Just about to buy this CPU Cooler and caught your video. Best and most thorough installation video I have seen so I liked and subbed. If all your pc building videos are like this your gonna become my go to guy as a first time builder. Thanks very much. Your help is invaluable. One vid request for future if u have not done it yet is that although the hardware installation part is not that intimidating, making sure you get your system actually up and running after putting the physical pieces together is a little intimidating so if you ever do a video on that aspect of a build it would be greatly appreciated. Its often overlooked.

I have AS Rock A320M AM4 motherboard and I hope I would be able to install it correctly. :D P.S. I don't have paste, does the paste come with the cooler?... Are there good or bad paste to buy? The cooler does come with thermal paste, but a little teeny tiny bad, I show you in this video, this is the paste I recommend in my amazon affiliate link: geni.us/xBKj, For the Asrock, it will be a little different since its AMD based, before you install it, make sure that the cooler has the AM4 brackets included, if not you have to call arctic to send it to you, its free I believe. I show you in the video how much to use as well.

In this video, it's installed with the metal backplate, but in other videos I've watched, they doesn't seem to be using the metal backplate, but I might have missed it. I have owned 3 of these and my only advice is to NOT screw the screws too tight. Once you feel it holds, it'll hold. Trust me. Too much pressure on the cpu is bad + there will be less and less paste between the cooler and the cpu.

Any update on the thermal paste application? The way Arctic recommends seems like an obscene amount that would squeeze out onto the motherboard. I'd love to see the spread
@ThisBytesForYou
@ThisBytesForYou 4 года назад
it is more than I am comfortable with, I kind of cringed having to apply so much, but it was not bad. I did however have to stop using the cooler since it was not doing very well on the 9900K, one of the hottest processors on the market, it is best to use liquid cooling on this processor and I am now, I am using the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 and it works amazingly well. As for the thermal paste, It did not spill out to the motherboard, but it did spread out a little to the retention plate, that isn't that bad. If you like, search my channel for the videos I have made with the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360, it is a beast of a cooler and more affordable than anything else.

Ive installed a couple different Arctic 34 E Sports Coolers. As long as the lines of thermal paste aren't ridiculously large, you'll be fine. None will squeeze out form the chip.

I actually enjoy this over the other installation methods of some other aftermarket coolers. This actually seems simple enough. Very good step by step video too. One thing I'll mention is that Linus Tech Tips did test thermal paste applications and generally they found that too much thermal paste didn't actually affect anything except the cleanup afterwards, too little is what actually affected temps negatively. So overapplying with a nonconductive paste won't harm anything, just the amount of paste you actually have left.
@ThisBytesForYou
@ThisBytesForYou 4 года назад
In all my testing the amount I have applied here is perfect, I used to be a product development engineer for alienware, then later dell when they bought us and finally velocity micro, in total 11 years of product development which is why I do reviews, I love it. During my testing I found that depending on the thermal paste, you can actually damage your components becuase some thermal pastes are conductive, not an ideal situation for components if they spill over which of course can cause an even bigger mess than a simple clean up. I thank you so much for you kind words my friend, they means so much to me and it's comments like these that keep me doing what I do. Thanks again my friend

Thanks for the build video - I just did this myself. I'm curious how I might judge too much thermal paste? I'm not a total noob with this stuff but seriously don't install CPUs ALL the time. I am transitioning my AORUS Z390 board from an i5-9600 with thermaltake Slim X3 (it's a very basic tiny fan and heatsink) which I had installed and working fine for months (not OC) and could Handbrake all day. I just put this Arctic eSports DUO on a brand new i9-9900K again NO OC and it shuts off after 10seconds of HandBrake. trying to figure out game plan for diagnosing.

this is not meant for a 9900K, the 9900K is a HOT CPU, very hot cpu, I recommend liquid cooling, even if you are not overclocking, I recommend the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 or a 360, you can see the 360 here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iAf3qCy3vsI.html

OK, So I was doing this in Hackintosh. Rebooting to Windows and I ran with Prime95 and it was stable, but I noticed temps getting up to 100C!! So, I started to reckon with the cooling fan situation. First corrected fan direction on the cooler to blow out(!) that helped a bit (🤦‍♂️) That got temps under load to about 85-90 until I put the case sides back on when they would again creep back up to 95. Did a few other modifications to the fans and got under load temps down to about 88. Tested this all under Mac as well as Win. Handbrake and Prime95 both work fine without crashes so far. Resting temps go all the way back down to 35 and so all of this suggests to me that the cooler is indeed installed (more or less) correctly and I basically have an airflow problem as much as anything. Investigations continue. BTW ambient temps in the room are about 15-25 (C)

I saw the video because i'm looking to put this cooler directed to top, like yours.just to check that it fits like this. Not because it wont fit on my board, but because hot air naturally goes up. and i have an termaltake s100 case that can hold an 200mm top fan at 800rpm. So i think it more efficient to pull/push hot air out...going up than in back to an 120mm fan directed to an backwall. it can even grab heat from graphic card like this :) . thanks for share.
@ThisBytesForYou
@ThisBytesForYou 3 года назад
You will grab the heat from your video card and pas it over the heatsink on the cpu, so its not efficient. Efficient would be to pull cool air from the front of the case and exhaust it directly behind it through the rear exhaust. It will still pull heat off of the video card a little and pass it through the heatsink but this way, you will also pull cool air. So very happy you enjoyed the video, but it doesn't hurt to try it both ways and see which is most efficient for you.

@@Nick-uz6cu ahhh ok AM4, I dont have an AM4 to test with but the AM4 screws the provide should screw in fine. I had a similar incident last night rebuilding my sons computer, the screw was right and I was at it for 10 minutes, but my angle was off. Attaching the fan inside of the case works, but that was my issue last night as well, taking it out of the case is the best way.

@ThisBytesForYou
@ThisBytesForYou 5 лет назад
that would be very hard for me to say, but I can say that it does amazing work and I would recommend it to anyone. It keeps the 9900K cool, as long as it is not overclocked and the 9900K is known as a heat monster, so I think you should be great. Check it out on Amazon: geni.us/B7ZO

It’s a good guide also the thermal paste arctic recommends was bad it was too much thermal paste. I had to re do it and just went with the original dot in middle.
@ThisBytesForYou
@ThisBytesForYou 2 года назад
dot in the middle is what I wanted to do (and I always do on flat surfaces), but years ago on a Noctua fan, that had the direct tubes just like this, I did the dot and the surface area was not flush causing triangular/pyramid grooves in the thermal paste, not allowing for proper contact, so I have not done it since. The method recommended by Arctic, if you apply it properly (maybe slightly less than I did) works PERFECTLY>

it is what it is my friend, when the 9900K came out, there was no competition, there is now, my time machine broke. Soon though, I will have some AMD stuff to work with as well. As a small channel, Intel won't look at me and AMD is starting to now, so I have to go where the performance was, back then, the 9900K was king and I could only afford one, since I am paying with my own money.
