Thanks for the video. The problem with the spring rod not seating properly in the clip can be avoided by positioning the rod in the clip and then working the ends into position afterwards as you suggest late in the video. I took my time to do that and had no issues. In all, installing the clip and getting the rod in position took about 4 minutes and using vice grips to twist the rod end into place took about 10 seconds. I did not need any help snapping it into place but did have someone I trust hold the trunk up as I think the guys doing this job with just a board holding it up are crazy with how much it weighs and the force it comes down with when the spring is broken.

Thanks for the guide! There were two additional tips that lead to my install successful install. 1.Initially I inserted the weaker end in the wrong direction, so I was puzzled why the bar wasn't producing any resistance. But once I inserted it correct, I can see how it works and how I should apply the force with a vise grip. 2. The middle clip needs to install before hand so that the tension bar can stay in place. This can make the install easier too.

Thank you! Because I did this by myslef with your instruction! One of my Torsion Bars was broke off. So I ordered the original parts from Honda and with a little patients. I got it in in about 30 mins while holding the trunk open with one foot😂😂😂

This was awesome. Best Instructions on youtube for the clip and the bar. It works for old Acuras too. I didn't realize there was a special trick for the pliers where you insert it on the bar to get leverage and lock them (without hurting yourself). I didn't even have to get in the trunk once i realized I had the plier placement wrong initially. Thanks Man!

Just found your video, thank you so much for your explanation. My father and I was able to install the rod with your help. We also had the middle piece where the rods are held break, but we didn't feel the need to replace it. The rod still held in place. Thank you again ❤.

I was able to put this rod in by myself with the same vice grip pliers that you used. It was pretty easy. Interestingly, the trunk now stays open when put up. But when it falls, can still crack your head or chop off your fingers (still heavy) if you are not careful. My coworker was knocked unconscious when the trunk rebounded and hit her in the head. Thanks again for this video.

@@GTCharlieI have a 1997 Accord DX. One of the trunk tension rod spring rods broke so the trunk lid will not stay up. The dealer said this part is discontinued and not available. Checked with several junk yards and none have it. Do you know of a jury rig to fix this problem OTHER than using a broomstick?
@jddrawrah9694
@jddrawrah9694 11 месяцев назад
Thanks dude! Perfect explanation. The vise grips work perfectly if you clamp as close to the raw end of the rod as possible that will allow you enough space between the supports and the vise grips themselves to easily work the tension bar into place.

"Thank you!" ...My short story on this, I'm going to copy it to two videos as a "Thank you" to both for giving me the best ideas on how to fix it: 2006 Accord, took two weeks to get the torsion rod part in from a Honda parts discount site. Only ordered the torsion rod, not the middle plastic piece. Ended up _breaking_ the plastic piece when I tried to get it in: NO NEED TO GET IT IN THE PLASTIC PIECE FOLKS. (I was pissed as hell, thinking I needed to order the piece after half of it crumbled like a saltine cracker). I decided "Screw it, I'm not going to order that part" and just put the rod across/under it, instead of "in" it. So for the rod, one of the videos used a vice grip, the other a wrench to get it around the hook,...I ended up using an old crow bar that was about an inch wide by a quarter inch thick, (about 2 feet long). The crow bar enabled me to fight the rod down enough around the hook that it then snapped into place. Once you get the rod to that hook, you'll see what I mean; the crow bar gives the leverage to get it bent down and slid into it, since the rod will be resisting going in that direction. Crow bar could be manipulated against the nearby trunk metal above to force it down. Very little muscle needed with this kind of leverage. *NOTE* ...HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE TRUNK UP FOR YOU. Even if you prop it up with (whatever) IT WILL LIFT ITSELF HIGHER AS YOU TRY TO FORCE THE ROD IN...Making any prop you have potentially drop, and the trunk can then COME DOWN. Not a super-heavy trunk, but not body-part-friendly one either!! It would've taken me who-knows-how-long without the two videos helping me, so big thanks to both of you. Trunk now works fine, and again, without the need for a fully intact plastic piece in the middle (the one rod that was not broken...broken in the same place as one of these vids by the way, and was caused by going over a large pothole here in NY...still had it's rod *in* the plastic piece that I decided not to replace. And it's working fine.). Again, thank you both and Cheers!
