Posture is probably the easiest and healthiest way to improve your appearance.
Your posture impacts your thin slice, determining how attractive you appear and how confident you appear.
Posture also has a major impact on airflow and blood flow, meaning it has a MAJOR impact on performance. Posture impacts how well you speak, how athletic you can be, even bedroom performance.
And lastly, posture has a fairly meaningful impact on your health, ESPECIALLY as you get older. Your posture today is dramatically going to impact if you’re the kind of person that’s living a full life when you’re older. If you don’t fix the minor issues you have today, they will compound over time.
I’m going to go piece by piece through the most common postural issues, the common causes and how to minimize that negative impact, and then how to proactively fix your posture so it’s perfect.
0:50 Fix posture for the forward head and present a better posture and avoid neck pain
2:48 You won't show a more confident body language with this so do improve posture
6:17 How to have a better posture if not a perfect posture is to do these posture exercises

Quick note on neck/head posture! A commenter raised a great question that got me to dig more into various neck issues. I learned there are actually two types of imbalances that can mess with your posture. The first comes from looking down at your phone while texting, which causes the imbalance I talk about in this video. The second is actually the exact opposite problem! It's caused by tight chest muscles pulling you forward and then your neck compensating to keep your eyes looking forward, leading to tight muscles in the back of your head where the head and neck connect. In this instance you actually want to work on elongating your rear neck. The good news is that tucking your chin during the wall angels should help with this second type of neck/head misalignment. Ultimately you'll have to diagnose yourself. Try various neck stretches and see what areas feel tight. Also pay attention to which stretches seem to lead to better posture afterwards because that's a good indication that that's the area that's overly tight for you. And if things are severe, you can always go to a physical therapist and get a professional to help you out.

Charisma on Command I have a wall angel question: Not really getting winded after I do them so I’m concerned I’m not doing them right. Is there any other way to tell? (Should I feel the erector muscles get tighter for example?) thanks a lot for the awesome video and thanks for the appendix. I actually have that second kind of neck issue.

Zachary Alan I just explained that the whole name is United States of America. Many people both in and out of the United States of America, not wanting to constantly say the whole name, commonly shorten it to America. The "core" of the name is to simply shorten a longer name. It is a socially acceptable thing to say all over the world as everyone knows it is simply a shortened version of the whole name. If you don't know that, it shows ignorance. Similarly, many people all over the world simply call South Korea, " Korea," to shorten it despite there being a North Korea.

Those are only temporary fixes. But doesn't address the issue with the internal rotation of the rotator cuff. He said stretch the chest which is right but this will only help some people. You need to strengthen more then the spinal Erector's and the reason why is we are always stronger on pushing movements and there for create weak backs. So you have to open up with something like face pulls.

As always, the answer is yoga. Seriously, I researched "mewing" because of the other comments, and it turns out it's just a minor variation of The Locked Tongue pose. There's actually a whole range of exercises that help you to tone the muscles in your face and neck there, just google facial yoga. Also, check the position of your shoulders in every day life - draw them backwards and down. They do that in ballet; it's pretty much anti-slouching, which also counters the effect of a double-chin on someone's perception. Simply adjusting your shoulders this way makes you instantly look confident, open and relaxed. (it makes you FEEL this way, too) And whatever you do: NO neckbeard. Doesn't help at all. Just like wearing a huge poncho doesn't make you look slim. :P If you want to, just grow out a normal full beard, it has a much better effect.
@nadinerick1182
@nadinerick1182 5 лет назад
Losing body fat doesn't always help - and gaining weight doesn't always lead to a double chin. Genetics. Just look at Max Wright. :P I, for one, didn't even have a double chin when I was 50kg overweight, neither does the rest of my family whenever they gain weight. Mewing alone isn't enough - but it IS extremely similar to the Locked Tongue position in Yoga. If I had that problem, I'd google facial Yoga and do that whole range of exercises, instead of just relying on a fad exercise that would take years to take effect.

Benjamin Altman Same here. 😵 Thank you hun, will do all of these! You guys (hi Charlie!) create content that is really useful, this motivates me to reconsider creating a channel of my own... Hugs and namaste.

Me too. Don't worry about why you did it, now you know how to fix it. You should start doing this today. I know I will.

I hurt my back last week when I had to lift something heavy and it didn't get much better. Thanks to RU-vid recommendating this video. With the help of your tips I tried to do something about my posture and a part of the backache went away on the same day.

My favourite chest stretch is clasping both hands together behind my back (roughly mid back) then pushing them down towards my heals. It naturally pushes the chest out, rolls the shoulders back and gets rid of the slouch in one movement.

Thanks to my ego, I made myself aware about my posture when I was 17/18, which fixed it, perfectly.

Wow I just tried the wall angel. I couldn’t do it fully but I did try it and got stretching on part of my upper back - which looked terrific in the mirror afterwards - it even helped with my forward rolling right shoulder. Thank you very much indeed.
