How to judge a mahadasha in Jyotish (Vedic Astrology)

Dasha - it simply means "A given time period". It is also known as (Vimshottari dasha).
In Vedic astrology, your life span is control by a single planet at certain points of your life. Even though your entire chart is affecting you, the majority of events will be happening of a planet that is controlling your life for that time period, and depending upon its placement in your chart, it will provide either good or bad time in your life. The Dasha system is determined by your Nakshatra. We'll discuss Nakshatras later which are very important.
Below is the chart of time period of a single planet in Dasha system. This applies to everyone, but no one runs the same time period. If you're in Saturn time period, then your wife might be in Venus time period. To determine what time period you are operating currently, you must look at the 'Nakshatra' your Moon is placed in during your birth. In this video i give example of Amitabh Bachchan's horoscope.

So... Mars period = 7years Rahu period = 18years Jupiter period = 16years Saturn period = 19years Mercury period = 17years Ketu period = 7years Venus period = 20years Sun period = 6years Moon period = 10years. Summa sunmarum = 120years. So maybe there is a person who has a pretty bad chart but because he/she goes through the best periods of his/her life, he/she never experiences the worst of his/her life, and reverse. Right?

Actually this has to be correct in "this specific interpretation" - yet they would experience the values of placements plus the Sasha for full picture of their chart - and that can still be a positive outcome due to hose positions and Yogas. . . lol - yep it could look ugly and perform beautiful - .Good catch! ... and a brain twister!

It is always Planet with highest degree. However, In case of Rahu & Ketu, it will be opposite, hence you should look for degrees it covered in that zodiac (since its Retro) - also make sure to use Sidereal zodiac with ayanamsha while preparing birth chart. I think Kapiel forgot to mention this.

Cool Video, the NBC keeps coming up in many astrology lessons because of its accuracy. Normally, the "ashtakavarga " table is calculated for the standard birth chart and not the NBC. If the NBC is more accurate, should we not calculate the "ashtakavarga " for the NBC and refer to that instead of the standard table. Or is the table meant for the standard birth chart and not the NBC?

Is atmakaraka period necessarily good? I have a not so badly placed sun as AK and my sun period was crap. My parents divorced, my beloved cat got breast tumor and died, my love rejected me and I was in a such shaky mindstate that I had to cancel my studies because I could not concentrate. I've read somewhere that atmakaraka period is almost always problematic because it was supposed to purify you through suffering. If so, I'm glad it's over.

Ur not alone even my sun is ak and I am gong through sun dasha and I feel like shit all the time it wasn't until last year I saw on google that the vimshotari mahadasha of ak is full of sufferings to purify the soul and learn its lessons and its good for spiritual stuff ever since it began I am isolated lost all things I love and became pessimistic I can't wait for it to end I know u might not read this but I couldn't stop my self from writing this, although sun is in my pushkar navamsa degree in so maybe I will get something good during the period

Also, my saturn is 6th from sun which as I've heard is not so good either because it casts that "bad angle" influence during sun's mahadasha. So maybe that's the case...

lets think one thing that time is not a good or bad, if this particular time bad/wrong for us, but at the same time that particular time is good for another ..nothing is going to be really bad in our life, only ups and down in some way (what are the priority at that time), we always remerber that the more worst time that we have spent, the more joyful life ahead, Astrology only guides us for a better life, if we feel something has to be going not suitable for us, then we sit back awhile,....

My atmakaraka is Jupiter . Jupiter is in the 10th house as a Sagittarius ascendent. My Jupiter dasha doesn’t start for 10 more years but my Jupiter is vargottima. And so is my ascendent but my Jupiter is placed in aqua so i worry about my career

Hello, my Saturn dasha will be over in March 2018, Mercury (upcoming Mahadasha) is in sitting in my Ascendant. I am scorpion by ascendant and moon sign in Aquarius.. I always thought, I will rise during my Saturn Mahadasha but that's was not the case.. I suffered like hell during 19 years, though I earned some money but I lost all my happiness and it was not even good from carrier prospect as well.. If you work hard, Saturn gives you good results but throughout this Dasha I didn't accomplish much. Let's see what Mercury brings over in 2018.. Anyways, thanks for this wornderful information. I am following your videos and gaining knowledge in astrology.

I am leo ascendent with Jupiter in the 9th house in conjuction with Ketu. Jupiter is in its own sign sagitarius in the Navamasha chart in the 7th house and is in its own sign in sagitarius in 5th house of the Dreshkana chart but is debilitated in the 4th house Capricorn in the Dashamsha Chart. Does that mean a mixture of results during its Dasha? Please respond. Thanks!!!

Which Dasha is positive for you depends on your janm nakshatras. Rahu may be good for some while bad for others. Similarly, even Ketu may be good for some people and allows you to make immense progress because of it's short duration which leads to instant changes in life. Even Venus may cause harm to some. Kapiel I'm scared about something. In 2 years i'll be in ketu's maha dasha. In my natal chart its in the 4th house, with jupiter but in navamsa its in the 12th house... as navamsa is the house of fortune, and 12th house is the house of losses , will I lose things? Am I gonna be able to gain wealth or i'll become poor? :(

I can't see why - 5th house is benefic - Sagittarius is benefic and Ma's - Jupiter are friends - just need to check Sun - Mars Move that house to Ascendant Position and the others accordingly - and look at the chart as your "Mars Dasha chart" - Sun would be ruler of 5th but Jupiter Ruler of Sagittarius in Ascendant Position - thus Chart Ruler in this case - That's how I understand this to be - I would generally say that a Fab Favorable Start! I think nakshatra of planets is more important. Virgo asc , my merc in 10th gemini in star of rahu. In dashamsa me in 11 with jup. But in merc dasa was average with lots of troubles but now kethu dasa far better

Shift in work environment as 12 is different culture. Venus dasa promise happiness as it is in the star of 5th lord. U will also spend for luxuries.

Dear Kapiel , I have Rahu in 11th in Virgo a naturally advantageous position and undergoing Rahu Mahadasha. Earlier I thought this will b the best phase of my life, but not after watching this video , as sun , venus and mercury are 6 places away from Rahu , saturn and moon are 12 places away from it ,only jupiter and Mars are 10 places away,will I have lots of loss in their sub periods , I was thinking its the best dasha in my life , kindly enlighten me !

How is Saturn placed in D1, D9 & D10? Average or good Saturn will rise you to the top by making you work. Afflicted one will make you work like crazy with very slow growth.
