The tanks are pristine and spotless, the fish are active and swim calmly, stop reading rules on keeping them and use your eyes. The lady knows what she's doing and her tanks are proof of this.
@Do Bo There are about 231 cubic inches in a gallon. Betta are around 2 inches long. A gallon square is just over 6.1 inches in all dimensions. A tank that is 6.1 inches wide, by 6.1 inches tall, by 6.1 inches deep, filled all the way, is 0.98 gallons. Close enough. This means that, as a cube, the gallon space is 3 times longer than the fish. So you're right. My measurement was off. The space equivalent would be 18 feet wide/tall/long. So sure. You COULD live in a room that is 18ftx18ftx18ft (324 sqft of floor space). But that doesn't mean you could do so well, or happily. Stuck in a room forever with a few fake plants and nothing else. Food being delivered through a hole in the ceiling. But the point of my post wasn't an exact comparison. It was simply about being stuck in a very small space.
@Do Bo What are the other dimensions of the tank? How deep is the water? Your betta is either stunted, or still young. They are supposed to be 2-3 inches.
OMG!!! i almost hate you for educating me in such detail. i just went to redesign my poorly designed tank and spared no cost, i feel sad that i was so misinformed before buying a betta, I've gone to a proper level to make sure my fish has a happy life, no more vase, flowing water with filtration and loads of hiding spots, THANK YOU
The saddest part is that most pet stores don’t only lie to you, but they lie to themselves! They think it’s ok and then all their betta’s look so sad and when I bring them home they still seem pretty sad or sometimes die ): I started buying betta from an actual aquarium, much nicer and not a pet store, the betta there actually look alive!
Java fern is easy to keep and grow, don’t bury the rhizome in the substrate, java fern absorbs it’s nutrients from the water column instead attach it to driftwood or rock with with fishing line or rubber-band, If you see black lines through the leaves, your plant’s not in trouble. Java ferns have black veins running through them. You also might occasionally notice black bumps, which grow new leaves. AMAZING TANKS!! AND NAILS!!💪🏻
Can't argue with anything she's saying when her tanks look that great and the fish obviously look healthy and coexisting calmly and peacefully. Great video this is really helpful. I have a 5 and one female and now know I won't start a sorority until I upgrade
Tried lecturing all those basic aquarists saying your tanks are overcrowded. They all look like they are in great condition, keep up the good work, im sure it's a handful to keep up with so many fish but your tanks looks flawless. I'm a large tank fishkeeper but I always find it interesting to check out some of the smaller tanks people set up. thumbs up cheers
This is the first time i've ever seen betta's living harmoniously together. I also originally thought that the females were more dull in colour, I stand corrected. your tanks look awesome so vibrant and lush. are the curved tanks you have 60cm?
They're actually not living harmoniously together. You can tell by their "schooling" (posturing, aka showing aggression) and constantly torn fins. They fight and they're stressed, it's not healthy for them.
killer slowpoke I got 1 of those fish and I got the same posture/behaviour with my only 1 fish in a huge tank for months... they really look healthy in those tanks for me.
There are some amazing bettas, you just need to look for those specific breeds. Most are fairly plain though. What's awesome too about female bettas is that they are also fairly cheap too compared to the males.
Wow!!! All these heavy debates about the inch of fish per gallon of water. I think your loosing sight of her purpose for her video. It's to establish a beta sorority. And she has definitely done that. With 3 tanks. Which everyone of them look amazing. The fish are calmly swimming together and they all look healthy and happy. If there was all this stress and bad water parameters it would definitely show on the fish. But their color is wonderful and so are their behaviour. The proof is in the pudding. Your tanks AND fish look amazing so keep up the videos please. I'm wanting to start a beta sorority and find your video very helpful. Thank you.
Samurai Sis well no that wouldn't be fair. big difference between betas and a flowerhorn. They are alot wider and need more room to turn and swim. that's like comparing a Volkswagen to a semi truck.
