This has been a nightmare to install. I had a single flap medium PetSafe door that needed to be replaced. It was installed by door company when I purchased storm door. I thought replacing with the extreme weather would be a piece of cake….WRONG! The storm door panel is 1/16 thick. The door company had cut the previous hole smaller and drilled holes to place the door. (Took awhile of me reading directions to realize with this door the screws don’t go thread throw any part of the door.) So now what? Without a thicker door, it tightens at the bottom, but the top of the two pieces hit together long before the screws pull them to touch door so it flops back and forth. Looks like I would have to try and build a box frame to attach to my metal door so it is thick enough for this dog door.

We're so sorry for any misunderstanding about a replacement for your door, Mary! As this is a different model of door from our single flap plastic frame door, it cannot fit doors of the same thickness. We do apologize for any confusion. This door fits doors 1 5/8” to 2 ¼” thick, so you would need a thicker door or to construct a frame in order to install this door.

Can I paint the frame another color? My door is Grey and I would like it to match.

Thank you for this question! Yes, the Extreme Weather Door frame is plastic so you can certainly paint it. We would recommend using a paint which bonds well to plastic and one that performs well for both interior and exterior use.

My dogs are both too afraid to push open all the heavy flaps, can I remove a couple to help with training them? The contractor threw out our instructions I'm a bit lost as to the best way to do this. Thank you!

Hello Gabriela, thank you for reaching out with this question. Our Extreme Weather Pet Door™ is only designed to be installed into most doors 1 5/8 in - 2 1/4 in thick. However we do offer A wall entry door that can be found here - store.petsafe.net/wall-entry-pet-door

My Petsafe lets bugs and worst of all freezing cold air in the winter.in the lightest of breezes. Currently trying to winterize and add an extra flap so my dogs stay warm.

Is there a minimum thickness of door required for this? I have a single panel UPVC door, the panel looks about 25mm thick.

Thank you for asking, Keith! Yes, this door would need to be installed in a door at least 1 5/8” thick, with a maximum thickness of 2 ¼”. We do apologize for any inconvenience this causes. It is worth mentioning that our plastic pet door could be installed in your door, as it fits doors even as small as a thickness of 1/16". If I have two dogs different heights, which shoulder should I use to mar the door; the taller or shorter dog?

Thank you for asking. In cases such as this we would suggest leaning more towards the taller dogs height as it would be less stressful on your taller dogs back. However you would want to make sure your smaller dog would still be able to reach the door as comfortable as possible.

at 2:50 I find it interesting she is putting plastic screws in a door that didn't have holes drilled yet. I think you forgot a step.

We're so sorry for any misunderstanding! These screws are being placed within the cutout, and screwed into the opposite side of the frame. They do not go through separate holes in the door.

that's a thermal isolation door. What's the point of this door if you have such gaps... Sealant needs to be used while installing. Also what is the point of installing this door right under the main door knob? To make it easier for some one to open lock of main door?

Thank you for sharing these concerns, Nikolay! Though this door is insulated and greatly reduces air transfer, as it is still a hole within the door some air transfer will still be possible, even with the optional use of sealant around the frame during installation. As it is a hole within the door intended for pet use, it is also not intended to be a security device; we do apologize for any misunderstanding.
