Good job showing people the long pole techniques. My favorite way to fish. Also using the simple reels. I always laugh when I see guys with spinning reels trying to pitch with the long pole. It’s like putting a 200horse motor on a canoe.

Yep....was doing that as a kid, back in the 50's. But we were using a keen cane pole, cut from the river bank. In S..E. Oklahoma....we called it "tight line'in". In my 70's now, and still occasionally use a cane pole for crappie & perch. Most folks have never fished with a real cane pole.....not one of those two piece store bought jobs. A cane pole is actually very strong and quite sensitive.

I enjoy your videos, and I think you show a great passion for crappie fishing. I also think you do a good job of educating folks on fishing techniques. One thing I can’t get over is the constant need to throw the largest fish in the live well to take photos later. That really stresses fish out, and there is certainly some delayed mortality associated with doing that, especially during high water temps and spawning season. I agree that you have some great thumbnails, but I don’t know how you can do this one one hand and then promote throwing all the big fish back on the other. The photos of the flared gills in the photo demonstrate my point as well. Possibly you end up keeping all these fish, if so, then my comment really doesn’t matter.
@ExtremeAnglerTV
@ExtremeAnglerTV 2 года назад
Brandon, we sincerely appreciate your watching out content and your comments are legit, although it this scenario the fish we're indeed kept to be enjoyed by the friends and crew on this trip, I would never hold any fish by the gills and expect to release them, not respectful, that was never our intent, for thumbnail purpose since the fish we're harvested. As for other thumbnails, the bigger fish we're all released and only held briefly for a few photos and released we're caught ( yes exact same areas as caught); again, in some cases the fish we're kept as part of 5% kept and 95% released, we are sure you can agree, those are pretty good #'s for catch and release. We respect and release most of the bigger crappie we catch every year.

Jig pole is my favorite way for many reasons but I typically don't use that heavy of a jig . What's the benefit of using heavy jigs when jigging? Am I missing something by not doing that? Also why use a 10' pole when the nose of the boat is touching the tree trunk? Couldn't you just use 51/2- 6' if you're directly over the fish?
@ExtremeAnglerTV
@ExtremeAnglerTV 2 года назад
Exactly, it's the feel of the jig that is paramount, dependant upon what form of structure you are jigging.
@MP-cx2rh
@MP-cx2rh 2 года назад
You funny, you have a Garmin Live Scope and you say it’s the jig pole. Granted there are times for a jig pole but it’s hard to beat that 7’ fast action Crappie Max rod with a little bitty float and a Boogie Jig hand made hair jig from Jenny Perry Enterprise. Cast against that bank and pop that hair jig once or twice and bam…slab

Mike we appreciate all comments such as yours, but in certain situations, some guides, tournament anglers or individuals prefer the use of electronics like live scope to pinpoint the brush piles or individual fish, personally, I do not use it on my boat, to each it's own and we respect everyones choice either way, thanks for the watch time and comments once again.

@@ExtremeAnglerTV I can agree to some but dont you think for tournaments its almost like well cheating, what happened to the good old days when you had to basically find them with the old style fishfinders, I mean wasnt that half the fun and the live scopes for the avg fisherman is to expensive, but like you said to each his own I like your pole jigging tho love those monster crappies.
