IF YOU ARE GETTING A BLANK TAB AFTER YOU CHANGE THE INSTRUMENT. COPY ALL THE NOTES FROM THE SCORE BEFORE YOU CHANGE INSTRUMENTS (Do CTRL+A then CTRL+C) THEN AFTER YOU REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT DO CTRL + V AND IT SHOULD WORK.

Running v 4.2 on Windows, I get a different layout. There is nothing in the right hand screen. When I add guitar, it appears in a separate window, and the only option is play solo. There are no tabs across the top of the window for staffs. New version, Windows or user error?

Dude thank you so much. I made some lead sheets with musescore the other night for the first time for my school's Jazz Combo. And it was actually really fun. Lol. So I was thinking to myself, I could use this to turn tabs to notes and probably the opposite as well. Thanks for this video! It's exactly what I was looking for. Like litterally exactly. Including the pdf part and everything, so thank you very much I really appreciate it. This is very valuable to me.

This was wayyy helpful. Been writing a new song and need to have the bass recorded (as it’s currently just a vast playing it), but I don’t have the time to show the bassist how to play all the parts so I just imported the midi file. Didn’t really think of the instrument part, but it makes total sense! Musescore imported the midi file as a piano instrument and that’s why I was unable to convert it to tab. Thanks!

I just used this and it only took me 10 minutes to get the exact tabs I wanted on my first time using the tool. Now I realize I can get tabs to any song I want using your tool. Before today I was spending more time transposing than playing. Now I can play!! Thank you!!!!

Very clear: thank you! The tab automatically created by Musescore is not always perfect. For example, we may wish to use another part of the fretboard, say, on another cord for instance. I would be interested in direct way to tune the conversion, or direct ways to modify it.

Can you please do this video for Musescore 4? Basically I'm lost. Everytime I download Musescore 3 it insists that I download 4 version. Once I get into # 4, your #3 instructions do not match. I would like to convert music notation from a music book to tablature.Thank you for your talents!

Yeah, same. These instructions don't work for Musescore 4. You can't change the staff type from the instruments dialog.

I downloaded MuseScore 4 and when I opened it, the Edit menu does not have such sub-menu Instrument for me to select Plucked and Classical guitar? What seems to be the problem? Thanks!

Just to note that the process has been changed in MuseScore4 - once you have imported your PDF, the instruments are not changed in the Add New Instruments dialog but in the instrument page on the left (use View|Instrument if it is not there). Expand the instrument by clicking on it and you should see the clef and use the settings cog to display the settings. From there you can convert the notes to tabs. When I did this for a bass tab, MuseScore decided that the score needed transposing by an octave for some reason, but selecting all and then using Ctrl-down-arrow fixed that.

I am using 4 so this video does not show the current updated program. I have not been able to figure out how to convert to tab once I have entered the notes for acoustic guitar.

@@TatiaMgow I think if you hunt around on the Instruments page it is hidden in the instruments settings (I.e. tab or stave is a feature of an instrument not of the editor itself). I must admit I found MS4 quite baffling to use.

@@IanMSpencer Agreed. It is not intuitive. You sort of have to hunt around. I think watching this video on the older version really threw me off because MS4 is a completely different set-up. Now that I understand that after inputting the notes (for acoustic guitar), you have to change the "acoustic guitar" treble clef 8va bassa/standard on the settings wheel to 6 string tab to get it to convert to tab.

Regarding converting PDF online, Musescore online accounts are not free any longer. There is a 30-day trial. A CC number is required to set up an account. And the file that is downloaded is a ZIP file that contains the .mscx file. You have to unzip the file. I use free 7-zip to extract the zipped contents of a ZIP file.

I have followed your excellent video exactly yet.....in trying to convert a normal musical notation for classical guitar to TAB I am presented with my original score with an empty TAB system below. Whatever I do I don't seem to be able to produce the line of TAB music under the normal music line. Can you help, please?

Musician Startup I have a question? On the tablature for guitar I know to press Alt + Shit + up arrow, and that I can change a number up or down. But on the tab what if there is X and that is inaccurate and a number needs to be there instead? I tried the Alt+Shift+up but it doesn't turn the X into a number. How do I turn the X into an actual number on the tab?

I'm trying to do a bass track I managed to separate from the song that I got converted to sheet music PDF. I've done the conversion to a musecore file but when I export to tab, it's blank.

This really helpful thank you. If I may ask a question? I've seen PDF tablature where the tab is color coded for finger positions, and inside was the name of the note Em etc. Reason for asking is teaching/learning soloing by ear using pentatonic "patterns" and using notes 1,4,5 or Dorian in those patterns. Visualization is a great tool to see how portions of Scales can be applied or repeat themselves across the fretboard. Thank you in advance.

Okay this is not working for me. I have downloaded the Muse Software. I have uploaded the classical guitar music to the Muse site. It has come back as a download in the muse format . It looks pretty good, looks same as the PDF i sent up. But when I try to convert it to tab I get a page of empty tab. One problem I might be having is that when I first choose the instrument option under Stave it says "Voice" I've changed that to Classical Guitar and also Tab same result, empty tabs. Any help appreciated

I did exactly that exept for Flute and no tab comes up. I tried everything. Does only guitar tabs work? How do you make it do tabs for Flute. Please help.

As you know, there are many ways to form THE SAME chord across the guitar neck. I put aside my tablature weeks ago trying to get better at reading guitar sheet music at a comfortable level. I can travel all over the guitar neck when reading tablature but not when reading notes. How do I convert from tablature chords to chords on the G clef? I am having trouble forming THE SAME chord across the guitar neck using notes on the G cleft. If you don't know of a free online converter that can do this, how is this done? Thank you.

This didn't work for converting to ukulele tablature. All that happened was that a new instrument was added "Ukulele" and the measures were all filled with whole rests. Too bad--I wasted a lot of time entering the score.

It’s not accurately loading the pdf into musescore. It’s converting Repeats and Rests into notes. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome 🙏 Thanks

Nope. Musescore is just hassle and never works properly. Thanks for the video though. Unfortunately Musescore is just endless stress . Stick with guitar pro or tuxguitar.
