I have had people comment on contrast issues in both directions and it made me realize that there isn't any one color combo that is going to make everyone happy. This was my stab at a solution and it is nice to have feedback that it was helpful.

Oh, thank goodness; you knit the way I do. :) Cool stitch. Very elegant. I’ve been wanting to get into the whole Japanese chart knitting thing. I read simple Japanese - katakana and hiragana - so I might be able to decipher a little of what it says. Not much, mind you, but a little. Great video! Arigato (thank you)!!

Props that you switch between Continental and English style to show the difference. I knit Continental and it sometimes confuses me to see tutorials using English style, so I have to look away some times, but I appreciate the sharing for those that knit in that style. I also appreciated the use of different colors of yarn. The orange was hard for me to see well, but that also could have been because it looked like bulky yarn. The final sample in the light purple finer yarn really presented to the best effect. This is a good example of how color, yarn size and fiber content can make a big different on the final result. Good tutorial. Thanks :)
@WatchBarbaraKnit

Thank you for the feedback on the yarn colors. I struggle with what is more visible to most people. Some people ask for the bulky yarn because they have a hard time seeing "skinny" yarn.

Hi, Barbara: So great! And: some months bevore l bought 750 patterns and 500 northern patterns (Sueden, Norway, Danemark , Vikings:) and portougesian, too ) and l bought one extra for people from country (not inside of a city). Then l found my old one, once found it laying at the street when l was a child, ca 42 years younger than today, they wanted to throw it away, kind of waste! I put the bell and asked if l could take it. I was lucky! Inside there are:the ABC for knitters for Germany and others, over 300 patterns and all you need to take yarn and 2 needles and to learn only with this book to knit it all! It's from 1983! Kremayr&Scheriau, Vienna, Falken - Verlag GmbH, 6272 Niedernhausen/TS, Bstnr: 04134 3. There weren't ISBN, it was bevore! But it's great! That pattern you show here isn't seen there, but a lot of all "normal" patterns. Your pattern here is one l'd love to give it a try! It's a bit slowly to knit, l guess, to me, of course, so l'll start with a smaller project. But it's a great pattern and after a short while (l allways take a little ball of yarn and knit with you when l watch your videos) my fingers knew itselves how to go on and it began to get TV - friendly! More: great! Thank you! My sweet funny and lovely Barbara, please, can you tell me what's your needle brand? I'm allways interested in these things. I knit with Chiaogoo red lace and HiyaHiya sharp in knitting and Chiaogoo T - Spin Bamboo Set for crocheting. I dremeled with a dremel the little steps which are at HiyaHiya and now i can put the red laces from Chiaogoo for all my HiyaHiya - needles, too, and retour, too! They never curl and so for me it's way better than the blue curling cables of HH or the nearly clear - cables from T-Spin from Chiaogoo. I only use for them all red lace - cables! I dremeled away the same steps from the adapters of HH, too, so l can use an L to S - Adapter, then an S to Mini - adapter to nearly all time, can use Mini cables with all my needles and hooks! Sometimes l work with S - cables but l really love the Mini! Btw: All HH -S - cables fit to the S - needles of CH ! Don't need them for knitting any more (s.below) but sometimes l need one cable more cause of my "ufos" and then l give them a HH -cable to wait until l go on and use the other for my now wanted to be knit -project.

Conny Nordlicht, Hello from the western USA I hope this finds you in good spirits today. I can say I enjoyed reading your letter more than ANY I HAVE EVER READ ON YT!😊❤🌺 You are a 🌟 really beautiful person!!! I do not have the needles you have so did not understand exactly what you did but it must have been quite difficult to accomplish but you persevered. What are you knitting on right now and I was curious where do you live? I have not ever seen anyone write as much as you and just loved the fact that you shared yourself with a lot of appreciation for Barbara. You know she also has a Facebook page if you do FB. What is your favorite type of knitting to do these days? I just read this to my husband whom is 6.5 foot long (he's the love of my life as well) . God Bless You!
@WatchBarbaraKnit
@WatchBarbaraKnit 4 года назад
Thank you for taking the time to share all of your thoughts. The needles that I used in this video are from the Knitter's Pride Zings interchangeable set. I really like them because they are aluminum and very light. I have a nickle sensitivity but prefer metal needles so I sometimes struggle to find needles that I like. They aren't quite as pointy as I sometimes like, but I specifically bought them for making tutorial videos because I think the colored shafts make it easier to see the needles on video. I honestly am not 100% sure what yarns I used in this video, I just pulled out scrap balls until I found ones that worked OK in this stitch and would read well on camera LOL. I am so happy to be able to be there with you in spirit when you need me. And it is wonderful to hear that you have the mobility aids that you need to be more independent. I have many friends who use a variety of accessories and chairs to augment their abilities. All the best, Barbara