I defiantly agree with the 5 rule. I found that one way to bypass that rule (this will not always work) is with fancy guppy’s. They are non aggressive and they do well to distract the aggression in the tank. I currently have a 20 gallon long with multiple species (three female betta, three fancy guppy, pleco, and coolie loaches) space works well and guppy’s are a good distraction.
Thiese Nails are tweezers. They have many funktions like a swiss knife. These are Multifunktional Nails. Verry praktical. Livehack.Tweezers, defend weapons, decoration, and you can eat chinese food with them
For the inch of fish folks... a heavily planted, well-established tank will filter a TON of ammonia, nitrite/ates... I have a 55 gallon heavily planted that is a filtering MACHINE... weekly water tests, 60+ fish, never registers any of the three... haven't done anything but add water for evaporation in over 6 months
I personally have a sorority tank with a male in it. I agree on the 5 minimun, heavy planted 15 gallons minimun tank. But, what needs to happen is getting females with the right personalities. If they are really aggressive no mater changing the decoration, adding more plants, hidding places or a larger tank. You MUST separate them. Keep extra tanks handy in case it doesn' work out.
I’m glad I watched this, I’ve been thinking of getting some betta fish. I was planning on getting 2 female betta fish in a 10 gallon, but now i know that you need a minimum of 5 female bettas :) thanks!
Honestly, I can't say I've seen more beautiful tanks than yours, even the competition tanks aren't as nice as yours. Peace, love and keep a beautiful tank!
I know this video is old but I thank you so much for posting it because I've been hoping to have multiple bettas in a tank but definitely want to do it the proper way and I just don't want them dying on me thank you so much blessings to you
Wow, those nails 💅 Beautiful tanks. About 20 years ago pet stores always sold females out of a sorority tank. Now days, it seems hard to find females. Maybe a few in the little display bowls sometimes.
Damn. I just found your channel and saw you haven’t made a video in 10months. This was the first actually helpful video I’ve found about starting a Betta sorority. Everyone else that I’ve seen has acted smug as if they’ve achieved the impossible by doing it, and that viewers shouldn’t even try. Yours just gave helpful information on how to do it. Would love to see more videos from you!
Please keep posting videos! I would love to see a story time/how to treat video on your columnaris outbreak, a tour of the equipment/tanks you use, betta food/nutrition, & a video where you show every single one of your beautiful bettas and tell is where you got them from. 😄👍🏼
So elouquently immaculately clean pristine water... as seen on her background... yes... liked this one... hope to maintain mine a clear water... some tips... hope you can... thanks...
Those tanks are freaking beautiful. With all those plants the number of fish is just fine. African cichlid tanks are just as aggressive and heavily stocked and those often can't even have plants
Cichlids are aggressive. Most females are not. Some are. I have one that I had to separate, but the others school together and keep each other company.
So happy to see this tank had some little galaxy rasboras in it. I've been wanting to do a betta sorority super bad, but have been hesitant. One of the things that kept me from pulling the trigger is not knowing if I could house other micro fish with the sorority. I'm, sure you know but there is lots of conflicting info online 😂 I set up my first tank about 5 months ago, its a planted community tank with a male betta and it went very well.
I absolutely love your tanks. I have been trying, and pretty much failing at starting my own sorority. I learned a lot from your video above, and I mean a lot. One thing I would love to see you do a video on is quarantining. I know you can never guarantee a sick fish won't make it into your main tank, but a video to show how you try to avoid this from happening. I had some thing go through and wipe out all but 6 of my 20 bettas and I was heart broken. I have put a hold on doing anything more to the tank until I discover a better way of doing this. But I would love to see how you quarantine, your set up, what you do to the water, filtration, medications vs salt, and things of that nature to increase the likelihood of your bettas making it into your new tanks as health as possible. I can't get over how beautiful your tanks are. Awesome!!
