I have come to learn that Heat is the most effective treatment. I used the Mr. Heater propane convection heater and a fan to heat a room. This heater is rated up too 80,000 BTU's of heat output which is twice what my home furnace is rated to. It didn't take long to heat up the room. Once I got the temperature up to 130 degrees, I left it like that for 3 hours. I have not seen anything even close to alive after this treatment. I also had a completely empty room as I got rid of everything in the room. Before the treatment, I only found 5 bed bugs that were alive and 20-30 dead ones on the floor or caught in spider webs under my night stands. I think the spiders where keeping them under control. The alive ones where between the mattress and box spring.

I just tried it myself. Bought a 80,000 BTU Delux Dyno Glo Kerosene forced draft heater and metal fan - only problem is heater will switch off at 110 degrees, so have to put in separate room and blow into room you trying to heat up, will try some aluminum duct and stiff insulation and duct the heat into room from door or window - next time. The metal fan I bought, got so hot it quit working - P.O.S. I was able to get the room up to 140 - 160F even with door open and it blowing from other room. During December - however I do live in Louisiana so it don't get cold cold here in winter. Tired of spending lots of money on poisons and exterminators that don't get job done. After I heated room, found many along baseboard dead. Also put out the powder after heating room - I find the powder is very effective, cheap, and also safe. Heating the room up with Kerosene heater is not so difficult, don't let exterminators scare you. The average attic can get up to 150 to 160F during summer - so heating a room this hot is not that dangerous. Just watch for plastic blinds. TV still worked fine - even though temp got up to 150F. I am a Landlord, and bed bugs is becoming more and more a problem for hotels and rental property - these mother fuckers cost me alot of money and headache. As a landlord - I was forced to find an effective and affordable option and heating the room up seems to be my only hope - besides powder and throwing out the bed. Powder is very effective too for small infestations. Also need that laser temp pointer, so you know how hot every area of room is and where you need to heat - get the laser temp pointer.

These things can be a bitch to get rid of. Called exterminator, heated room, dust, fogged underneath pier and beam house too. Pain in the fucking ass. The heat works, but these fuckers can be very diffilcult to exterminate if they get in wall or floors.

Temperatures reach about 35 degrees Celsius outside, minus 5 or 6 for inside cause of the thick Soviet structure which keeps it cool indoors. I have a radiator heaters in every room, its a machine system which keeps the house very very very warm when its minus 30 degrees celcius outside in winter and I can guarantee it will increase the temperature at least 10 degrees more than outside during summer, if not 15 degrees celsius. Its a small apartment with double glazed windows with the sun pouring into the apartment in summer, with no where for the bedbugs to escape except maybe the power sockets and no where for the heat to escape except under the main door which i can block. I am talking about a 1960 Soviet structure with walls unimaginably thick. I will remove all electrical equipment except fridge and washing machine. Add a few fans to get the heat moving around. Would this work? And if I manage to get the temperature up to 50 degrees what has the potential to burn such as my fridge and washing machine? Or shall i just not heat up the kitchen? Sorry talking in Celsius...

122 F and above is the general established temp to kill them. You gave me an idea…. While I don’t have a kerosene heater, I have an electric space heater and an ice fishing propane heater. Both together would probably reach those temps. Thankfully I think I got all of them, but if they return I may do that.

We will be doing this this weekend. We had this kerosene heater for many years, heats up the house really good. Glad to hear that it worked for you. Question, after all these months have you seen any activity? We plan to do each room at a time - probably will take the whole Sat. to hit each room, also plan to us the Armato 9000 to steam every inch of the room, then treat room with BB killer and powder. Encase all pillows and mattresses. We have found only a few, but those few have put our lives in over drive to kill them and any hiding. Great video, glad to see someone with a positive video - so tired and freaked out by the ones that are so heavily infected.

This process takes several hours per room you won't need to steam or powder if you get it to 140° for about three hours make sure you lift the mattress is to get inside the bedframe I have had no problems since I did this you will sleep bedbug free the very first night in sure to use fans to distribute the heat

These are excellent suggestions and instructions! While it makes sense to raise up the nightstands and try to direct the airflow UNDER the bed, it is still difficult to prevent them from escaping under the molding and under carpeting under the molding. I think you should follow up by baiting all wall sockets and electrical boxes with Harris powder. You can also use DE, but Harris’s powder is better. Make sure you add the powder under the molding and any defects in the molding. I have seen bugs go UNDER the molding! They will do this when the heat starts. Sanjosemike (no longer in CA)

I am thinking about renting a small salamader (I have a long room, on the basement level, so we are on concrete with tile) I dont see any fire hazard in doing this, just simply remove any meltables, combustibles, pictures etc from room and ensure there is enough space in front of the heater to not pose a fire hazard. The slamader that I would rent has a thermostat built in so it would monitor its own temperature. I would want to use box fan and window fans I already own to move the heat around. I assume this would be ok at 130 to 140 degrees but advise is appreciated. Has anyone else used a salamader to eradicate bedbugs??? I would love to hear from you.

