This is a concise and revised version of how to install Steam into Batocera. With the final version of Batocera 32, installing Flatpak applications is now much easier. Therefore, an updated version of my original tutorial was needed.

Hey man, once steam had installed, I got an error saying “The unofficial Steam Flatpak app requires a working D-bus session bus and flatpak-portal service.” What can I do?

Thanks! Now, I'm working on getting Epic Games Launcher to work in Batocera. That will open up more games for us to play in Batocera. I know that I'm biased, but Batocera is just awesome!

No matter what version of batocera I've used, I still can't get that flatpak app to work, only goes black. I've even tried multiple fresh installs, no luck

I realize that some graphic cards doesn't work to install the flatpacks (steam). Block you Nvidia card in boot, and try. I did that and flatpack works.

I recommend sticking with the newer proton versions, even proton experimental as these versions are the most performant and compatible ones even with newer games.

But they don't work with this version of Flatpak Steam. If it was pure Linux Steam, it would definitely work better. Indeed, I've tried many games with the later version of proton but had no luck with Flatpak Batocera.

Disable your Nvidia/amd gpu in your batocera config then install steam then re-enable the gpu it's some weird bug.

Once I clicked on steam to install, I received an error: “steam input devices used rules don’t seem to be installed.” I can’t back out or accept with mouse, keyboard, or mouse. Any troubleshooting tips?

Proton currently doesn't work with Proton 5.13 and above. Be sure to use 5.0 or below for games.

You should start working on port Batocera to Arch linux base system lot more steam game work and emulators games will run better Batocera 33/34 Community will help with that if need.

There are 2 problems I’m having. First none of my controllers are being detected in steam. I’ve tried a switch pro controller and a ps4 controller both a wired connection and neither of them were detected in steam but worked great in batocera and all emulators. Next I don’t know how to scrape the steam games. It doesn’t show up in the list of consoles to scrape and nothing shows up when I try to manually scrape them either.

The sf5 looked a little slow in the video, was that just from video capture or is it a LITTLE slower but still playable using batocera Steam?

It depends upon your system. I was playing that on a mobile AMD 4500u chip. On a desktop PC with a graphics card, it should play extremely well.

@@BatoceraNation What sort of framerate would you get with the ASRock 4X4 BOX-4800U? Also did you try lower graphics setting to get a 60fps? I'm keen to upgrade to one this Xmas really want to play SFV on my batocera system.

Hello, excellent video, I wanted to see what are the best video cards compatible with Vulkan to take better advantage of Batocera? I have an HD 5850 but it works only with OpenGL and I feel that I am not getting the best out of the PC

Anything within the last 3 generations should work well for Vulkan for those emulators that support it.

Don't mean to be snotty, and I know you can't put out a new video every time steam gets updated. However, I'm trying to force (xbox series) gamepad to 'Bang! Bang! Totally Accurate Redneck Simulation', but following this tutorial, I have no idea what you did in between 20:16 - 20:18, the video simply shows a wipe effect. So, I have no idea how to enable 'Controller Applications - Forced On'. I assume from the video you are in 'Big Picture' mode, but I haven't found the ' Force On' setting anywhere. Perhaps it is located in a sub-menu I haven't found yet, or has changed names. Maybe somebody can help me out, or maybe the aforementioned game simply refuses to be tamed by a simple gamepad. Thanks for the tutorials anyway :)

Still waiting on a reply for help. I have the STEAM folder on my Batocera. But cant get ANY steam games on it. I have the Flatpak config on it too. But cant get any applications on that either....😢

Applications didn't appear for me.... Well, it did, but had nothing inside. and the settings menu was different too. (Bato36) I did manage to install steam from the flat pack menu tho.

The application keeps crashing after every 30 seconds from launching. I tried adjusting the Batocera config file for Nvidia drivers, problem persists. I tried testing a different flatpak app, had no issues with it. I even tried reinstalling the app, made no difference. I have also disabled V-Sync from the developer options. What else could be the issue? On a side note, when I removed applications from the Ports group, it creates a new group called Flatpak, instead of Applications.

