I thought you also would have noticed snd comment the friend toxicity issue on this episode!! That August guy reeks of poison in every comment he does to Patrick when he meets his bf! We really have to learn to spot those "friends" and STOP pretending they are our friends, when objectively they're just evil people we cling on to, 'cause the only thing they say to us is unrequested ridiculous critics and hard judgments of every life decision we make.

I just watched your review of God's Own Country. Loved that movie and story. Your insight is always amazing. Another drama series you should watch is A Place To Call Home (2013- 2018). It is Australian and amazing. It is soapish but the gay storyline is everything. I think it ran for 6 seasons and I instantly became hooked. It has a Grand Dame, repressed Homosexuality, conversion therapy, gay bashing, and an amazing love found story. Of course, it has psychos and murder, but I loved the gay characters, and it worked, so well. I have watched twice and after this writing I am going in for a third.

It's so cool you met Russell Tovey. And I agree there are things we take the piss out of each other in a friend group that are okay, but would be wholly unacceptable from an outsider. Yet, it's possible that those jokes just might come from a place of internalized homophobia... Yeah. It's complicated, but people and groups are allowed to be. We're not a monolith. The second-hand embarrassment of Patrick not introducing Richie. Whoof. Honestly, Richie deserves better than Patrick. I said what I said.

Patrick was an idiot for propping up Richie to impress his boss and his husband. One-up-manship is a thing, and it’s not just a gay thing, it’s an insecure thing. Agustin, sadly a name I share only, was a total shit, and the one that annoys me equally/more so than Patrick. He has a great boyfriend, but he’s slowly sabotaging it because he wants more/something else. The whole sex-worker is just all kinds of ick because Agustin is lying to Frank about the whole situation only compounded by filming of Frank and the sex-worker having sex where consent is not clearly given to Frank. Richie does has his flaws because he can come off intense. Sadly, it’s mostly an engrained cultural macho thing, but in this episode, I feel he had a reason to get defensive and offended. His newly minted boyfriend isn’t defending him from a petty friend and a boyfriend that is a little ashamed that that he only cuts hair for a living. This series is a rollercoaster. I wonder if you’ll see it through into the movie that’s kinda in place of what a season 3 would have been.

it's been a long time since i've seen this and this reminds me how disjoint and uncompelling the storyline is. yes, it's a little more realistic about how gay people actually behave, but that doesn't mean that it makes an interesting story. let's face it, most gay people are boring just like the rest of the population. that doesn't make for, er, a story worth telling.
