0:04 haha i thought he was holding a revolver threatening to shoot her if she holds her nose while jumping amazing video tho and truly appreciate your effort putting into this i like how commitment you are into this
When you (Jim) dive, it would be nice to see the whole scene including jumping in the water, floating up and getting out, not just the jump itself. Thank you.
Give us feedback on how did we do and ask for more diving tutorials in the comments below! We also recommend this DEATH DIVING tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nFgC_VDtji8.html
I am 71 year young man, your new subscriber staying in Mumbai, India and I have been diving from a 1 metre spring board for last 4 years or so. When I do a pike save as shown in RU-vid tutorials, both my nasal cavities get completely filled with water where as, as guided by you if after diving I go straight forward and come up, no water in my nose. I am immensely enjoying watching your channel and learning many new things. THANKS A LOT.
yeah, the nose clip is often falling off even if I jump headfirst from the poolside. Water in the nose is tough, I'm swimming for just 3 months and still haven't mastered exhaling in such a way that I don't get water up my nose. I do the drills and I can swim breaststroke, front crawl is 50/50. I guess, practice makes the master?
@choppinupyoblock its not really an exhale before entering its more like a brace. I'll do my best to describe the feeling. Imagine trying to blow out of your nose as hard as you can but also stop yourself from doing it.with your nose. Its kinda builds pressure in your nose where u breathe, preventing water from getting far in there. I do that before I get in and as I'm in the water. When I'm leaving, it's pretty much the same thingby the time you get up and release the pressure you shouldn't feel a thing. If u need a better explanation lmk.
Idk i never get any water in my nose beacuse when i jump as soon i get in the water i start breathing air out off my nose so the water doesn't come in to my nose. Plz can u try that solution in your next video?
To everyone, you are special Always know you are cutiful and special! Reach for your goals! be positive and do what makes you happy! You are beautiful just the way you look! I am glad you exist! Yay!
So, breathing out through the nose wasn't mentioned at all I see. Maybe at such great heights, are force the water in coming in, is too much for exhaled air to prevent, and then it's worse because your nose is then fully open because it's trying to breath out. As opposed to just blocking it from the inside (not with a hand). Maybe that's stronger. But then not even that was mentioned in this video... how do you actually recommend doing it? I watched another one of your videos, and it mentioned nothing about this subject, other than to say a video would be coming out about it (this one). So, it must not be very important... maybe.
great tips, but heres another i use, that helps A LOT! blowing bubbles through your nose when you go in the water, and go out of the water for air. you may be asking: “but i cant blow bubbles for that long, i dont have enough breath?” you ONLY blow bubbles when you go in and go out, when youre underwater water is IN your nose, but not deep enough where its stuck in, when you get out you blow bubbles, and itll get out. i hope this helped! reply to this comment if there are any questions!
I was nervous when you dove head first straight down, looks like you could actually hit your head if you did it from 10m (which is nuts bc how deep it is). Since divers don't usually do this, is water up the nose just something they're used to?
I think it’s a matter of getting used to it.. it’s probably so sensitive for people because they don’t get in the water that often. Me just being a casual swimmer.. I’ve just gotten used to it. You gotta be desensitized to it over time and that will happen the more you’re in the water.
holding your nose with your hand caused her ears to hurt from just 1 metre and he says can potentially do ear damage from higher altitudes...but using a contraption that does the exact same thing as holding your nose with your hand, somehow causes no ear pain nor damage from 10 metres. that makes no sense
Awesome video as always. I am really curious about how to make a big splash when you dive. I think that it would be a great video. Keep up the good work.
When I jump in the second my head hits the water I breath out of my nose pushing all the water out, although if you go really deep it depletes your oxygen so get a good breath of air or swim up fast.
honestly, I don't get why people can't dive into a pool without getting water up their nose just start breathing out right when you're about to hit the water
I have a question. The usage of a nose clip, even though effectively blocked the water to get inside the nose, does it put more pressure to the ears/ear canal similar when cover your nose with your hand? I mean it seems like a similar mechanic.
Well yes and no clips don't put as much pressure as your hands because when you hit the water your muscles tighten and your arm will hit the water really hard and hurt but the ear pressure still remains but it won't make your ears explode or anything unless you go really high and jump in like 15 or 20

i did hold my nose once i jumped from the 3m platform and i instantly got blood coming out of it but that was once and never again after it so for me it still works with holding my nose from 3m and 1m and every time i dive in head first there is no water coming inside it
Another way to not get water in your nose how you breathe out just do that under water so if it gets in your nose it will come out easily and also if there is no water in your nose still do it. It’s really helpful.
It hurts when water goes into ur nose because the water going into ur nose is different from the fluids in our body so it causes us pain, or something like that
it's because the water from the pool has different salt concentration from the cells in your nose. so salt from your cells want to go to the lower concentration. it's called osmosis. That's why we use hypotonic solutions to clean the nostrils.
I appreciate what you do and always that you are speaking English. This is great stuff. I understand what you mean by "exclusion" here 6:24 but the word that starts with the letter e which you were looking for is "exception". That's what we usually say when something takes place which is not is against the opposed to what usually happens. We say taht was an exception.
It seems like a lot of it has to do with the angle/position of your head I guess? I was always told "just blow air out of your nose while you jump in" but that never worked for me lol. Tysm for this video! I would assume that with diving headfirst, the key is to make sure your head is angled downward. And ofc, as he said "entry without a flip" probably helps a toooon lol
The quality of your videos are amazing! Also, is there any way to make a back flop less painful? For example, if I underspin on a front flip, will rolling into a ball make the back flop less painful. What keeps me from front flipping is the fear of back flopping 😄😄😄
I've never gotten water in my nose. Weird how people have to do this to not get water. I've never had any water get up my nose for as long as I can remember.
Just get the air out when entering the water from your nose and the pressure will keep water out your nose, no need of hand or other things, also this only work for diving cuz if you want t9 do those thing of sinc swimming then you need a thing that closes your nose
When I jump without holding nose I actually take a deep breath and hold . When I get in the water like I dived in or jumped in I exhale from my nose super hard it may take some getting used to
Why is there a 10 minute video showing people how not to do something that should be simple not to do? Haha c'mon y'all, we aren't helpless figure your s*** out
You say it's bad to hold the nose by hand because of the pressure inside (bad for the ears...), yet the nose clip that holds the nose just the same way is okay...?!
bruh i don't even feel water when i am jumping into pool like i just don't understand ppl.adn even if it hurted and i just closed my nose with hand it didn't hurt so maybe i am not very sensitive to it because my brother same doesn't get that feelling.
i thought it was a natural thing that you learn almost right after learning to swim. even before i learned to swim i just knew to just keep my mouth shut under water and close my nose pipe. like breathing with your mouth but you close your nose first but then close your mouth too
