Thank you for putting this info out there!! It is essential for Berner owners to know and understand this. And I've seen it time and again, but please to all Bernese owners, DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT ever get your Berners shaved or hair trimmed back for the summer. As Stacy mentioned, keep the undercoat cleaned out instead. Their coat is how the regulate their internal temperature. Manage keeping your Berner cool in the a/c as much as possible, shorter potty breaks, stay away from mid-afternoon sun, early morning or night time walks, a kiddie pool of cool water and always have cool, fresh water for them around exercising. Did I say NO shaving???

Stacy words cannot express how great your short training videos are and how useful they are in training our new girl Bryn. She is our 4th Berner and I have never started training so young - at 9 weeks. Even out breeder Maureen Greaves is impressed. Seeing how you trained Hasey showed what is possible with a young Berner. Bryn is now 14 weeks and knows her name, comes when you call her, can sit, down, stand, shake a paw, touch, wait, crawl and I am now adding the come command as per your videos. The touch command is so helpful on walks. Your videos showed what is possible and indeed it is possible. Thanks

Thanks! I'm in Arizona and adopted a large breed puppy, black, thick coat, so this is very helpful.

Great information!! Love the thermometer! I have a wire crate. North Carolina weather near the Mountains is ideal for them. Early a.m walks and evening walks.🐾❤

Are their temperatures taken rectally? We're getting our boy in about 6 weeks so I'm working on my shopping list. It is HOT in San Diego lately so this was great timing for this video

Yes, rectally. The cool coats with Valor Visions (link in the comments of the video) are awesome!

I live in Mississippi. It get very hot here and extreme humidity. My central unit stays on 65° all year round. Stick a plastic Tropicana filled and frozen. Will keep the water colder. Doesnt weigh much and he will always carry stuff LOL

Hi Stacy, where do your dogs sleep at night? You mention metal crates, we have a custom built wood and metal crate, my dog ( he’s just turned 2 years) chooses to go there throughout the day and has slept in his crate since the day I brought him home. I just worry that he can’t stretch completely fully although the crate is 60 inches by 40 inches. My dog in on the extra large tall and long side! (He can sit up without touching the top and turn around, also lay with legs out straight) Thank you for your tips and training. I’ve found them to be so helpful.

I have wire crates that are 42" long for my dogs when I travel and am crate training. My dogs sleep on my tile floors in the bathroom or kitchen once they are about 9/10 months old and can be trusted. Although...Chase sleeps on my bed

SitStay with Stacy Slade thanks, I’m going to see if I can encourage him to sleep outside of his crate as I have laminated flooring 🤞🏼

SitStay with Stacy Slade 😆 as I’m replying to you he has taken himself to his crate 😊so I think you’re right. Just curious as everyone else I know with Bernese they sleep in the kitchen.. I guess my boy just likes his private bedroom. Thank you again. 🐾

Hi Stacy. Love your videos. I really like your green cooling coat but can’t seem to find any online. Where’d you get it? I’m looking for something simple without the glitter and bling 😉 thanks in advance!

How often to brush?
@SitStaywithStacySlade
@SitStaywithStacySlade 2 года назад
I use an undercoat rake when they are losing coat as I dry ( with a dog dryer). Otherwise a bath/dry every 4-6 weeks is perfect.

NO WIRE CRATES EVER. SO DANGEROUS. Using a plastic crate in first weeks to learn a few house rules. BUT just know dogs die everyday in those cheap wire crates. They CAN try to escape and get their neck stuck and die(other tricks they can do as well)
@talesfromtheleashbernieamy1960
@talesfromtheleashbernieamy1960 4 года назад
Further explanation.....Berners are meant to be with their family or person. They are a breed that should NEVER let alone all day.
@SitStaywithStacySlade

Amy Hoo wire crates can be very safe for dogs. I’m sorry you have had a bad experience. If you are concerned you can always use a metal crate like Impact or East Coast. Using crates for containment at bed time in the same room is ideal and not cruel. Plastic crates can be fine if cool temperatures are kept.