Thank you for all the great info. I finally know why my attempts at a sorority has been failing. Not enough of them. Maybe once all my livebearers are gone, I'll try again 🤗
I got plants about 3 weeks ago (java fern and 2 anubias) and they have grown beautifully. I use no fertilizer and I'm keeping them in an aquarium starter kit for 10 gallons. The plant's leaves are spreading fabulously, you can keep plants without fertilizer and spending too much money on a light. This is working for me but you do what you do, they're your plants :)
What fertiliser you need depends on what you want to grow, Conrad. Some plants feed from the roots, some from the water column. Light intensity also depends on what you want to grow. Some plants need low light, some high.
This was In my recommendations.. Anyways imo when people are told keep 5 min or they need to school at 5 to be at least happy. I always get one more so 6 just in cause u have a casualty u still have a school. If u do 3 betas and one dies, well now it's a 1 v 1 battle royal.
I am in awe of the variety of colors and variations you have put together. Some of these are as showy as some males I've seen. Great collection. They are so healthy and happy in each tank. Very good tips also. Could watch them for hours.
Your aquariums are beautiful. Bettas are my favorite fish, I have owned them in the past successfully but now I'm struggling and don't know why. I got my two boys at Petco, one had a cloudy eye when I got him. They each had a five gallon tank. They both started to get fin rot, no matter what I tried, nothing stopped it. Since their tanks were used as quarantine they weren't cycled and they needed an established, planted tank stat. So in desperation I put the guy worst off in the guppy tank. He started doing better. Unfortunately my daughter's Betta passed at six months. We are heartbroken, he was her fishy friend, he responded to her like a doggo, knew our voices, a couple tricks. We never want to go through this again. We did everything by the book and it all went so wrong, so quickly. I feel like the industry sets us up to fail, there is so much bad info and products out there. Thank goodness for RU-vidrs like you. If I ever can bring myself to buy a Betta again, they will live as fish do, in an aquarium, with plants, and other fish, not all alone. People kept telling me not to put them in my regular community tanks, but it is actually going well. Too bad it was too late for her buddy, he was the household favorite for personality. I just don't want to risk another fish till I figure out all the misconceptions I'm still struggling with. Thanks for sharing your experience. I hope to someday have Betta fish again but from a reputable source next time.
Thank you I'm very thankful for all the other people in this hobby who I can learn from. You're video was great. I'm interested in Betta fish and love seeing the community you made for those girls. Thanks.
Hi, looking to set up a similar tank so just have a few questions. You said in the video that you have about 15 or 16 bettas in the top right tank, so your running about 1 betta per gallon (not judging at all, I'm all for overstocking) I am assuming your filtration is high (on top of the plants) just wondering what filtration you are running? Also do you think putting a clean up crew (corys and ottos) in with them would be fine? I am a little hesitant about the ottos being so small, maybe they will get picked on? Also thinking about putting in some schooling fish like cardinals or neons or rummy nose tetras, what do you think about that? love your tanks by the way, very cool and very colourful.
Wow! Absolute amazing tanks and not only are they clean and expertly aquascaped but the plants and fish are so healthy and vibrant! I've been wanting to add a sorority tank one day and I've learned an incredible amount from this video. Also, for all those didagreeing with her, not every Betta is the same and you have to allow some experience with common sense. Don't just go by "rules" but listen to people like this great lady who have a lot of experience plus get to know your fish's personality to see what works for each. I've had some unusual situations work beautifully that broke the Beta "rules".
for a 15 gallon- 6 females for a 20 gallon- 8 females for a 30 gallon- 12 females for a 40 gallon- 16 females for a 50 gallon- 20 females for a 60 gallon- 24 females for a 70 gallon- 28 females for a 80 gallon- 32 females for a 90 gallon- 36 females for a 100 gallon- 40 females Obviosly for the higher number of gallons maybe one or two more females than the limit is fine but each female should have 2.5 gallons or more.
I just luv ur plants. Most of these plants are unavailable in my country. I tried buying online but they were held in quarantine on arrival. The transaction ended there.. No disease was reported, but I didn't get my plants. Then I got a polite brush-off.
@@aquagirltalks479 did you run into issues? Just wondering, as I am cycling a 20 gallon that is intended for a sorority. I plan to have it heavily planted with a lot of filtration of course. Would love to hear your opinion as to whether the sorority will work out in the long run? Thanks so much!!
