Hi Scott. My introduction to verbena came last year when I dropped and cracked my 10 " hanging basket 😒 I grabbed some old pots and quickly repotted the plants to save their lives, til I replaced the bigger pot. (two petunias, one verbena). What a surprise I got with the verbena! I'd never really considered the individual plants in combo pots before that day. This one was purple and just floored me with it's beauty. I ended up getting a white one to add to it and pow! what a showy mix that was. Part of my early morning routine was coffee and deadheading 😀So worth it!

Thank you! I’ve never been successful with verbena..it’s always the first thing to NOT have any flowers left…just long green stems with no flowers. I guess I will be more attentive with the dead heading. Very good video.

I've been gardening for years. This is the first time I tried Verbena. We've had an overabundance of rain here lately and even though I have the Verbena in a raised bed, it simply looks sad. The soil drains well and everything I plant in that bed blooms like crazy. I read where , like Caladiums, you should never water overhead, but from the ground, to avoid saturating the blooms. That's fine, but obviously I can't reroute rain water...lol. They're not dead, but it seems once the blooms get rainwater on them, they fizzle out. Maybe I'm just spoiled with Supertunia's , I don't know. I'm going to deadhead the rain saturated blooms and see what I can do to retrieve it, however, more rain is on the way later this week.

I relandscaped using Verbena Tapien plants. They were beautiful last year growing to 3 feet in diameter and had blooms all summer and a wonderful spring bloom this year. Then they all seemed to be dying from the center out. I now realize the flowers only grow on new growth so all the flowers are on the periphery of the plants. I have tried cutting back to the main root stalk but I think I was too late. How far back should I have cut these in the fall so that the new growth would come back this year?

Trying verbena and bidens for the first time. They have similar habit. Do I deadhead bidens the same way?
