Hello dear friends and colleagues. I welcome all of you to another video on critical care which is highly rated among all intensivists.
To understand the shape, size, and extent of each abdominal structure, and the relationship between them, we will go through normal axial scans of the abdomen. We are going to appreciate normal structures only, which will help you to understand the abnormal structures, variations, and pathologies in a better way.
There is a scout view or topogram printed on the upper left corner of a CT film, which shows a 2-dimensional X-ray image acquired using a CT scanner. This scout image shows the area of the body covered for a CT scan. Remember in A CT abdomen, scanning starts from the lower part of chest till end of the pelvic cavity.
So here is an axial view shown. Anteriorly there is the sternum and heart and posteriorly you can see the thoracic vertebra. You can see lungs on either side of the heart which is placed anteriorly just behind the sternum.