@@reapertown9267 Well, this sucks because I've been trying to set up Batocera on my laptop and I can't install my Steam library because of constant crashes. So I gave up for the time being and turned to my GOG collection through the new Lutris app.

@@silvianurgaaftani125 I don't know what you're trying to say by your Engrish, but I doubt it'll be of any good use. What do you mean by different hardware exactly? I can't just use a different computer and I can't change the internal hardware when I'm using a laptop.

Can you add a custom proton (Proton GE) in batocera? , hmm maybe fsr it may work and add some extra fps 😁

No. It can't be added.

You can add Proton-GE, but it currently doesn’t work with flatpak because it’s bigger than version 5.13

I` manage to install and play some games that I was playing on my pc...but when I tried to play them on batocera, its saves did not be loaded as well...opened as a fresh game....is it possible the steam app does not Sync my saves between the devices?

I installed steam and opened the first time, then I couldn't open steam anymore, the screen just kept doing nothing, I rebooted many times and in some it worked and in others it did not. Check the option to change the permissions of the folders (pressing F1) inside / but I get a message that you do not have permissions to modify the folders, help pls

Street Fighter was running really slow there, you need to turn down your graphics settings to speed it up, it looked close to half speed.

I can get flatpak config to load, and I'm connected to wifi, but it doesn't seem to be able to pull up any apps. It acts like it's searching for suggestions or when it will let me type, but Steam or anything else doesn't come up. In latest stable Batocera.

That's unusual. That requires a developer input (I'm not one of developers) Can you visit their Discord channel and post your problem. My only suggestion is to update it to Beta 33 and see if it works.

I successfully installed steam however it says no controller detected when my ps4 controller is connected to my batocera machine, the controller works fine when not in steam but steam does not detect the controller?

That's a tough one. Most controller trouble have come from PS controllers. I don't know of any solution, but please post your problem in the official Batocera Discord channel. Someone there might have found a solution.

Steam appeared to have installed and updated properly, but it won't let me log on as my valid user. I triple checked the password and verified by signing onto the steam phone app. Also shouldn't repeated attempts to logon at least generate an email from Steam? I have received nothing. I am running Batocera off of a external USB SSD attached to my main rig. I don't have Steamguard enabled, should I?

This is a known problem. This is not a Batocera or Flatpak issue. Steam updated their Steam Client in late September and since then, it is no longer working. They haven't fixed it even though they are aware of it. I believe that they did this intentionally so that people would adopt SteamOS instead.

Did the first part with flat pack config and ports but did not show up in my menu about applications just separated all the ports from grouping and there's no application on the list any ideas how to fix that

Flatpak is seperate from Batocera. Flatpak apps are developed by other people. That's a question that would need to be posed to the folks who developed Steam Flatpak.

All Flatpak apps will appear inside Applications. You can't separate them from there. The only exception is Steam. That was a special case that received its own menu.

This is a current known problem. It is not a Batocera problem. Valve did something to their Steam client where it is no longer working. They have to fix it. They're aware of it and are dragging their feet. Maybe they just want gamers to adopt SteamOS. Hoping they fix it soon.

Where is the game directory it installs to? I would like to move my steam games to my other drive which has more space. Can I then create links to the roms/steam folder?

I've tried everything. I can't move it or link the games. For lots of games, you're going to need a large internal drive. This setback has nothing to do with Batocera. It has to do with the Flatpak version of Steam (which the Batoceran team has no control over).

Fantastic video! Just note that the ungrouping of the ports at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OwtfuHbE-yY.html is not necessary, Steam will simply appear in the "Ports" system.

Yes, but I like my Flatpak "Applications" separated from Ports. But yes, Steam will appear after we install games.

Hi, I did everything you said and it was working beautifully. Then out of the blue Steam wont boot and games in valve folder stop working. Any ideas?

Is Flatpak app still working? If so, uninstall the Steam app. Then go into your Steam folder in roms and delete the Steam links. Keep the scraped media. Then reboot. Reinstall Steam via Flatpak. Update your gamelist and try again.

Is Flatpak working at all? Try installing any app (i.e. Firefox). Does it install and run successfully?
