Hey guys! John here with RealTruck.com. Today, I want to show you how to install the Add-a-leaf Kit from Zone to this 2014 Chevy Silverado.
As you can see here, our Add-a-leaf Kit from Zone Offroad Products comes with everything you need to put this on your truck. The nice thing about this is is that if you're hauling a heavy camper or trailer of some sort, and you know how most of the time you put that on the back of your truck, your truck wants to really squat down hard. Well, what this is going to do, this is going to help keep that a little bit more level and it will increase the rear lift on the truck by about an inch, inch and a half depending on the truck and depending on how much settling there is when you're not loaded. So what we got here is we have everything to get it on the truck. We have our add-a-leafs. We have our spring clamps. And we also have our center pin, bolts, and also our aluminum shim plates. So next thing we're going to do is start putting this on the truck.
The next thing we're going to do after we get the wheels off is we're going to disconnect our brake line bracket from the differential right here.
We got that loose. Next thing we're going to do is unclip our ABS line from our frame rail, do our emergency break bracket on the driver's side.
And we're also going to remove this one up here . . . take our shocks off . . . and hang on to the bolts because we'll need those to put the new shocks on. There's also one more at the top we have to take loose. Unfortunately, that one doesn't have a nut on the backside. It's built right into the bracket, so we don't have to worry about trying to hang on to that.
Once our shocks are off, then we're going to pull our U-bolts off. Now, when you get to this point, it's very important that if you're doing this up in the air, you have some kind of a jack, like we have up underneath the differential here.
And we'll take these off.
All right guys, once we have the U-bolt off, what we're going to do now is we're going to slowly let this down so that we can remove that factory block . . . as far as we want to go because we don't want to put too much pressure on our ABS line here. We'll take that new block out. Let's wipe this off a little bit, clean it up. 866-554-0581 Free shipping for orders over $100!

before you unbolt the center bolt I mark all the springs from top to bottom. then when you go back together you line up the line you made and there is no guessing. might help line the springs faster

I did this with my tacoma on the floor though. To make it much easier to put the bolt trough the springs at 6:48 insted of using clamps you can use your emergency jack. put it upside down the base towards the bottom of the frame and the part pushing towards the leaf springs while you have your other jack of jackstands holding the axel in place from the bottom. makes it much more easier. To center the hole you can also use a center punch or just a screw driver. put it trough the hole and adjust it so the pin can go it easier.

The white pads taped to the ends of the leaf springs are you supposed to install them with those on or take them off before installing ?

does it matter where you put the add-a-leaf? like above the bottom leaf or just under the top? does it depend on the model?

Did this add a leaf give the truck some rake? I was told by zone that the leaf is necessary for crew cabs to be properly level. And without it it would be front high. I'm not a fan of how it looks with the rake. Will the leaf settle into a more level stance or should I look at changing something up ?

Why does that bottom leaf not get connected/bent? Doesn’t that just make it an oversized spacer at that point? Why not use it as extra suspension force?

it actually depends on the vehicle. It can be anywhere from 1 - 2 inches. On this one it was 1 1/2 inches. On a Ford Expedition it is 2 inches. Just as an example.

***** Thanks I appreciate it. I'm trying to piece together a lift kit that would fit my specific needs and I want to do it and incorporate an add-a-leaf with it. Maybe you guys could help me with that. I went to a local truck shop here in Miami, FL. and the guy didn't really seem as if he was very helpful and wanted me to go another route but that wouldn't help with my needs, only help the lift. I want to setup my truck for my personal specifications, not just a look.

@BGCE69
@BGCE69 6 лет назад
So does that mean you don't need to re use the roll pin? Without it, will the leaf springs twist around?
@Realtruck
@Realtruck 6 лет назад
The Add-a-leaf will work with your factory leaf pack and will add to it. This will provide additional lift without allowing axle roll or stability issues.
@BGCE69
@BGCE69 6 лет назад
Yes I know, but what do you do with the roll pin at 4:47? Do you re use it? Throw it away? What...
@87gunsnroses
@87gunsnroses 6 лет назад
RealTruck.com you tiptoed around his question. Will the leaf springs be able to spin off to the side since they no longer have that pin to maintain alignment?
@pyang4155
@pyang4155 5 лет назад
You cant reuse the roll pin because the add a leaf doesnt have the hole for it. The leaves should still stay aligned because the u bolts will keep them from spinning. Most roll pins or dowels are use too keep alignment when installing seperate components together so that the actual structural securement (bolts) are easier to install.

@Realtruck

Renato Morales: For best results, it is advised that you contact the manufacturer of your leaf directly for technical support and troubleshooting.
@bounmoua2593

Will having the overload leaf removed do any damage?
@Realtruck
@Realtruck 9 лет назад
Boun Moua do you mean after installing it? If so no. If you are talking about the factory OE leaf not necessarily. It will reduce payload capacity though and if you load it like it still had them it could bend or break the other leaf springs.

I have a broken spring, can I take this broken spring off, then take the same spring off the other side then add this procedure to fix my problem, of a broken spring, if not then what to do?
@Realtruck
@Realtruck 8 лет назад
+Dave Taylor yes that is possible depending on which spring is broken. You can not do this with the top or bottom springs. Only the center ones.
@davetaylor2449
@davetaylor2449 8 лет назад
I have been trying to buy two springs to replace the one I broke, one spring for the broken one and one to change out the same spring on the other side. But have been treated like a lepper, with people telling me to got to a specialty spring shop, to buy the whole spring assembly, and of course then I would have to buy to sets at nearly 700 dollars, all this for one broken spring. I am at the end of my rope trying to find a couple of springs to put on my truck. Please any suggestions would be appreciated.
@Realtruck
@Realtruck 8 лет назад
Try a wrecking yard. You can probably get the whole spring pack for half what a new one costs. I would, however, suggest that you change both sides because the one you replace could be weaker or stronger than the one on your truck and it will cause a sagging effect on the weaker side,
@davetaylor2449

Well with my luck holding steady, my rear-end is going bad. So will have to find complete rear an spring assembly now. 63 K on my tundra now the spring broke and rear went out.

That should be able to work with your current u-bolts and will provide 1-1.5 inch lift. This will restore height and tow capacity.

+Sean Rayburn There might be one. I did a 3 inch add a leaf for a 2000 tacoma but in reality it wont give you the 3 inch lift. be carefull before you go out and buy a lift since some of those trucks have metal tube brake hoses that dont allow for that extra 3 inch lift. if you do get it then you might have to change those too which is a pita
