I am 4' 7" and started sewing my own petite wardrobe. I can wear children's sizes, junior sizes & petites, and honestly I couldn't find anything in the stores that I wouldn't need to alter. Now I sew my own high end fashion styles. 😘
That takes a lot of talent. I have always wanted to sew, but I’m a disaster with a sewing machine. Good job 👍. Making your own clothes is a lost art. I can remember when I was a child, my grandmother and Mom would sew mine and my sisters clothes all the time. I wish I would have paid attention and learned from them.
Great ideas. I am 4'10" . I've got a lifetime experience at being the shortest adult in the room. Here's my top, number one tip for not looking short: don't stand next to taller people and NEVER get photographed standing next to taller people. Of course, this advice is almost impossible to follow. Unlike Erin's.
I am 5'2 and my entire family towers over me. My mom is almost 6', as is my hubbie. My adult son is 6'3 and my "baby" is a teen and is 5'8 and still growing. I'm ALWAYS the shortest in any picture. But I don't mind being short most of the time (except for when I can't reach the stupid last sock in the bottom of the washer!). I embrace being different from the rest of my family. And they love to tease me and call me "pocket sized" etc.
I’m so glad I subscribed to your channel. I’m 57 and 5.2 inches. I’m trying to get myself back into shape and health after breast cancer. Survivor yea!!!! I want to start changing my attitude towards myself. I’m negative about me. I hope I can learn from your positive attitude. 🙏
Hi, I just subscribed when I saw the title of the video.I am 52 years old, I am 4 feet 10 inch, so I am very petite,I am about 110 pounds and a size 5 shoe, (which are very hard to find and an arthritic big toe on my left foot, which makes finding a high heel that is comfortable, almost impossible.) You are very knowledgeable about styling a petite person, and I am so glad I found this video today.
Hi, Bernadine! Thank you so much for subscribing! I appreciate you sharing this! I know heels can be difficult to wear so I did a video on stylish flats that you can find here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J2_tPpJlukE.html Thanks again for subscribing and watching! Erin xo
As a 40 yr old woman, and only 5’ tall, I feel like this video was made specially for me! Along with the trends coming up for fall (my favorite season also), I am looking forward to try some new styles...now I just need places to go to. Thank you so much, I enjoy all of your content very much
Just have to say - I love love love your hair, make-up, earrings and shirt in this video. I have been binge watching your videos and I am learning so much. I was doing pretty good with my style but was being assisted because it doesn’t come natural for me. I gained quite a bit of weight after I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Using this down time to focus on my health & fitness plus plan out a new wardrobe.
I love that you can pull off being sophisticated and down-to-earth at the same time. Love your videos. I’ve been obsessed with fashion since the days of Linda Evangelista gracing the cover of Vogue. I started buying fashion magazines at 13 with my babysitting money. I thought I knew a lot, but I seriously have learned so much from your videos. Keep up the great content 👍👍👍👍
These are great tips! I'm a curvy pear-shaped petite. I'm only 5'1" and my wider hips really challenge me when picking pants and I really struggle with styling! I have extremely narrow shoulders too which make it even harder to find clothes that fit. Love your videos!
Platforms will give height AND a certain amount of comfort. Foot size makes a big difference. My short foot--size 6--won't really tolerate much higher heel than maybe a two inch. I can bump that up with a platform.
Incredibly helpful video. I’ve watched your other videos and had no idea you were 5’4”!!! I always thought you were much taller. Thank you also for the links and the prices.
Even though I knew most of these, being 5'2", it's good to be reminded! I wish I could wear a body con dress like the red one you rocked! I know the point is to wear something fitted and I can do that! I'm off to watch the top knot hair video! Thanks Erin!!
