Hi Helen!! Awesome share…I love everything about this… I realize that my “glue book journals” are my “illustrated journals”! An amazing revelation! Bless you Helen, and thank you for your creativity 🥰💕🌸

Oh that's so cool! 😎 I think these terms are all interchangeable to a certain extent. I think the journaler gets to choose what term they use about their own work. I've heard people call them an illustrated journal and a visual diary. I can see how it would work as a glue book too. Thanks for sharing this as I think other viewers may relate to your definition of the glue book.

Oh my goodness….by the end of this video, I was emotional. I have been trying to memory keep for several years now and it was beginning to feel stale and unintentional. I was becoming unsatisfied. You have given me so much to think about, use and be brave towards in my journaling. I’m so sorry for your loss. I can not even imagine. My husband of 36 years is my best friend. We recently had a health scare which made me want to hang on to every tiny moment. It’s the reason I started my memory journals again. Your video gave me the inspiration to rethink how I journal. I love the visual journaling process you describe. Prayers for you as you walk out this journey of grief.

I'm so glad my video got you thinking. I really do think that keeping these memories is important! Even more so now. I'm sorry to hear about the health scare. As you say, such events often lead to heightened awareness. Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Helen: Your illustrated journal looks great! Every page means something to you. Any of your drawings could be used in a book. I don’t think you should call them childish. Fun project and you should be proud. Many more pages to come as you remember things. Hope you can gain more confidence. 💜😎🇺🇸

I also watch Kellie’s videos, probably on your recommendation. Your drawings are better than you think, not at all childlike. Few of us are blessed with the natural ability to draw realistically, and every artist says practice, practice, practice is what develops our skills. I love that you’ve felt comfortable enough to share your illustrated journal and all the wisdom it’s bringing to you. (PS - Joe is always with you, just in a different form.) 😘

I think that's it Trish, I've finally found the courage to practice! Thank you for your kind comments about my work. Kelly's videos are so wonderfully instructive, I feel lucky to have found them. P.S. I agree with you about Jo, thank you.

Ah, thank you so much! Yes, there aren't as many Brits crafting on RU-vid as those from the USA so it's always nice to find others. ❤️

All you said was spot on Helen. Life is made up of the smaller day-to-day activities, not just those high points. I have a wonky memory (and it's not just because I'm past my 60's!) Maybe 10 years ago I got into junk journaling and started creating visual/diary journals -- a mixture of documenting as well as magazine cut-outs, photos, ephemera, etc. Reading back through those I'm amazed at what I wouldn't have been able to remember if it wasn't documented. My goal these days is to capture the ordinary. . . what kinds of things are we eating, what brands are we buying, what does a routine day look like for me right now. I also plan on taking photos of my fridge inside, medicine cabinet, drawers, our car, etc. and create a book of Now (suggested by Gretchen Rubin, writer/podcaster). I love your book and was inspired to venture into some drawing. Thanks so much!

I'm so glad the video inspired you Sandi. And I absolutely love that you have been keeping a visual diary. It sounds wonderful. I love the idea of a book of the Now too! I'm going to look that up and the podcast you mentioned. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

Hi Helen! I think your illustrated journal is delightful, and you can TOO draw! I can tell, because, if I say so myself, I'm quite good at drawing (you'll have to take my word for it! 😁). The more you do it, the better you will get. I loved the "Favourite Autumn Things" page! The "Dogs make a life" page reminded me of one of my favourite quotes - it's an Aboriginal Australian proverb: *"Dogs make us human"*, and I think there is a profound truth there about mankind's best friend, and our millennia-long association. Not to mention, I love dogs! 🐕(I was always a cat person, until my arm was twisted to take on a particular dog, and I adored him! He was a Staffie, and I used to enjoy the sight of grown men leaping out of my way in terror, when I took him out!) The point you make about future generations is so true - I would LOVE to have something like this from any of my grandparents or great-aunts and uncles, and it would not matter a jot how skilled they were at drawing and collaging! I don't actually keep any kind of personal journal, but I do write about, and sometimes illustrate, things I am interested in. Perhaps I should do it a bit more. Anyway, I'll stop rambling now, and wish you all the best!

Oh that is funny about the staffie. Most people don't realise that staffies have the gentlest of souls and are big bundles of love. I do like cats too, all animals really. But we've always had dogs in the family so I've wound up being a dog person. I do love my little cockapoo and that proverb you mentioned. It means a lot to hear that my drawings are heading in the right direction from someone who can draw. With your drawing skills, I really encourage you to create something like this for future family and for yourself. It's a wonderful thing to leave behind and it's a lot of fun to create!

@@journalingplanet Yes, staffies love people - Ernie would have been more likely to lick a burglar to death than anything! Thanks for the encouragement! Edit - rogue apostrophe.
