Learn how to sew an invisible hand stitch, often referred to as the slip stitch or ladder stitch.
A wonderful and useful skill for a variety of sewing situations. This hand stitch is perfect for use when sewing up holes in items such as stuffed toys, decorations, pillows or cushion covers. It is also used to sew the lining in certain garments and the mitred corner on curtains.

@Ton Chawit - So happy to see you learning this for yourself; Cheap, fast fashion makes each new generation less likely to sew. My mother also didn't sew, but I was lucky to start learning with my grandmother at about 4yo (now 50yo) & I sought out people to learn more from as I got older (it was pre-internet). It's not just practical, it's creative & fun. Now that you have a valuable skill, be sure to enjoy it. Best wishes.

@@Revali4EverRito368 this really sounds useful to me I'm going to be repairing and making changes to my raggedy doll really soon but when I search for ideas of how to prepare her I'm just getting raggedy Ann videos she's not that kind of raggedy doll is a bit more modern I guess she's a blonde doll with blue eyes and a red dress with a rose embroidered onto it

Although I am not the typical demographic for a sewing video (I am just a guy looking to repair a torn car seat) I certainly recognize a very well done and informative how-to video. Thank you so much for taking the time to produce and post this video. This stitch style seems like exactly what I was looking for. You are awesome!

Hi Ross, that is really kind of you. I am so pleased that I could help and yes this stitch would be perfect for your car seat, maybe use a double thread, like this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yCdCTuNyPx0.html for extra strength. Good luck and thank you for your lovely message. Aneka :-))

Very well said. Since i am a total do-it yourselfer the more skills and knowledge I can acquire the better. Did not mean to imply that sewing was somehow not "manly" because I do not feel that way at all. Just wanted to give props for an excellent and concise how-to video.

We looked at one website of the professional stuffed animal repair shops just for even an invisible stitch and ladder stitch task; except the price they charge is ridiculously expensive ranging from eighty to three hundred dollars for a stuffed toy depending on size. We cannot even think about sending in the stuffed toy with a hole in it to those professional plush repairmen/repairwomen because of the high price and the high shipping to be paid at our expense. By at these videos (our proficiency level of sewing is beginner), it can save us lots of money. Excellent demonstration, by the way.

I make placemats and have to do a slip stitch as my placemats have batting inside. I sell my placemats but noticed that when I closed the seam with my sewing machine, it doesn't look nice and professional. I decided to learn how to close up the seam with the slip stitch. I have watched a few videos on the slip stitch and I must say your video is the best!!!! Very clear on how to come out on the other side of the seam with the needle as before with other videos, my stitches were very visible and looked like small x's all the way across. Now my placemats looks so professional and you can barely see where I sewed up the opening! Thank you so much for posting this video!!!

Thank you for this Tutorial. I'm a 23 year old man, and this helped me to mend a small seam, that was opening up at the bottom of my Jacket. I showed my Grandmother, and she was impressed with my stitch-work. She said that she couldn't find where it was mended, until I had to point out exactly where. She seemed kind of disappointed, as to the fact that I'll no longer require her assistance to repair my cloths. Either way, I'm happy that I acquired another skill, in the sense that I don't have to depend of people, when I need something done.

I have a question.... at the end of sewing when you "lose the thread" wouldn't the thread come lose because I'm worried...
@squidzkin
@squidzkin 7 лет назад
loose*
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 7 лет назад
Hello, it won't come loose if you have sewn over yourself a couple of times or knotted the thread. This will hold everything in place and stop the thread from coming undone. You are simply loosing the end of the thread (after having secured it). Does that make sense? Thanks, Aneka :-))

I’m not trying to sound rude but why do you keep gasping? I was just confused and hoped you were ok
@MadetoSew
@MadetoSew 6 лет назад
Ha Ha - I am sorry about that. It was the microphone I used in the video! I have been through a number of microphones over the time and this one made me sound like a 'gasping hamster'!! :-)))
@alcatelevolve2859

_ Albertson_ , It's difficult to breathe when talking indefinitely. It takes training to overcome the gasp. Try hiking and talking at the same time...

Alcatel Evolve2 thank you so much for your kind words. I do a lot of walking and running, so I will try ‘talking on the go’. To get these close up shots I end up with the microphone so close to me that I realise getting a different lens might be the best answer! Thank you for your kindness and support. Aneka x
