Conservatory Insulation done right.
We have decided to put it online because we have seen far too many videos of DIY attempts at insulating conservatories.
While its perfectly possible for an experienced handyman / builder etc to fit conservatory insulation, there are many considerations to taken into account.
First, NOT ALL CONSERVATORIES can be insulated. Just because you have glazing bars does not mean it will support the weight of the installation. Also the span you are covering - use the wrong materials, don't take these into consideration and in just a few years, your roof will bow, leading to leaks. Worse is that if you dont have a dwarf wall or proper supports and / or tie bar's, then there is a VERY VERY strong possibility that the weight will push the walls, and pull the conservatory away from the house.
Next is the issue of condensation - 99% of the DIY conservatory insulation installation you see use Superquilt / TLX / Superfoil from places like B&Q or other building merchants. These quilts are Multi-layer 40mm thick. If you read the LABC (Local Authority Building Control) or BBA (British Board of Agrement) certificates you will see they advise that 40 - 50mm battens (Depth) are used. This is because without 25mm or greater air gaps there is insufficient airflow to eliminate condensation. If you follow the guides the actual insulated roof would need to come down around 18 cm's which none of the DIY ones do, or show - Our system provided not only a 35mm air gap but also a second 25mm air gap creating amazing air flow.
The next and BIGGER issue is Fire Rating - Superquilt, Conservaheat and Superfoil all have a fire safety rating of 'E', TLX has a fire safety rating of 'F' - all of which are deemed combustible - and while we have NEVER heard of a conservatory catching fire because of its insulation - when the fire safety regulations changed, it makes them non fire safe - while you can still install these in your conservatory, the issue comes when you come to sell or re mortgage the property, Banks and Building Societies can refuse to issue the funds once the survey finds a non fire safe material unless you have fire breaks fitted.
We are Conservatory Insulation Solutions Ltd a family run company based in Worcestershire covering England and Wales. We use this video as part of our demonstration when visiting people to explain about conservatory roof insulation, the benefits, the costs etc.
We install the ONLY Fire Rated 'A' and the ONLY Breathable solution in the UK - we offer a FULL 10 year guarantee.
Conservatory insulation can offer several benefits, both in terms of comfort and energy efficiency.
Temperature regulation: Insulating the roof helps to regulate the temperature inside the conservatory. It can prevent the conservatory from becoming too hot during the summer and too cold during the winter. This makes the conservatory more comfortable and usable year-round.
Energy efficiency: A well-insulated conservatory can reduce the need for heating and cooling, which can lead to lower energy bills. By maintaining a more stable temperature, you can use less energy to heat or cool the space.
Cost savings: Lower energy bills can result in cost savings over time. The initial investment in insulation can pay for itself through reduced energy consumption.
Increased property value: Insulating a conservatory can enhance the overall value of your property. Prospective buyers or renters often view a well-insulated conservatory as an attractive feature, increasing the marketability of your home.
Noise reduction: Insulation can also help reduce outside noise, making the conservatory a more peaceful and comfortable place to relax.
Reduced condensation: Conservatory insulation can help control condensation in the conservatory. This can prevent issues like mold and mildew growth. This can have major benefits for the very young and also those who suffer from COPD or any other breathing conditions.
Extended lifespan of furnishings: The stable temperature, reduction in harmful ultra violate rays and the reduced condensation resulting from insulation can help protect your furniture, plants, and other belongings in the conservatory. This can extend the lifespan of your conservatory’s interior.
Improved aesthetics: A properly insulated conservatory improves the visual appeal of the conservatory roof.
Environmentally friendly: Using less energy to heat and cool the conservatory is not only cost-effective but also better for the environment, as it reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Compliance with building regulations: In some areas, conservatory roof insulation may be required to meet building codes and regulations, ensuring that the space is safe and energy-efficient.