Well I got em, I figured it was going to happen eventually. There not that bad yet, at least I don’t think they are. I just spotted one last week and started to get bit two nights ago. I’m hoping there in my room only, but I’m going to do my daughters room as well, just in case. I’m going to use your method. But I plan on going a little further, like ripping the old carpet out of room, it needs it anyway. Then take off the base board and outlet covers. I might use Killz on the plywood sub floor, it probably has 20 years of stains, add a few dog piss stains.🤮 Add some new paint on walls, caulk/silicon every nook and cranny I see. But first is the pain in the ass part, that’s going having to pack everything up. Like bagging up all the cloths in contractor bags, keeping them all sealed up good individuality tagged, so we know what’s what and aren’t ripping into them throughout the rest of the summer. The plan is, keep a weeks worth of clothes, like we were going on vacation. Oh and tossing them in the dryer.. Then put the rest of the bags in one of the old work vans we no long use, so it gets nice and hot in there, to bake the little bastards. . Then once a week, repeat, go out and get another weeks worth of clothes, tossing in dryer first of course, or just keep wearing the same shit.. I’m going to have use tubs and boxes for all the nic nac shit. They to will go in van or barn. I don’t want anything in the room other than the bed, which I’m getting Incasements tomorrow. Plus the dresser ..I’ll use heat gun on it wood dresser, nightstand..etc..Heat and use chemicals, like food grade DA diatomaceous, and alcohol 91% mix in spray bottles.. The majority of my stuff will go out through the 2nd floor window in backhoe bucket raised up, so I’m not dragging it through the house. , I have a nonflame propane that screws on top of a average grill tank. Plus two kerosene heaters. And 4, maybe 5 electric heaters, two are the old school long floor type. I will run a few cords up running from different outlets so I don’t flip breakers. Oh and I will pick up a infrared thermometer tomorrow. That should heat it up pretty good I’d think. I’m glad I seen the fans idea, to push the heat around. I’m going to stand the mattress up and the box spring against the wall. Sorry, I just felt I needed to write this down, so I’ll screen shot and use it. Lol
@liveitlikeitloveall2746
@liveitlikeitloveall2746 4 года назад
It’s been 3 plus months and I have not been bitten or seen any evidence of the little bastards. I didn’t use but two heaters but it got very hot I must say..I was hitting temps up to 145ish in some areas..Mostly 120 range ., It’s hard to get the heat in all areas to stay constant, but with fans and guides I’ll call em will help with that problem a lot.., That and you must continue to run in the blazing heat and adjust your heaters,fans and guides .. I used a couple old aluminum street signs (interstate work in 70s) I had laying around.. This helped GUIDE the heat, or force it into the direction I wanted it to go.. These signs are big, but light and easy to move around..

Ok so I live in an apartment with those smoke detectors that you cannot cut off no matter even if the electric is off. I tried cutting the breaker box and everything because I used a space heater in the bathroom one time and I'm guessing when I opened the door the temp difference swooshed out the door and the stupid thing went off, and it's loud as hell, and screeches, "fire! fire!" Over n over until you fix the problem. Any suggestions on what I can do? It's an apartment, and I have detectors in ever damn bedroom and hallway outside the rooms. So far I've only been bitten in my room, and the kids only get bit when they come crawl in my bed on Saturday mornings with Mom n dad! So I've checked and killed what I could find and put tape in ever crevice I can to hopefully catch them, plus laundry, but my littlest one sleeps with me a lit and he is still getting bit. So obviously there are more than what I'm able to look for, and I've found teeny tiny ones too so I know I see well! So I NEED HELP...... PLEASE!!!! Any suggestions would be great!!!!

How do you work around getting the machine to heat at over 115 degrees with kerosene being flammable above 100 degrees? How can you get these machines up at 120 anyway, when they come with auto-shut offs? I would adore it, to be able to buy a $200 machine at Home Depot and have the issue dealt with inside of a week as I do 1-2 rooms per day. I went out and bought 2 normal 1lbs er so containers of Morton table salt emptied them over entire affected area ( over everything ). 6 hours later 50% reduction. 24 hour completely eradicated. 48 hours vacuumed up and completely gone for good.

Electronics will be fine, though you may want to remove items with Li-ion batteries from the area to be heated just to be safe. Of course you need to make sure there's no bugs in anything you remove, but you can probably be safe heating them quickly with a hair dryer for several minutes. The main thing to be wary of is soft plastics. especially vinyl records like to warp when heated. As long as you don't get much above 140F most everything else should be alright. Temp monitoring is the key with heat treatments. You need to make sure every part of the room gets above 120F and the experts recommend keeping it that hot for 2 to 3 hours.

