Nice job. My first topper I did the same thing. The 3M worked ok. My carpet started coming unglued and started hanging down after a year. My second topper I bought had factory installed carpet. Definitely the better way to go. Great video. One side note. You didn’t use it, which is a good thing. Never use gorilla glue adhesive spray. Complete junk

Did the windows work out being waterproofed. I came here for that. As for the carpet. I just did that. Never again. My worked very well. Thanks

Well done Jake. I am wanting to do this exact same thing with the reflectix insulation and carpet. May I ask how much you spent total on insulation, carpet and adhesive? Also, I noticed when you put the cap back on the truck you didn't add a seal under the bottom of the cap where it rests on the bed, did you have any leaking as a result? Thanks!

Thanks. I was probably about 5 to 700$ all in and the cap already had a piece of weather stripping on the bottom of the cap.

I have an old shell on my truck that I have been thinking of doing this to. After you have done this, is it worth it? Do you notice a big increase in staying warm? i have been on the fence because I dont want to go through all the work if its just a small improvement. I usually hunt our of mine so its down in the single digits and I use a buddy heater now.

Did you ever try it yourself I see he did not respond to your question. I also want to try this but I want to use 1" foam board.

@@phillipjacobson4457 I have not done anything to the windows or the cap itself. I found some rigid foam board that was used for the skirting of a mobile home and cut it to fit into the walls and floor and now have built a basic platform. Huge improvements with that done. I will probably tackle the windows this spring because i noticed some water leakage evidence.

@@phillipjacobson4457 I have also watched a lot of other videos using reflectix and seems like you MUST create an air gap in order to actually create some R-value. Otherwise you are just creating a radiant heat layer. I am trying to capture as much heat inside as possible when it gets super cold.

I've only had a shell with carpeting but I bet it makes a big difference. I'm fairly cozy in mine. It also cuts down on condensation because water can't condense on carpet like it can on smooth fiberglass

@@joshkarum846 - I read that too ! Without an air gap it's only R-1.1 !

Do you think insulation is worth it for someone that may only camp in it less than a handful of times a year? Just got a used leer for my f150. Plan to carpet it. Debating on whether or not to insulate first?

First time you're ever in the freezing cold trying to sleep it is absolutely worth insulating, even if it's only one time in 2 years. There is nothing worse than trying to sleep in the freezing cold.
