How to interview a candidate
In this video of "How to interview a candidate" I go through the lessons I learnt as both a candidate and an interviewer.
I think the job of the interviewer is to find out "does this person fit into our organisation". For me that involved learning about them as a person. Not learning about their technical skills or academic qualifications. Those are obvious from the CV filter you've already done.
I would deep dive and listen to them talking about their life from birth. Where did you school? Where did you grow up? Do you have siblings? Did you live with your parents? Are they still together? Are you still close with your siblings and parents? Where are your friends now? What do your friends do now? What do you enjoy doing outside of work? What are your hobbies?
You're looking for red flags. A history of disasters. A history of confrontation.
If you like the person, it is likely you'll like working with this person.
Look out for clues of personality traits you dont like, ego, macho, ignorant, temper, greed.
Like for kindness, caring, diligence, aptitude.
I always liked people that did something outside of work to a high level. They were on the most part, level headed, competitive, ambitious and able. Great qualities to have in a business.
Good luck.
