I won a goldfish at my local fairgrounds during June for 10 bucks by me getting it in the hole. I brought it home and I put it on my tank. It was really healthy, despite the heat that came along with it. He has a white "muzzle" and is still alive today, living a happy and great life. Without us, he could have gotten sick and exhausted from the heat and could have died, we brought him into a air conditioned environment with a tank already ready for them.
I’m glad you taught me more about gold fish I won a gold fish at a pumpkin patch and was so happy and proud that I won the game and I was able to save the fish I put the fish in a already existing tank with other fishes I let in sit in the bag for a while and released it and it lived for a year I was sad when it died but glad I gave the fish a better home
My daughter and I won 4 goldfish today at the Carolina Classic Fair, just got home with them and about to get our 20 gal tank filled with filtered fridge water. Will have to get the temp to at least 70deg now. Thanks for the informative video!
Looks like this was yesterday but I have to say that your fridge filter may not remove all the chlorine or chloramine from your water so you still should treat it with a good water conditioner like Prime. I’ve tested my fridge filter and it did not remove it very well. I hope your fish do great! Mine are still around and the biggest one is around 7-8” long.
I’m happy I came across your video here. I had my nephews that went to a carnival a week ago and got 12 free goldfish that the carnival was closing. So I got a tank, filter, etc. but was curious how to take care of these fishes since this was my first time owning fishes. But this is so much helpful about what to do, I’ve been researching a lot
Those fish are incredibly lucky to have found you! Most people wouldn't care that much, since most people see goldfish at carnivals as just a 'novelty'. I'm glad your putting so much effort into taking care of your water puppies, best of luck! :)
@@wandereringshadow8658 no bc I started crying because I bought 7 and their water was nasty when I got them and they all died today but two in the morning im seeing if they survive I did the salt trick because I need to go get the stuff tomorrow :(
thank you for sharing. I just had a good fish die two days ago. I have one left. I bought a plastic container on Amazon with a filter. It does get yucky often. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you.
I had 2 fair goldfish for 2 years until one decided to jump out, and one hurt his fin, it got infected and eventually killed him even after trying all sorts of medicines. I was super proud of how the survived, and they were very pretty fish!
I got a fish from the carnival and on the first night we had him, he would only swim in circles and kept tipping on his side. I spent around three to four hours trying to keep that fish upright. Eventually his condition sorted itself and we got a good tank for him. The only thing that killed him in the end was a tank ornament that fell on him. It was lightweight but not light enough for him to get out from underneath, and I don't know how it fell over, but it did. It happened while I was asleep so I couldn't save him this time :(
My son won a common goldfish like 3 years ago and the SOB still going strong. 💪 He named him "Robbie" after his favorite NFL kicker Robbie Gould. 😂 My only issue or concern is his growth. Damn fish went from half an inch to 4 inches and still growing.
These have been here around 3 years now. The original one died recently but the other 2 are huge and one is 10 inches. They're going to move to a 75 gallon so the biggest one can turn around easier.
Thanks! I just checked out your channel. Comments are turned off there, but I wanted to say keep on making those videos! I've never had cory cats breed so that was interesting.
My daughter won a Carnival fish yesterday. We bought the little tank instead of them giving us a bag. Today we bought a 20 gal and are establishing the water. Unfortunately the fish keeps going to the top I’m assuming for oxygen. Nervous it won’t last another 24 hours in that tank. The fish was already 2.5 inches so it’s not gonna fair well in that little tank.
I don't know what I would do without a test kit. I've kept fish for 30 years in a 29-gallon with mixed results not knowing about the nitrogen cycle. That changed a couple years ago. For the last few years I've had goldfish in a 55-gallon. I have 5 shubnkin, 2 fantails and a butterfly telescope goldy. I recently bought a 75-gaIlon to transfer them as the largest fish are over 6". I have lots of Amazon swords and pothos clippings to help with ammonia as well as some decor from the old tank. Even some bottled bacteria, but the filter was new. When I got to 4 fish the nitrites spiked. I waited a week for it to balance and added another. It took me a month of adding bacteria, water changes, etc. before everyone moved out, but without testing I might easily have lost some fish. Now I have an empty 55-gallon that's fully cycled that as of yesterday, has 4 female bettas, 6 harlequin rasboras, a bristle nose pleco and 3 rainbow paecox. Looking forward to adding other small schooling fish and given it's planted and cycled I have more freedom to go crazy than ever before.
That’s good stuff that other fish keepers could learn from. My usual approach is to have lots of excess area for good bacteria to grow and I don’t see spikes as I add fish unless the pH drops to 6 or less and then the good bacteria are a lot less active. Hope you enjoy your new setup!
@@surrealmeme8344 does it matter what emoji someone chooses to use? It's subjective, they said they're upset that's all that matters so stop making them feel worse because of what emoji they used 😂 or should I have used 🥲?
I have a 55-gallon tank with 3 feeder goldfish that are about 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 and a few placostamis that are about 5 inches long. we just got 2 new tiny little fancy goldfish that are less than an inch long and an albino catfish that is also less than an inch long they are getting along well and I know I need to switch their food but they are getting floating flakes I AM SWITCHING you are not supposed to feed them floating food because they will golp up air and it is bad for them for obvious reasons
Thank you for your video. We just won two goldfish at the carnival and I didn't think about how we would care for them. And now I need help. Can I take them to a friends pond who has larger goldfish? Should I get a large tank? What if I buy a large tank and then they die. Help!