Exactly right! They don't try to hide in walls either with heat! They come out of hiding from everywhere, where it is easy to get 'em with heat! Should have gone here first! Then done clean up. What a waste of time & energy doing anything else first! I just used a clock with a temp gauge on it, took out all dangerous or meltable items, separated my bed - first time - don't even bother... don't move the mess around the house until you've heated! Then placed four plug-in heaters in the room, & it got up to 116 degrees in a few hours. Then clean up everything else with rubbling alcohol. Wash & bone dry everything. Do it in every room. Voila! ps (pest control told me i couldn't use heat in my house.... due to gas appliances... yet the problem was really isolated in the bedrooms only, anyway!

Well there’s kerosene heaters Electric heaters And propane heaters. Being a contractor I have came across a few of each over the years. So I plan on using them all. It will be a burnt offering to the parasitic bed bug gods. Lol Seriously though, if you still have the little bastards crawling around and plan on going with propane heater, be careful because there’s a flame. Plus it will melt plastic etc if it’s to close. Like a torpedo heater. You can probably find one on Craigslist fairly cheep, under a 100 bucks I’d think. Then the kerosene is around 5 dollars a gallon. The propane heaters also can show a flame, depending on what type. There’s a square type, that screws on top of a average grill propane tank. I can’t recall what the exact name of it is, but it puts off a good amount of heat. The electric heaters will be your less effective, imo. There safer, but you’ll have to run some extension cords to different outlets (circuits) in your home. Because they’ll draw a lot of power, and you’ll flip the breaker. Due to having to use a bunch of them, because again there less affective. The kerosene heater pictured on this video is very common. You’d probably need a couple of them to get a lot of heat. Again you can get them on Craigslist. I think I picked one up for free several years ago. They to are pretty safe, too, compared to the torpedo. But the torpedo is king. Use fans to spread out the heat. You can pick up a infrared thermometer at Walmart for around 20 bucks.. That way you can point the laser in different parts of the room to see if it’s getting the right amount of heat.

@geewizz5962
@geewizz5962 9 лет назад
mlkhogwarts The heater has to get to the coldest part of the room to 120 deg F. To make this happen the room needs to get to about 140 deg F for about 3-4 hours. Most electric heaters have a thermostat not allowing this to happen and most electric heaters do not have enough BTU's to get the room this hot. Thanks, Gee Wizz

What do I look for when buying a heater? Can you recommend one that is reasonably priced ? I have already bought a wet/dry vac to vacuum everything and a steamer (Vapor Clean VM98000 VaporMax Elite 284 Degree Single Boiler 50 PSI Steam Cleaner) that I went over EVERY inch with. I also purchased a Dr.Heater bed bug heater, which is sort of a large, insulated portable closet type thing. The problem I have with that, is the heater stopped working after I used it for 2 hours at 150 degrees and have so far not been able to contact the company for a replacement. I have taken all clothing to the laundry mat, double bagged anything that would fit and left it in my vehicle for several days. (I live in a hot state and was parked in the sun with all the windows left closed.) I also steamed the mattress/box springs and bought a thick bed bug cover. I haven't seen any filthy critters (and believe me, my insomnia has come in handy, since I keep the flashlight near me and go "hunting" between 3-4 a.m. when they seem to be more active) in a couple of weeks, but I'm paranoid and can not afford a professional. I have already spent several hundred dollars on steamers, chemicals, ect. By the way, if anyone is thinking that bombs, demetrius earth, or spays will work, keep your money. They don't!! I need help, tips, sleep, a magic wand and anything else you may think will help rid my life of these vile, disgusting, ugly bastards! Thanks in advance

Heat and full tent fumigation are the only things that DO penetrate the walls, I'm afraid. While the method used in the video here is not ideal to actually heat inside the walls, proper heating setups are designed to heat the entire house to 120F for several hours, with the clock only starting then inside the walls reaches that temp. Kerosene heaters, however do tend to draw many bugs out of the walls as they are attracted to the heat and CO2. bugs looking to feed will be drawn toward the heater and many won't be able to escape back to cooler places before they are killed. The kerosene heater will work will if it is a fresh infestation and you haven't pushed nests deep in your walls with foggers or chemicals. If they are deep in the walls, the only solution is heating the whole house at once or tenting and fumigation.

Pack all your stuff into a nice metal truck compartment on the hottest day possible. Park it in the middle of a large, open parking lot for a couple days just to be sure. When it goes over 113 in there and stays that way the suckers die, or so I have heard. If you can get it hotter due to extreme heat and sunlight? all the better. Then move to a new place after thoroughly cleansing yourselves and any belongings not in the truck. Wanna be sure? Pack anything with you in plastic bags, launder all the contents on super hot. Be polite and launder the plastic bags for a run through too if you do it at a public laundromat and don't shake things. Leave suitcases and stuff in that truck. Be super paranoid. If you can't move, clean the empty home and exterminate exterminate. Give it a couple weeks at least of nothing but exterminate and clean. Or nuke the site from orbit. It is the only way to be sure. Suckers get in the walls etc. Coming right back in does nothing and they live for months.