Really great tips! I am 5'7" but I never miss one of your style teaching videos. Just like you promised...something for everyone. My go to uniform is a pair of flared jeans/pants and heels. There is something empowering when you look taller. I like that flares aren't ubiquitous and that may also be why they get so much attention ; ) Legs do look a mile long. One color tip, works no matter what shade you are wearing! Thanks for the tested guideline reminders! : ) PS...How pretty you look in this video in the angular strappy top and your adorable top knot...bun..."croissant" you are wearing. Super cute on you do continue to rock it! I hope this comment will bring to you a smile; as you were talking that adorable knot had familiar movement, puzzled, then I recognized the familiar part...IT'S A SLINKY! Well that association/memory made me extra happy! By now I think you know I simply adore you...hope this made you smile too! : ) XO Bunnie
Love the idea to get models for different body types! Looking forward to watching that video. Also, as already mentioned travel outfits would be awesome. I will going on a European trip and that calls for hours in the air. I want to be comfortable, and stylish, only travel with carryon luggage. Tips on changing to maybe a cozy slipper and maybe a nice wrap for when the air is blasting. We need your help please!
This video was amazing!! I have notes saved in my phone from this video and other ones on styling curvy ladies as well. I’m short and curvy and 46 years young. I need a refresh for sure. Thanks for all the helpful tips!
I'm 5'1" so I loved these tips. Especially for the monochromatic look and for the dark wash jeans. The baggy look comment is funny but true. Also some jewelry can be over powering too. Thank you!
5'9" here, but I still loved your tips...😜 Always enjoy your informative and fun videos☺️ You have a great sense of humor!.... The nude shoes w dresses and skirts tip is HUGE, makes a tremendous difference! The bun on top of your head hair style is adorable, btw...
Great tips. I'm 5'5 but still need to look taller. I can totally do all of these but I will wear boxy heels not spikes when it is necessary. Thanks for all your advice! (Addicted to your channel)
Thanks Erin....Your videos like this help me soooo much , learn to dress . I will change in the morning, sometimes...thinking Erin would say a big no to this.. Love the side by sides.. esp jeans and the hair up...all good tips. Thanks Erin....appreciate all your work👒🎁👗👖👜👠❤❤❤
Thanks Erin! I'm 5'11" and my best friend is 5' so we're both sides of the spectrum and encounter somewhat similar issues when trying to find clothes. :-) Anyway these are great - sometimes I use the "befores" to look shorter or just not so tall. :-D
Hi Erin, I'm 5ft 4", I'm 71 and although I could probably wear shorter skirts with opaque tights(winter) I choose longer length (below knee). I feel shorter skirts are not for me now. The max heel height for me is 4" with a platform. Comfortably I can walk in 3.5 " no higher. High heels are for 2hrs only wear! I'm in Europe and like your video's. Like the idea of specific 'videos' for body shape,. I am forever altering my clothes as seldom find things that fit perfectly, not even high-end.
Thanks so much for sharing Elaine! I completely understand that! I always say to choose clothing and accessories that make you feel confident and comfortable! So happy you like my videos! Hoping to get those videos for body types out to you all as soon as possible! Thanks again, Elaine! Erin xo
Loved your video and as a short gal, 5 ft even I have spent my 62 years trying to be taller. Heels are really the best way to make you look longer, especially with pants. I have pants for heels and pants for flats because you just can't do both with the same pair of shoes when you have a 28 inch inseam. Just make certain you can wear the heals you wear with "heals pants" long enough to make it through the day or night.
