I never even thought of make up brushes. I've just been blowing the dust off on a weekly basis but it always left me dizzy and this is the perfect solution so i went to coles and got the exact same 4 piece brushes as yours for $20. I was suprised they were identical as i live in Australia. Thanks for the tip mate.

The best advice. I just ran to my makeup drawer and found 2 brushes i never used and cleaned all my crystal figures and 2 hummels. What a great idea. Quick, easy and safe.

Omg thank you, I googled “how to dust collectibles” because it’s been driving me crazy for YEARS that no matter how much I try to dust collectibles with a microfiber cloth there’s ALWAYS grooves or nooks that the cloth can’t reach and this works amazing. My things look brand new and it was super quick, way faster than all the toiling with a cloth that wasn’t getting the job done right. :)

I tend to use an old feather duster that I found at an estate sale, it's very gentle and gets into surprisingly small spaces because of the little plumes or whatever on each feather. makeup brushes sound like a great, inexpensive way to help preserve figures as well, I appreciate this video

Amazingly, I haven't seen much discussion about dusting in the collector groups. I started using makeup brushes when I collected sixth scale figures and found that they work great. Cool to see someone else using them ( : For a while, I used compressed air cans to supplement and sort of finish off my dusting. Besides not lasting long and losing pressure after only a few moments, the initial pressure is too severe and I actually blew some paint fleck off my Sideshow Rogue One Darth Vader PF. Couldn't believe it. I've since switched to a small, handheld electric air duster and it works great. The air pressure is plenty; not enough to cause damage, but enough to do the job - and it produces consistent air flow for up to 15 minutes of continuous use.

I love having an electric blower for cleaning out electronics. Now, I've just started thinking about displaying my statues. The big two reasons I haven't done so yet are dust and UV light. It's funny, dust is the big, obvious thing that kept me from getting into this before now. As for UV light, it seems it's not that big of a concern as long as there's no direct line of sight to the sky, they're not right next to bulbs, and you aren't using florescent lights.

@Krolshi
@Krolshi Год назад
@@hudson_826 As far as I can tell they still look fine; they are second hand too tho, lol I will say that I did accidentally kinda wipe down too hard on some of the bases eith a q tip (there were give or take 6 month's worth of dust) and scratched it a bit. So if anything, just be super gentle when cleaning them up 💀

i'm not a collector for figurines but i do have a tendency to collect pretty items and decorations for shelves and workdesks. i never really had the know-how for dusting or cleaning (how often, with what for different items) and i got annoyed for not figuring it out as i'm not the smartest on finding things by myself.... soo i never decorated for real, which was a shame. so this was a great great help!! thank you so much. i can finally start with my own cleaning routine for the items i like :)

Perfect suggestion, thanks a lot :) I've been struggling to dust my figures - after my initial attempts with the swiffer you showed at the beginning a year ago, I changed to other methods. Usually I used a microfiber tissue and on parts where it gets stuck, I used cans of pressured air. I got some from my father and some from a nice deal. Now that I've reached the last can I was wondering if there was a better method, which are more environment friendly and less waste producing than those cans... and yesterday I got the idea of getting some brushes! I was going to buy some bigger paint brushes but then thought I should first check out other ideas and first search result was this video, which made me go "of course!" So tomorrow I'll get some make-up brushes!

I use EcoTools make-up brushes. Nice, comfortable wooden handle. Excellent bristle quality(soft with nice snap). Doesn't break the bank. *Swiffers are dangerous. They WILL eventually snag your statue. *Dust Off(canned air) is risky. The condensation that can sometimes come out of the can is really bad for the paint job(pitting).

I also whack my brushes (brushing them out). Sometime dust will collect on the bristles and if you don’t smack them out occasionally, you transfer the sticky dust from one statue to another. I also crank the air purifier to max to suck up all those floating dust motes in the air before they can resettle on another surface. Dust is definately a downer for this hobby. More statues you have, more dusting you do.

Moducases removes about 95% of the need to dust. To me if you have expensive pieces such as in the video, it is well worth it and in your means to get some. Just my opinion. I have 2 so far and its the best investment ever.

Best comment on this video. I second this. Moducase ftw. If you can afford this hobby, you can afford a moducase.

Some dust you cant see with the naked eye. When you use a black light WOW amazed the amount of dust you see 😅

Good advice, to be honest dust is inevitable, just have to keep battling! I've encountered some dust that is actually stuck to glass or figures... I wonder how that happens? I have to use some product and wipe it off as the brushes don't work on that type of dust.

I use a rechargeable air mattress inflator to blow away some dust before I use the makeup brushes and run a air purifier
