I watched this 3 months ago and have kept a journal ever since. I have a hard time going into the details, since I don't consider myself a musician. But that's not a problem, working on the technical stuff is an achievement in itself.

i’m an adult beginner. i started playing during the pandemic for stress relief. my own practice journal is a bit scattered because i’m not sure what to put in it. thank you for the helpful suggestions 🙂

When do you take your lesson notes, like do you write during lessons or how long after lessons? I’m a adult violin beginner for 4 months, and I’m thinking about taking lesson notes too because I realized I may forget my teacher’s specific suggestions and points for what to work on when practicing, BUT the thing is for a beginner so many things are going on in my brain in a lesson that sometimes I can only remember some of them when I try to take a quick note on my phone on the way home ksjaksjks😂

What I do is I record the audio (and sometimes video) for all of my lessons, with my teacher's permission of course. After my lesson, I listen to the recording and write down everything important from the lesson in a notebook. I used to write the notes within the lesson, but it takes up more time in the lesson and every minute is valuable so writing the notes after ensures you get the most out of your lessons. I recommend asking your teacher if they are okay with you recording your lessons. If you write everything down afterwards, you are more likely to focus on it within the next week and do well in your next lesson. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Yeah I did quite a bit of journaling at one point and had trouble figuring out how to use it and stick with it. It's all about customizing it so that it serves you in the best way possible!