Erin, love the before and after shots to demonstrate...wow, what a difference! Oh my, the cutoff jeans with the butt cheeks showing, my mom would NEVER let me walk out of the house like that. Hopefully, that "look" will die very soon...I see it way more often then I want to - LOL. Thanks again and can't wait for the virtual styling! XO, Nancy
Nancy...it's shocking. Looks like something you would see in south beach except it's young girls in your back yard. Yikes! I'm not sure how I will execute the virtual styling, but I'm so tired of not being able to feature other body types because I can't find models. I feel like this could be a solution. Erin xo
Great tips! I realize that just yesterday I looked like one of the "before" scenarios with flowy pants and a flowy top...yikes! How timely is this video for me, lol! I am always inspired by your videos and I drool over your toned arms and shoulders. Do you have a certain arm workout to achieve that? I am inspired to now go and do some shoulder exercises while I watch more of your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Haha happy it helped! You're so sweet, thank you! I have been doing a workout program that I shared in a video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BM4g1OP6ze4.html I've also started running a lot more lately to train for a race I did last week and another one I have coming up! I've also done a video on what I eat here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vmYcdacNWi4.html Hope these help! Again, thank you so much! Erin xo
Hi Erin. This is the first time I have watched one of your videos. You are adorable, charming, and don't take yourself too seriously. I cracked up when you mentioned the gal you saw with the hemline so short, you saw " full cheek". Good lord, do these ladies not have any common sense??? ha-ha! Loved this video, with your excellent comparisons, it helps a great deal to see the difference. I am 5.1 ft, so I really do like to create the illusion of being longer and leaner as you say. I have belly fat, so tucking things in makes me more self-conscious, and I am trying to divert attention away from that zone. I use the monochromatic idea, as well as the "volume" on the top, and fitted bottom technique as much as I can. I am struggling to find a nude pump that is not patent! I don't like a shiny, glossy shoe, as I believe it draws attention to it, instead of being part of your foot. You have an amazing figure, and beautiful face, lucky ducky! I don't have long hair anymore, I gave up on that business lol. Too much to color, and style, and it ended up in a pony all the time, so why bother. I have a cute, flirty and textured bob, and I think that lengthens my neck and elongates my frame so , that is a tip that can help other ladies out there. Love from Canada, I look forward to more of your videos for petite moms. :)
Thanks, Paulina! I jumped on the shorter hair bandwagon myself. Jury is out whether it is easier or more difficult for me. I appreciate you watching and subscribing! Petite ladies unite! 😉
I just feel that your videos are getting better and better! Thank you for this informative and well-edited video and keep up the good work! Off to buy some bootcut dark wash jeans............ 🙏🏻😘
Oh my gosh I laughed out loud when you mentioned telling your daughter she couldn't leave the house "like that". My girls are 6 & 8yrs old and I do the exact same thing. And thanks for the short girl tips! I'm only 5' and I'm a bit curvy. Any ideas for us? Lol!!
Hi, Erin, I'm all over those fantastic earrings you have on in this video. I need these NOW!!! My goe to heel is my nude Sam Edelman pumps. These pumps are so comfy. Thank you, for reminding me I need a new pair of dark wash flare jean. I hope you have your favorite recommendation listed below. I love that you mentioned handbag size! That is key! I also think a large handbag that is held and falls at the widest part of the body is not the most attractive. For me, I don't like large bags that hit at my hips. Thank you for all your great suggestions! Love you bunches!
You should get them...I love them so much! Here's the link: rstyle.me/~aArdk Yes, love the Sam Edelman pumps! I shared a couple options for flare jeans in the description box! Thank you so much, Sandy! Erin xo
Erin!!!! You read my mind! I had been planning to send you a request for some tips for us petite ladies. I am 5'1 on a good day! Lol. Thanks so much. Gonna watch this again and take notes. xo-beth
Perfect! Yes, this one is for you!! It's amazing how much taller you can look. Some people have said to me that they always think I'm taller. I think to myself, it's because I dress tall. ;) Erin xo
Love your videos and your style - thanks so much for sharing all your tips. Also love the lip color you’re wearing in this video, would you mind sharing the brand and shade?
I just found you on youtube and am a new subbie. Also now following on Instagram. This is the best advice I've seen yet on how to look taller. You are amazing and an age appropriate role model for me. LOVE the tips, thank you! xo
Great tips on this video. I've been updating my outfits to incorporate your tips and those I've learned over the years but finding just the right outfit is a bit of a challenge especially as I don't like trying on clothes in stores. It's not easy to find pointy shorter heels (no taller than 2") either especially when marrying style and comfort. Comfortable ones are bulky and makes me look squat and stylish ones are often uncomfortable. I need to find a shop that makes custom shoes. SAS shoes, Eccos, Rockports are not cutting it.
