance

I bought a Lexar Play micro sd intended for the nintendo switch and it allocates disk space forever. Do you have to format the card with a specific file system? The only way I can play games off sd is to move games from my hdd to the sd card

Hi, I'm getting a messsage that drive needs NTFS file system and therefore can't run on FAT32 file system. Any ideas?

I think it needs to be formatted to NTFS because the FAT32 format has file size limits. I'm sure the game files are larger than what FAT32 can accommodate. If you can move your data to another drive you can format your FAT32 drive to NTFS then move your data back to this drive.

Hi, I'm using an Acer C738T series chromebook with a 7.5 GB USB Drive plugged in, layout is a bit different on here then what is shown so I'm a bit confused, I made a new folder on the drive, but don't see it on the dropdown menu, please help :P
