Nice video!! So i keep noticing that in every sas build, theres always something different being done with the front ifs crossmember!? Is there a video that explains what is being done with it. I have seen in some builds on your channel it is left alone yet is missing in this one.

@taylorschumm9653 so you should see the OBS playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PL02c8oGOVVEUSBTZ09gF7lLM5hrs44UVc&si=pzZG_kmKg_pAEGxW The GMT400 like yours, the forward IFS crossmember is the only crossmember at the front of the frame, all the way to the end. And it only hangs down 4.25" It doesn't hang lower than the bottom of the axle even fully stuffed. Also brake lines and other braces go across it. So cutting it off of an OBS doesn't make sense But the truck in this video is a GMT800. The forward crossmember hangs nearly 9" below the frame. And no lines or anything go across it. There is also another crossmember up closer to the bumper. So cutting it off a gmt800 makes a lot more sense

What if the truck that I want to solid axle swap is a 2wd truck

No problem, I even featured a 2wd that was swapped at the beginning of this video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BHxa-afRemg.html There are a couple of extra steps, but it's essentially the same swap

@@tahoverlandingwhat about a 2wd gmt400? Are the coil buckets that are built into the frame usable? Otherwise I think off-road design is the only way to go…

Interesting way to center the axle and springs. Without a lift, how would you suggest? Be on as flat ground as possible, make sure the rear is setting where you want, then make sure the frame is level with the ground before centering the axle?
@tahoverlanding
@tahoverlanding Год назад
You measure factory axle center line before you disassemble everything, then you mark 1-1/2"forward and then it doesn't matter how level the ground is. You can just Jack the axle all the way up to that point on the frame and build from there.

Did you add a plate to the frame before coil towers?

That's why they make adjustable coil spring mounts so it takes the guess work out of it :0
@tahoverlanding
@tahoverlanding Год назад
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, I think there are a few points you're unaware of: 1) nobody else makes a frame side coil mount (adjustable or not) for this large diameter spring. Most go up to 5-3/4" maybe 6" max. This spring is close to 7" it is a unique size (with the isolator its more like 8") 2) the "adjustable" mounts that are available use bolts drilled in 1" increments. The Tahoverlanding Axle Swap achieves infinite variability allowing the front height to be adjusted to within 1/16" or less. 3) not to mention none of the other available mounts allow for the shock to go through the coil spring, and mount above it like this axle is built for 4) no "guesswork" was demonstrated in this video. If a person actually watched the video, they would see demonstrated how to make the front precisely match the rear using measurements, and then double checking it under its own weight to be sure. *edit 5) the width of the coil spring spacing on the axle is factored and built into the Tahoverlanding mounts. The universal mounts available don't take this into account, and aren't built factoring this at all.