In my opinion they don’t work out in the long run. They die of stress induce illnesses between 3 months to 1 year. No fighting, just constant stress. One by one the die, every single time.
beautiful tanks, pretty betta's too. Very helpful info, just bought a 5 gallon...too late to return, so I'm gonna have to figure it out. You awesome, thanks again.
This is late, but don’t use the five gallon for a main betta sorority tank it’s way to small, I suggest putting a few shrimp in there and having it as a quarantine tank Incase a girl gets too aggressive or sick or anything
@@adalaide7443 thank you, but I actually did that. I bought a 20gallon and of course one of them started acting like a buttt-hole so now she is in her own little dorm (5gallon), starting into the 20 gallon.
Exceptions to every rule.. So if her fish are happy and vibrant and want to be together swimming together then that means you can stfu. Unless you are blind or in denial about her fish care in which case nobody wants to hear your wrong ass opinion anyway. Your fish look happy and your tanks look beautiful and great by the way. You're obviously doing something right as your fish are not sick, scared, or dying. They clearly enjoy each other and have plenty of hide spots if they want them. Thank you for sharing :)
LED lights work, but I use a florescent grow light I bought at Lowe's in the garden center. For substrate, it depends on the plant. You just need some organic soil and sand for the carpet plants. Remember that some plants do better when they're not in substrate. The third most important thing after the lights and the substrate is CO² and iron. Some plants need more CO² or iron than others so if your plant is turning brown, Most likely you need more nutrients.
I got tired of changing the cup water so frequently for timeout betta. We bought a 3 compartment breeder with removable parts that gives similar space but allows fresh water to flow through. Since it is in the tank, the other girls would (7 of them) would go visit her and desensitized her a bit. We got her to be calm for 24 hours with freedom until she realize she could hunt similarly colored females once released. She is going to a new home, but it was weeks of attempts and torn tails. The breeder compartment did allow us to release our male into the 20g with the girls. He visited but once any female began barring, he became territorial of his bubble nest. An alternative to cups anyway. Great tanks and your girls have no stress stripes and beautiful color. Well done.
would maybe 10 in a 50 gallon tank work? I have a 50 gallon tank and would love betta fish maybe even some shrimp I know it's risky but I'm willing to try
Alexandra Ross not 100% sure on this, but they say each beta should have 2-2.5gallons of water to itself. Your potential arrangement sounds like it should be okay.
I’ve never been interested in female betta’s because from what I’ve seen they all seem to be dull and brown but yours are so lush and vibrant, just likes the males betta’s. Where can I find betta’s like these so I can start my own sorority.💙💙💙
I dont know where you live but anywhere can have pretty female bettas... i have a dark blue, a light blue/ turquoise, a white and red, and a red and purple female. I have four in a 10 gallon and they do very well with each other. The two females with red are more dominate. All of mine are from Pet Smart 🤷🏼♀️ pretty simple.
I hope you know the only reason most females are dull and brownish colored is because there sick and not living under the right conditions that will give them thier Color
Wow i wish i would have found your channel much sooner, how have i not came across you until now?!?!? Great video and your tanks look great, been thinking of starting a sorority, just got my first female recently after always having male community tanks with other specie of 🐟. Thanks for this very helpful starter video on female sororities
Sooooo my betta fish (blue crowntail with red front fins) his name was bubble and my sister had another betta fish i went on a trip with school for few days and my sister decided instead of wasting electricity running a filter for a tank she put my fish with her fish and her fish killed my fish. Now i want a sorority tank. Idk why
Banana plant, hornwort, valisinaria plants, dwarf Lily, bucephilandria, if available in your area cabomba and anacharis (New York state has them listed as invasive and not for sale)
Yesterday I went to petco and bought 5 female babies while making sure they had egg spots. They're all together in a 30g and are getting along great. There are also 4 guppies in there who have also adjusted well.
I was wondering, how you can work with these nails. I always cut them short, because I can´t even close the buttons of my jeans If they are too long O.O but maybe I´m just not talented xd
Java fern usually doesn't do well if you fully submerge the roots in the substrate. Try having it with roots slightly above the substrate, or attached to a piece of rock/wood.
