Been using a usb power bank and small fan … stays nice and cool. When I first got my LR4, it took forever to lock in satellites. Fly woo said up to 30 sats. I rerouted the GPS module to the top of my battery with Velcro, between the two battery straps. Also shielded the wires with copper tape. Now, I always get at least 25 satellites and many times 33 satellites. Super fast too. I don’t really need the fan. I was a little worried about GPS damage in a crash. I don’t really crash that often , so I took a chance. It has been great so far. Module stays with the battery straps when changing … super easy. A few days ago, I lost connection while mountain surfing. I was just turning to surf down. Lost video. Hit GPS rescue a little late and lost it. At the top of Provo Peak , 11,007 feet. 3000 feet up and 1 1/2 miles away , late in the afternoon. I was so sad. My brother and I hiked to the summit the next day and found it. I couldn’t have located it without the help of a Marco Polo tag and locator. It led me to my quad in 10 minutes on the top of a mountain. It wasn’t cheap, but it has saved my quads many times. Turn it on and find your way to the tag up to 2 miles away. Totally brutal hike, but no one got hurt and we came back with the quad. GPS was fine! Didn’t even lose a prop. I did lose a battery that was draining all night. Checked things out … flies perfectly. I have flown so many killer , remote places with this little drone. I’ve had so many drones, but this one has given me more fun than any of them. GPS on top … a great mod. They say laughter is the best medicine. A good day of FPV at a cool place can also do wonders. Love this shit . Never going to grow up. Have fun in the air!
I was using a powerbank for the same purpose. The problem is that the plugs have finite insertions so I tend to use a fan with a battery. Also I have plastic caps on UBS's so it is an extra hassle. Also some new controllers can stop the power to vtx completely with a switch.
Cool tip my friend i guess if u use a 3.3 volt pad or a 5 volt pad u can do the same as well.., I have yet to put a gps on one of my quads but I plan on doin it on my next build...thanks for the tip 🫡 subscribed
Typically that's not the case. Perhaps on a tiny whoop, or something that would use a little 5V VTx? But anything that would fly with 4-6 cell would have isolated power rails for VTx's that don't feed off a 5V USB input.