It is difficult. One tip that I can offer is to go to a store like Nordstrom that has a great return policy. You can sort their shoes by category (heels), Heel height (under 2") and toe style (pointed). Here is a link so that you can view the results: rstyle.me/+-h7tRZE9rNKWjBZKv7agkg
Hi, Erin. I'm 64. That's not a body type, but it is a consideration. I'm a petite on top and a short regular on bottom (short legs and arms). At Talbots, I buy 8 regular pants and alter; and 8 or 10 petite jackets. Glad you are doing this for folks.
I'm a bit confused about what kind of skirts I should wear. Long skirts don't look good, I feel i'm getting lost in them, and I love midi skirts so much, but they don't look good without heels. I go to work on foot (about 1km walk) so I can't wear heels. Short skirts dont look very good on me either because my legs are kinda fat lol. I think dresses look better because they don't 'cut' my body in pieces, anyway, could you make a video about skirts and petite women? :D
This would be a great question for the Hive, busbeestyle.com/the-hive/ . On the Hive you can post pictures of your looks and get feedback from me, my team, and fellow community members.
Could you please tell me where you purchased those earrings? Also, what brand of makeup do you use? I just subscribed to your channel about 10 minutes ago.
New sub...you're amazing!!! Loving your videos and all the links you add for clothes! I hate going to the mall and I'm pretty easy to fit...and since you're the same height and size....I feel like I have a personal shopper...:-)
That is amazing, Melanie! Thank you so much for subscribing and sharing that with me. I'm so happy you are here and let me know how I can help... Erin xo
I discovered you on u tube about 2 weeks ago, I’ve pretty watched all your videos I love them, the funny part is I am a size 18 but a lot of your tips are really complementary to any size 😁👏🏼
Would love your tips on wearing heels to be as comfortable as possible. I struggle sooo much because I have very wide feet and even some wide widths are too narrow :(. And I don't want to look like a grandma!!
Oh gosh...I know what you mean and I've had many clients like you. Look for COMFORT shoes/heels. They will provide support and comfort that you need. The problem is...many DO look old-ish. I would be happy to send you a few recs if you email me: erin@busbeestyle.com
Hi Erin love your video great examples. It certainly does make a difference especially when you are really short like me 5'2". Do you know some women don't actually think they are petite because they are say a size 16. They don't realize it is actually the height and/or body length. I work in ladies retail and was surprised to hear some ladies say this. Have a great day xo
That is strange indeed. I find that some woman do not know the basics that's why I keep repeating them... Thanks so much for watching and sharing! Erin xo
Thank you, these tips are helpful. The short/petite struggle is very real. Can’t count all the times people said you’re cute, this went into adulthood, women want to look sexy, and hot, not cute. Big shout out to the fabulous ladies here under 5’ 5” most bet are under 5’ rock out the bootleg jean, and high heeled boot, all the illusions are changing cute! Get older and the how tall are you answer may change, mine is a sassy 💁♀️ “ I’m 5 foot-ISH” “ 😂
Love these suggestions even though I am not petite (5' 8"). Regarding cardigans, if you find one that hits between the 2 you shared, mid calf, is that also elongating? I just picked out a few beauties at the NA Sale, but I'm considering exchanging based on your thoughts in this video. Love what you do Erin!
Which flare jeans are you actually wearing in the after? I’d like to know cause you listed a few but the ones your wearing specifically areperfect. Also what brand is the white blouse with the lace up from detail? Thank you!
Hopefully, a helpful hint, that worked for me......Ask your daughter “what do you think about that hemline, etc. My son always surprised me with answers that were more”moralistic” and appropriate than I would have ever thought I would receive from him! I would like to know how it works with a young lady because I only have one son! I absolutely love your videos!
HI Erin! What jeans are you wearing in the before picture - the light wash? I really like them, I have smaller hips and thin legs but larger on top so I'm looking for balance in what I wear. Thanks!
Thank you Erin. Most helpful. Visuals and editing are great. I am 5'4 and chunky.. Everyone says I have lost weight when I follow these tips. Because I am bigger on the top half, I often wear a belt at hip level OR on the ribcage. Is this correct if Im after an elongated balanced look? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺✔💌😎👜👠