I bought two beautiful female bettas and they already were in a sorority when i bought them. I put them in a 10 gallon tank with some guppies, neons and corydoras; there's quite a lot of fish. They always stay together, i have never seen two bettas this close, they stress sometimes when they go to the middle of the tank with the guppies but else when the go behind that sponge filter and the decos, they lose their stress strips. I am still planning to do a betta sorority and put them there so they have a lot of places to swim, maybe in a month i will buy a 15 gallon tank - because i need to buy a 20 gallon for the baby guppies first- and buy 3 more bettas with some java fern, anubius and the grass looking like plant (I like it , makes great hiding place). EDIT: Typo
Female betta aren’t usually aggressive the way males are. Some are, but it’s mostly about individual personality. I also have a sorority. They school together when scared and coexist naturally and peacefully. No fighting. No flaring. I had one aggressive female one time. She’s now in a community tanks like a male fish would be. Don’t spout out opinions as if they are facts. It’s not only rude, but ignorant. Do be “that guy”😉
@@crankyboiy caauusseee that a way to kill all your fish, she saying that she knows what to do and how to but yet if she did she would of known that the tanks was highly overstock
@@troylinden369 yes true, I live in Asia and if peoples know how the wild betta live, their live is so far from a tiger life, small area, muddy, and always in danger.
I’m kinda worried about how many fish you have in each tank. The golden rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per gallon of tank. If most betta reach 2 inches, and your tanks are 15 gallons, then that would be like 7 or 8 fish. It looks like you have way more than that. Plus with all the plants and decoration, that lessens the amount of water in the tank which lessens how many fish there can be. You seem to know what your doing, but your 15 gallon looks crowded. Edit: All of y’all need to chill oml I was just making an OPINION. I have seen some pretty retarded replies. Most of them have a pretty good argument tho, so ty for replying or else I wouldn’t learn. I would like to say that what I was saying was that each fish in the tank should be able to have its own gallon to itself if it wanted to get away from the other fish. Even with her tank heavily planted it almost looks impossible for a fish to get away from the other fish. And with that I will be referring to the top right tank. I myself do not have a large tank with many fish so what would I know right? She can do what she wants, since it’s clear her fish seem ok and clean. It’s just my opinion that it would be sad for a beta to be confined so closely to other fish or even other beta.
Well that’s obvious, but I’m talking about betta fish NOT fish of that size. This is a betta fish video, so I’m specifically talking about betta fish, and/or fish of the same size. Clearly I couldn’t put a 10 inch fish in a 10 gallon, and to even think that that’s what you interpreted is hilarious.
I understand what your saying, but it’s kinda a perfect rule for betta fish. It ensures that each fish will be able to have its own space. Her fish however are clustered together in a heavily planted 15 gallon tank(I am aware heavily planted tanks are perfect for bettas), and the more things that are in the tank the less gallons of water you have. I’m simply implying that FOR BETTA FISH it is a good rule to go by. I myself do not have a community tank, so I don’t have room to talk, but I am educated enough about fish to know she has too many fish in that tank. The top right one to be exact. I don’t see an issue in the other two.
Just got a forty gallon tank and a subsricption to the channel! Thanks for posting these videos to help us fledgling rookie aquarians learn about keeping a tank!
Bettas aren’t the best option for a community tank. It doesn’t matter what gender the betta is, even though females are less aggressive than males, they still have the muscle to deal or even fight another betta. Bettas are very territorial, and each betta should have 2.5 gallons each and that’s only the minimum. Plus, your tank looks cramped with aggressive fish.
Leonor, to actually answer your question: yes, that's far too many fish for the tanks that they're in. There should really only be one fish per each of those tanks. And even though the amount of fish reduces aggression, it doesn't get rid of it. These fish should only be kept in solitude.
Nothing has been posted on this channel for a year. Perhaps they abandoned him for other, more personal interests. Good luck and see you. 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠🐠
