Quick video on how easy it is to install an OhmKat wireless universal video doorbell chime when using an OhmKat power supply with your Nest, Ring, August, Skybell, Zmodo, Simplisafe or other video doorbe..
Thank-you for your video! I just got the OhmKat 24v power supply and wireless RF chime to hook up my new kuna dual doorbell. Works perfectly and I did it all myself after discovering I had no existing chime or transformer. I drilled a hole through our front fence to run the wire and pulled off one of the fence panels to hide the wiring, then plugged it in. Boom!! Easy! The electrician wanted $800.
Wonderful solution for so many of us who are now way more educated in doorbell technology than we ever thought necessary... One suggestion is to remove the OhmKat logo from the chime. Keep the company name if you must, but that logo is not something I want featured in my home. Also, consider a sound designer for the next version. The kitschy tunes are cute and nostalgic, but some modern tones with a slightly better speaker would elevate your product to be more compatible with a higher bracket of home owners.
In the 16v doorbells, there is an adapter to connect to the Nest doorbell. Is it necessary for this chime? I've noticed that the adapter somehow allows for stable WiFi connectivity to the Nest Hello. With Ohmkat, they guarantee that this stability will be maintained in case it's not necessary to use this Nest doorbell adapter
Yes, you can have as many chime receivers connected to a single transmitter as you like. It is a simple process to pair them. Additional chimes receivers are available on our website.
Just got my chime/receiver, and it works, thanks. The chime I chose doesn't stick, though, it reverts back to the first one. Is there anything else to do after cycling to the chime I want?
Our newest chimes have a slightly different ring tone process. 1. Pick the tone you like 2. Press and hold the volume button. Wait for 2 beeps. 3. While holding the volume button, press the doorbell button a couple times. You should hear one beep. 4. Release the volume button and test.
@@ohmkatinc8014 I know which one the volume button is, but can you clarify which one of the 3 buttons are the “door bell button” that needs to be pressed a couple of times to make the new chime choice stick? I keep trying & it stays on the default chime. Thanks
My transformer nearly burned my house down. Just got this system in the mail today. Hoping it to get it setup tonight. How hot does the AC adapter get? Any fire risk leaving it plugged in all the time?
That is bummer on the transformer. Ours should never cause a fire. We built in short protection and a resettable fuse that will prevent that. It should only get a little warm and not hot to the touch. It is designed to be plugged in for an extended period and never burn out. We build robust products, and trust them enough to offer a full Lifetime Warranty on everything we make.
Any way to re-pair the chime to the transmitter? Mine seems to have lost it's pairing. Holding down the volume button for 10 seconds then ringing the bell doesn't seem to do anything.
Sorry I missed this. A little crazy out there with Corona! Slight change in your instructions. Press and hold the volume button, and then immediately press the doorbell button three times. As soon as you hear the chime, release the volume button. Press the doorbell button to test. Holding the volume button for 10 seconds will wipe the pairing. Sorry for the confusion. Also, you may have to put the chime closer to the transmitter for pairing. Once paired you can move it again.
I have a chime and transformer. I want to disconnect all of that and use the Omcat wireless with my Nest Hello. Can I call the wires from the transformer and use this, or so I need to have an electrician disconnect the transformer completely?
Thanks for the question. You can use the wires to connect the OhmKat without a problem. You do want to remove the transformer however. You don't want live wire connections to be exposed and open. This is something that is not hard to do yourself if you are comfortable. With your main breaker off it should be a simple disconnect. But if you are not comfortable, having an electrician do it would be a good solution.
I found the transmitter on amazon ca, but couldn't find the reciever on there. Its on your website tho. Do you ship to Canada? And if so, how long would it take to get here?
Most people drill a hole in the wall. Alternate installations are through a door peephole. If you would like to run wire outside the door, please use small clips to hold it in place. However, having wire outside makes it easier to disable.
May I also ask, is it possible to use a single ohmkat for 2 doorbells, a front and a rear? Or would 2 transmitters be necessary? Can 2 transmitters dong on a single plug in chime? Thanks again for the help!
Video doorbells are designed to function with traditional chimes that are triggered when the doorbell is shorted. Our chime senses this short caused by the doorbell press and converts it into a wireless signal that triggers the chime receiver to ring.
There can't be a wireless connection directly from the video doorbell as they don't transmit wireless signals. We take the electric signal they do produce - a doorbell short - and convert it into a wireless signal
Absolutely! We offer them for sale on our website, ohmkat.com. Search for additional chime. If you order it with your full chime kit we will pair it for you. If you order it separately it is simple to pair. Just press the volume button and then ring the doorbell.
@@AmberAlmonte sorry I missed this. You press and hold and then immediately press the doorbell. Release the volume button. If you hold it for more than seven seconds it will reset the pairing.
You couldn't make the cables all white? Instead of having the hideous splice running down the wall? Also the chime won't stop ringing even though no one's ringing it
I assume you have a Nest Hello? We offer white power supplies as well. Sorry you are having an issue. What you are experiencing is called a "ghost chime." It happens occasionally with the Nest Hello with all types of chimes. We have found an easy fix that solves the problem about 90% of the time is full factory reset of the Nest Hello. It should take about 5 minutes. Here are the instructions: 1. Delete the Nest Hello device from your app. 2. Expose the back of the Nest Hello but leave it attached to the power wires. 3. You will see a small pinhole button on the back of the Nest. Please insert a paper clip to press this button while simultaneously pressing the doorbell button. Hold both buttons for one minute. 4. Your Nest Hello is now factory reset. Reseat the Nest on the backing and attach. Please go through the reinstall process on your app, and be sure to select chime on. Also, make sure you are not using the chime connector that comes with the Nest. Let us know if that works and if you have any other questions
