What an awesome setup! I have done a very similar setup myself, using a flow bin for mullet here in Australia. I was wondering if you have ever had the tails of your live baits go red? This is happening often to mine and i am unsure about how to control it.
Hi Tom... Yes we had that problem.. 2 things that causes that.. 1 when we collect live mullet we try and keep the session under 2 hours.. So try and get the live bait quickly into ur flowbin.. 2 try and add another skimmer a second skimmer helped me get rid of waste quicker.... Hope this helps good luck with the live well
Love this video . I am from mosselbay .I also have a fish tank at home with a sump under the tank to keep my live bait in. The uv light does it help a lot with water clarity and how does it work .. i also have problem with live bait bitetting each other ? Have you ever seen this ? And how to you keep your livies a live in the fish tank . Same system ?
Hi Ian.. The uv light helps kill all bacteria keeping water clear and I believe it helps with tail rot also... As far as mullet biting each other haven't had that problem hey.
Very good question... I normally do a complete water change every month... Or half water change with fresh water... If u go bigger sump then u don't have to change water that often
Thanks.. Can't cotroll temps at the moment.. Looking at installing a chiller for the warmer month ahead.. Salt water and top up with fresh tap water... Dry bread
Let's say you keep the mullet for two weeks in the tank and then fish with the mullet after two weeks ,when you throw the mullet into the sea water does it not die because it can not acclimate quick enough?
No the mullet survives when back in the sea... Had mullet in the live well for 2months then used them and caught kob with them... They extremely hardy live bait
Every time i take out bait i use that water, and then top up with tap water, and do a complete water change every month, the mullets are hardy they can survive in fresh water