I don’t know if large pond goldfish would eat the small ones you won, but maybe your friend has an opinion on that. Most fish will eat any fish they can fit in their mouths, so that’s a valid concern. You could start with a 10 or 20 gallon tank and you can get it cheap by buying used on something like Facebook marketplace. If they do well. you can move up to a larger tank later. They’re really fun fish to watch and I like them a lot more than I expected. Good luck to you and I hope it all works out!
At 07:15, what is the plant you have attached to the top of your sponge filter? I was looking to add a few plants to my teen's Black Moor tank and I like the way your plant looks on the sponge.
That's Java moss. I have it all over the place. These days, they don't have that in their tanks, but I do have some sort of Hygrophilia species with them and they seem to leave it alone. You can see it in the follow-up video to this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YAqCBP9sdRc.html. It can be hard because they will eat some plants.
We won a gold fish at the carnival. Completely unplanned. I have no idea how to take care of it, I've never had fish before. I thought we'd just grab a cheap bowl and some pretty rocks. Imagine my surprise when I saw how much Angel (my 8 year old named her) actually needs. Hopefully she lives because as soon as she got home we dumped her in a random bowl of water (it was late) until we could get to the pet store. Then I googled it and yeah... you're not supposed to do that.
I hope it worked out but if not then the key to fish keeping is to keep trying. Goldfish get really big. My largest from this video is now 10 inches long.
Was the SALT removed from the tank when you put the medicine in? I want to put the salt in with the medicine to make sure the fish stay healthy but I'm not sure how that would affect the fish.
The salt was still there. It would have gradually disappeared over the course of several partial water changes. I don’t keep salt in my tanks except to treat illness. I also quarantine new fish so that diseases can’t get in.
Its been a month since I won one. The dude that as doing it was pretty nice even tho I missed he gave me a goldfish. He got home and I got him in those same tiny containers. I left him there for 3 days. The water got dirty. But on the third day he got a 5.5 gallon tank. I got him a comet goldfish freind. they are alive its been a month. I won another goldfish that didnt have a top fin and was dying. wich died on the ride home
Yesterday I won a goldfish named him moxxie so I wanna see if this will help take care of him he's a little bigger then my middle finger so I thought it would be smart to get the biggest tank size they had which isn't that big but better than a bag or small one(I spent $20 to get them I had to spend 15 for the biggest tank they had for them to put him in there instead of a bag or small tank and 5 for the ping pong balls to win him I'm working on getting him a bigger tank currently now I'm going to watch the video)
My daughter won a fish. Then I looked into how to care for it and realized how much go's into a gold fish. And now I just feel bad that the fish is suffering. I bought a small fish tank that's for Beta fish and put rocks and a spongebob house in it. And so stuff to treat the water. But that's no where near what it needs, so I just feel like I'm torturing this fish. Then it also got me thinking about all the other poor carnival fish.
Ok so we won one,i had a tank got gravel used bottled n filtered water didnt wait 24 hrs bcz i djdnt hv anything else to put it in my son got it in a plastic bag n he's heavily on the spectrum,so i dod what i could when i could. Its been almost 24 hrs in there now n has eaten 3x so far. It interacts w me. Im worried bcz i hv to wait to be able to gt the rest of the supplies 😫
Go really easy on the food at first. My opinion is that once a day is plenty when you don't have an established tank. Also you should only feed what the fish will eat in 5 minutes. More food going in means more ammonia going out. I hope it works out for you!
I have a 🐢 and got 10 common gold fish thinking the turtle 🐢 would eat them. She ate one . Now I have 9 comen gd fish growing I now have a 75 fallen tank and Thay are thriving . But my tank is continuing to be cloudy. My biggest fish is 3 in long . Help me.😁
You've got a lot there with a turtle and 9 goldfish. My 3 goldfish are in a 55 gallon with lots of filtration, though they are bigger than yours.. What filtration do you have?
I just won two little goldfish at the fair. A part of me wants to just leave them in a little 5 gallon tank. My stupidly big heart isn’t letting me though. I’m about to buy a 100 dollar tank for these little guys
Keeping white cloud mountain minnows with goldfish is a myth. Goldfish get several times larger and eventually eat the white clouds. Not because they are angry fish. Quite the opposite is true. Just because they are much larger.
Great comment, thanks, Now that mine are large, I can see where that would be a problem. I was listing out other cold water fish that are compatible with the temperatures. Fish will eat anything that fits in their mouths. All 3 of these are 8-10” long now and they are hungry.
I hope you mean ornamental ponds rather than regular wild ponds. For an ornamental pond, like a large plastic container that’s at ground level or where you line a hole with rubber, you may have to bring them inside each winter depending on where you live. But I’m no expert on keeping goldfish outside.
It's actual name Is a Comet Goldfish They're all the same There is no koi. Koi are very expensive Even small ones Sir you did right by these fish I sold fish to carnival games For 40 years I'm now 70 years old And most people take them home Put them in a jar They do not know you need A dechlorinator So right there With tap water That's the end of the fish No matter if it was sick when you got it Or not Like I said You did good but most people don't
I don't know but that seems like it might be a better kind of fish to win than a goldfish that will get quite large. I'm sure the reason you normally get goldfish is that they are very cheap when small.
Am I the only one that thinks this game is wrong? Lol. Just throwing fish at people that might not be capable of accepting one…I know it’s just a fish but sheesh lol
There are definitely a couple ways to look at this. Yes many of the fish aren’t going to make it. But also some will make it and it might be the thing that gets a kid (or the parent) interested in the hobby. I wanted to make this video because I know it’s hard for someone with no experience to suddenly take on caring for a new goldfish and there’s a ton of bad information out there.
