How to kill nutsedge in your lawn? Doc shows you the fastest and safest way to kill nutsedge without damaging your entire lawn. www.howtowithdoc.com/how-to-k...
I've been watching your channel for about a month and never in my life did I ever dream that I would be pulling mushrooms and crab grass out of my lawn. Thanks for all the info!
I've got a nice patch of nutsedge that I'll be spraying with Image tomorrow. Oxalis has popped up everywhere as well. Thanks doc for another good video. My lawn is looking great thanks to you!
Spot treated all 🥜 sedge over the spring and BOOM- all this rain- it’s everywhere now 😨. I’ve used image but it does take a while. Might try this dismiss. Great vid Doc!
I used Sedgehammer on a big area that I had a problem with Nutsedge. It was very expensive but you only need 1 gram (1/4 of a teaspoon) of Sedgehammer per GALLON of water. I did use a surfactant, let it sit for 2 days, then watered it in. The Nutsedge immediately stopped growing then shriveled up to nothing in about 8 days. Worked amazing for me. I’ve heard good things about Ortho’s Nutsedge Killer but never tried it myself. As far as I’m concerned, the Sedgehammer was worth the money.
InDatParish only problem with Sedgehammer is that it only temporarily kills nutsedge because it doesn’t take care of the nutlets deeper in the soil that allows it to regrow.
Great way of using product with spray bottle. I bought that little bottle of Dismiss last year it does come with a small measuring tube for application.
Me too. Nutsedge was dead after 48 hours. I even applied it after a heavy rain, and it rained afterwards..still killed it all in 48 hours with NO harm to my Bermuda. Ortho Nutsedge Killer is the one and it's only 12 dollars at Lowe's.
I have a massive nutsedge or kilinga problem at my home in Talofofo, Guam. My lawn is mixed with Zoysia in several areas and Bermuda in others. That’s a challenge in its self! We have just entered the rainy season so the nutsedge/kilinga is really popping out out the ground! What advice do you have for us in Guam?
Doc, what is the cut off temp for Image? I had an explosion of nutsedge last week. However, we dropped down to freezing had our first frost on 11-1. I'm in hardiness zone 8b in east texas. I have a mixture if St. Augustine and Bermuda in my front yard due to a large live oak providing shade to most of the front.
Hi Doc, I have three large dense patches (40sqft each) of nutsedge on my lawn of 5000sqft. I'm thinking spraying the whole lawn. What do you think will work best? what product will you use? when will be the best time to apply this treatment since we are close to fall? is it better to do it in spring?. I have bermuda grass. Thank you.
Good video, I have used image before and has worked. I am Hepta neighbor with her lawn but image has not gotten rid of her nutsedge problem. Trying Dismiss now...hopefully this does it
Doc, try using an oil can applicator for your Dismiss. Are sure if you can still purchase them but growing up my Dad bought about quart size pump oil cans for placing Mineral Oil on Flu Cured Tobacco to prevent suckers from growing. Just a thought that would prevent any over spraying.
Hey Doc have you used dismiss nxt it has sulfentrazone and carfentrazone very cool. It nukes broadleaves, sedges and even got goosegrass out of my yard
Perfect timing for me with this vid. I have a bunch of this stuff I need to kill. How long before the brown Bermuda you showed in your video recovers? Thanks.
I have new Kentucky Blue Grass sod laid. 2 months old. Sod is great and healthy from tons of watering and it seems like the roots are established. However, I do have nutsedge popping up all over. Probably from the existing grass that was removed. If I use this product or sedgehammer, on the new sod, will that be safe? I heard only to use it on well established turf. Should I just wait to fight this battle next season? Or can I do it now? Thanks!!
Doc, does this stuff (Dismiss) work on Dallisgrass as well as nutsedge? Those are the only two weeds I have this summer but I can’t find anything that eliminates them both without killing my Bermudagrass as well. Loving your channel!!
Doc i have a wide blade green weed that looks like quak grass and cant kill it. It is starting to turn purple in some spots of it. Its very invasive. Only thought i can think of is glyphosate. Any suggestions?
I use Blindside at the recommended rate in a pump sprayer (fan tip) and it kills nutsedge in a day or so and doesn’t damage my Bermuda lawn like the Dismiss (at that concentration) seems to do. Admittedly, Blindside is pricey and, as a warning, do not use a surfactant with it . . . that will cause some Bermuda damage.
I used a product called Manage for several years. It worked great but I don’t think it’s available any longer. I now use Sedgehammer and it is also great. It is expensive but it doesn’t affect the Bermuda at all. I think it’s available on Amazon. I have paid as much as $150/bottle for the granular type. It is now about $80 and it lasts for years.
Sedgehammer is fantastic. Works a bit faster than Image and there's no adverse effect on bermuda. When I buy it by the single use packet I just use a small amount of it and store the rest of the powder/surfactant mix in an air-tight pill container for next year.
