Today's video will guide you through the DynaGen Relay Pack RP100 installation process.
The DynaGen TG series controller can switch multiple outputs up to one amp each. However, specific higher-power devices like the engine starter, glow plugs, fuel pump, or alternator exciter may draw more than one amp, exceeding the electronics in this device's limitations.
An optional and everyday accessory to address this issue is the DynaGen relay pack RP100. It has three relays for three outputs, with an optional fourth relay available to add another switched output. These relays are each rated at 40 amps. Depending on the type of engine battery your system uses, you can use either 12-volt relays or request a 24-volt version. The most common choice is the 12-volt version.
Now, we will demonstrate the installation of the relay pack, emphasizing that it is designed to attach securely to the controller. Once in place, it is difficult to remove without breaking its securing tabs.
When installing the relay pack, find a soft and clean surface to prevent accidental scratching of the controller. The relay pack features two tabs that fit into grooves on the DynaGen controller. Align the relay pack with the controller and use the palm of your hand to snap in one side, which is the relatively more straightforward part. For the final tab, more force is required. Again, we recommended laying the assembly on a safe surface so you can exert the necessary pressure to snap the final tab into place without scratching the front of it.
It would help if you looked down the side of the controller to see that there is no gap and that both tabs are in the correct positions.
Once attached, you can continue to the next step, hooking up your wiring harnesses, which we will show you in another video.
It often breaks when you try to pry off the relay pack using a screwdriver! It is designed to withstand heavy use, vibrations, and harsh operating conditions and NOT to come off. So, before you install yours, ensure you will not find yourself in this situation, or you may need to replace it once it is removed.
