For Blender v4.2, there have been changes to add-ons... once you get to the addon page, go to the top right and click on the the button with the downward pointing arrow, then click Install from Disk... everything else should be the same. If you're on a Mac, Safari likes to unzip your downloaded zip file. You'll need to zip it back up before you can install it.
Hey y'all... Blender 3.4 just dropped and it doesn't play nice with the Mecabricks importer. If you're running into issues on import, make sure you've downloaded the most current version of the Mecabricks plugin.
Sure, Go to the Preferences -> Add-ons tab and search for the plugin. Hit the triangle next to the name to expand the options for the plugin and you can click on the Remove button. Now just install the new one and you should be set.
The first thing I can think of is you need to be in the Rendered view with Cycles selected as your render engine. To get to rendered view, toggle the last option in the set of 4 circles on the top right of the 3d viewport. To switch to Cycles, click on the digital camera in the Properties editor (second tab down) and switch the Render Engine from Eevee to Cycles. If that doesn't solve your problem, let me know.
Works in Blender 3.6.1. Redownloading and installing the addon fixed my problem with the .zmbx file. The import of an .obj file though is not working. The .obj import will only render my custom texture but not the solid color material that was selected for the piece. The material is just black with my custom over it. The zmbx and obj file are the same models, but only the zmbx works and shows all the textures. Any thoughts, if not it is fine because one does work, but the other doesn't.
Hi Chris... sorry for the late comment. The obj export is not anywhere near as fleshed out as the zmbx export option. As far as I understand, the obj export replaces the brick color with the texture image. On Mecabricks, the original texture images had the part color as the background. The newer standard (which is getting quite old) is to have a transparent background for the print textures so the brick color can be changed. However, now this transparent background is being pushed into the color on the obj export and turns black. To fix this on the obj, you can modify the shader by adding an RGB node with the correct color and mixing it with the image using the alpha as the mix. Then plug that into the color slot on the BSDF.
I'm on Windows 11, and I've just installed Blender. I first had the issue where textures and printing details weren't showing up, but then I enabled rendered view. My main problem is that when I imported one of my bigger models, I was given an error message. When the model loaded into Blender, I noticed there were a lot of missing pieces. Any clue as to what the problem is?
It's making me select certain files, files I have no idea what I'm doing with, could you make a tutorial for that? I'm also on a Mac so I don't know if that makes a difference
on a Mac, Safari unzips any zip file by default. You need to manually zip up the folder you downloaded and then you should be able to install per the instructions.
I followed the instructions given up until when I try to import the files it just doesn’t work. I have a video uploaded on my channel and if you can help me I would really appreciate it.
Hi, did you get it working yet? It looks like you have the Mecabricks Lite 3.1.8 version installed in blender. That is not compatible with Blender 4.0. I would recommend going to the preferences -> add-on menu and clicking on the REMOVE button inside of the MB Lite dropdown. Then restart blender and re-install the most current version (currently 3.1.10). This should fix what you're seeing.
I didn't have any textures on my model. If you have textures on yours, you need to switch to the Rendered view and switch the render engine to Cycles. This will show the Mecabricks textures.
i downloaded it but when i try to enable it, it isnt there, im struggling to install it but it may be because im on Mac. someone please tell me what im doing wrong
Make sure that your browser didn't unzip the file for you. If the thing you downloaded doesn't end in zip then you need to tell safari to stop unzipping files you download.
Hey man im really hoping you find this. Im on MacBookAir and whenever I try putting MecaBricks to blender I open the file and theres "loaders" and whatever and when I install it and go to the search bar or scroll theres no mecabricks file on the blender its very confusing for me can you help please?
Apple has a terrible habit of unzipping zip files when you download them. You need to tell safari not to zip it or zip it back up. I found this on a web search: Control-click it, then choose Compress from the shortcut menu
What version of Blender are you using? If it's 3.4 or above, try downloading the most current version of the Mecabricks plugin. That should fix the Blender 3.4 import issue.
What won't show up? I'm not sure if I mentioned it or not in the video but DO NOT unzip the file you download. It needs to remain as a *.zip file for Blender to find it.
I searched it up on Google... it looks like it's possible to run Blender on Chrome OS, but it'll take some effort. I don't have a chromebook to test, so I'd advise you to look at "Installing Blender on Chromebook" search results and go from there.
Hey, I'm not sure if you'll see this, and I'm so sorry this is long, but I'm having trouble installing MecaBricks on my version of blender. I have Blender 3.6.2. I also, just a few minutes before writing this, got the MecaBricks add-on. What's happening is: When I go to Add-ons in blender, I click the installation button, then I find the MecaBricks folder(for some reason, I have to extract it or it doesn't appear in my installation pop-up for the add-on). I select the file and hit the "install add-on" and it'll take me deeper into he Blender Lite folder. If I click this button again, the window closes. I'll try searching for this add-on in the Add-on, but don't see it. What am I doing wrong?
Sorry this is such a late reply, but the file you download needs to remain zipped. If you use a mac, Apple has a terrible habit of unzipping zip files when you download them. You need to tell safari not to zip it or zip it back up yourself. I found this on a web search: Control-click it, then choose Compress from the shortcut menu