I wish my lawn had only little spots of Nutsedge . I have a tremendous amount . I have a two acre lawn and it has taken over , however I live in a rural area and my lawn used to be mostly pastor . No I don't keep up the the Jones , but I do like a neat yard , and Nutsedge is a problem .
Do these products help with next years nut sedge not emerging or is this just something for the season? In other words does it kill the nut helping to not have issues the following year?
Most systemic herbicides will get to the root as long as it hits the leaves of the plant. Up here in Michigan I use Gordon's Pasture Pro Plus. It kills wild rose, wild raspberry, bull thistle, Canadian thistle, poison ivy, clover, and just about any other broadleaf plant you can think of.
Will Dismiss or Image Kills Nutsedge kill both yellow AND purple nutsedge? If not, which one does both? I have both in my yard and don't want to have to do double work.
HI I have been dealing with nutsedge for a couple of years now. I am actually thinking of taking over my lawn care. My landscaper has been using sledgehammer. Have you ever used it? Is there a way to get rid of it permanently? Can you treat for it before the summer comes and hot weather? ETC. Thank. you in advance Ed I did watch both of your videos on it.
Hey Doc, you’re always talking about “we” did this or “we” tested that. Who is “We”? Who are you? How about a little behind the scenes video sometime? Thanks
Doc, lots of good advise and insight here. My nutsedge got the SedgeHammer treatment 2 weeks ago and is finely dying off. Very slow systemic action but does a good job 👏🏼 What we all are wanting to know is can Dismiss be applied at higher temps than 85 degrees? I have Celsius for this reason but it just isn’t a cure all. ☹️
Yes me too! So you're feeling the anguish of this horrible weed too? I've practically had to hand pull, making extra special care to pull out the whole root system too!
I thought my weed was the Nutsedge? I do have a few of those, but my real problem is the weeds that the foliage looks like Netsedge with the little prickly looking star clusters on the tips of each one! They were taking over my lawn and I've actually gone as far is to take the whole weed with roots intacted and pull each one up in my front yard! But the back is way to huge of an area to do this! I had a bad case of armyworms and since last Spring I've hand tilled my whole front yard and half of the back! And have raked and raked 1,000 times thatching and they are all gone now so far! But man, they did some damage. I've finally seen where all my hard work is paying off! And I think you'd be proud! Lol! I know my Dad is looking down on me loving the fact I listened to him all the times I helped him growing up in the yard! Best times of my life! I'll have to try to send you before and afters! Lol. But getting back to my weed? What is it and how do I kill it without messing up what I've worked so very hard on? And this may sound stupid, but oh! Well...I have no idea what kind of grass I have? It's like the golf grass at the local golf course! Small blades and very soft to walk on! Like a grass carpet!!! Thank you and love your videos!!!
How about glove in glove with glyphosate? Don’t go anywhere near the roots, just wipe up near the top of plant. Maybe cut it back with scissors, so plant doesn’t droop over on turf.
I am a bit confused about his comments about not needing chemicals on the lawn due to the use of pre-emergent herbicides. Aren't most pre-emergent herbicides composed of carcinogenic chemicals that create a chemical barrier to inhibit weed seed germination?
Doc, what’s a good mid-summer weed control? Last year I sprayed when it was 90 and had some bad burns. Bermudagrass, Gainesville, GA. What can be used mid-summer?
Hey doc, first of all love your vids. You said something a little misleading in this one. You said a teaspoon of dismiss should be mixed per gallon of water. Then later you said you have a teaspoon of dismiss plus the green marker in the spray bottle. Shouldn't you have said, the spray bottle contains the mixture from the gallon container?
I just want to know if it kills the roots, which I was listening for through the video. Defoliants dont work. So does it or doesnt it? You said you do this "every year", so I am guessing not. There is no way I am going to spray every sprout of nutsedge on my 2 acres of lawn year after year.
I used Spectracide Crabgrass control, it says it kills nutsedge, but you really don't know if its effective unless you try different products. Specialty products are a last resort and people say my lawn looks great just using basic herbicides.
how long did it take? I got a turf type lawn as well and I'm gunna apply in a couple of days. Perhaps mix in a little tenacity for my crabgrass as well.
I've not had that before, until I chopped down a large magnolia tree, and killed a huge birds of paradise bush. Now I got these palm leaf looking things popping from the dirt
Dan Scott...Obviously you missed the “This is a strong mixture ratio” part along with a bit of his explanation of the product recommendations vs his approach. Might want to watch the video again bud.
Nutsedge, green kylinga, dichondra, oh my! By the way, if you only have a very small yellow nutsedge infestation, just pull it out. The nuts will re-sprout, but pull it out again. After 3 times, the nuts weaken and die off.
