How to kill Root knot Nematodes no dig

Just discovered my carrot crop affected by RKN. I will be planting marigolds & I may solarize the bed this summer.

Yes these are different nematodes. In fact I think you can use certain beneficial nematodes to help control these root know nematodes. I have not yet tried making a purchase for those.

Yes, it didn't quite work as well as I had hoped. I still got infection after the fact, but perhaps not as strong. I'll be doing a few more experiments in the near future. Going to run one this season.

I'll tell you, I had one of the best crops of tomatoes from this bed this summer, but to be honest the nematode results were not as good as I had hoped. Most plants still were infected, and most of them died by the end of September. I am not sure if the marigolds had any suppressive effects, or if the great amount of organic matter allowed the tomatoes to produce well despite the infection. I did notice that any roots that grew in the compost layer were not infected, but the deeper ones were. Showing that nematodes may not prefer living in compost.

Davide Antonicelli I appreciate your response. I plan, like you did, to bury my marigold with compost, flowers and all. If I’m lucky, I get nematode protection AND I get free marigold transplant next spring.or so I hope...

Hi, These are seeds I harvested from a variety called "Nema Gone" I purchased from burpees I believe a few years back. I saved the seeds from it. In my experience the marigold does NOT trap the root knot nematodes. I have never seen any infection in any roots from any marigold variety I've used. I use french marigolds as well as companion plants. The marigolds supposedly release substances that kill or in my experience deter nematodes.

It has to be French marigolds. They will actually kill tge nematodes

Did this method work after you planted the next Spring?

Not these ones!

The good nematodes will destroy bad pests and the bad nematode eggs. I just sprayed some and will be spraying more in a couple of days. I ordered 3 types of beneficial nematodes from ARBICO Organics. They fedex them overnight. You want the SF for the bad nematodes. And I'm planting French Marigolds but will be tilling it in with crab meal.