next step: in the round! Thanks for this lovely stitch❤️
@WatchBarbaraKnit
@WatchBarbaraKnit 4 года назад
This pattern in the round will be a little bit of a challenge. Because it is an interlocking stitch, on every other odd row the cinch will have to jump over the beginning of the round.
@joelbaker9366
@joelbaker9366 4 года назад
For in the round, you'll obviously need a stitch marker, and one of your pattern rows will be to start immediately after moving the marker with the p1 cinch3. I can't help you with number of stitches, but suspect it'd be just a multiple of four plus two (offset). The next pattern row, to give you your offset would be: p1 k1 p1 then the cinch3, or start the cinch after the last purl stitch on the ribbing round. This gives less of a pattern gap, but you use the last knit stitch for a cinch3 again (borrowing). You may end up with the usual "jog" like one does in circular knitting, but this might hide it well enough.

Lots of math LOL. You make a swatch. Block the swatch. Then measure how many stitches/motif repeats you are getting per inch and do the math from there.

I would love to see some demos of different 2 color stitch patterns, not brioche or intarsia but some texture stitches or lace. I also have a sorta random question, what's the deal with using 2 different yarns if they are made of different fibers, will blocking or washing affect them in the lomg run through regular wear. I have some beautiful 100% organic linen yarn and some that is fine merino wool mixed with mohair, both fingering weight, as im sure u know both these yarns have very different appearances and I been toying with the idea of knitting a scarf or shawl/ some kind of wrap thingy with cables and lace. Lots of textures u know. And I want to do a border either along the sides or the length or on the beggining and end of my project that incorporates both those yarns for a really beautiful textured maybe also lacy sections. Something repetitive and simple to just frame my work nicely, any suggestions ( stitch pattern names?) The colors i plan on using are either a combo of chocolate brown and a very rich midnight navy blue. Or either those with a highly variegated yarn (a malabrigo yarn in a earthy tones colorway) uh sorry I know this is super specific what im asking but I figured what the hell. Maybe she will have some ideas. I love your channel Barbara. Im a male knitter who just turned 30 and have advanced rather quickly in knitting techniques in just a year of knitting, everyone looks at me like I'm crazy or a wizard whenever I pull out my needles and yarn which I do often like when im waiting for the bus or riding the bus or train. I find it such a great time spender and it does wonders for my anxiety and ptsd. I have learned alot from your channel, my favorite was probably knitting along with you for the lacy Crescent shaped shawl lesson. Thank u and keep up the informative and fun content
@WatchBarbaraKnit
@WatchBarbaraKnit 4 года назад
I will ponder on two color patterns and see what I can dig up. Regarding mixing the yarns - if you haven't watched this video yet you might want to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C5fKIjXflT0.html You can get really cool effects mixing yarns, but the yarns do behave very differently. Listening to what you are saying I think your best bet would be to get your hands on some stitch dictionaries. You can usually find the Barbara Walker Treasuries in public libraries, but there are so many great ones out there. You just gotta look through them and swatch and play. It is great to hear that knitting helps with your anxiety, there have been quite a few medical studies in the last few years that show knitting and crochet and the like have restorative effects comparable to meditation.

That cinch stitch reminds me of the "3 into 3" stitch I knit when doing some of Sharon Winsauer's projects. :) You knit into three stitches (like you would with a k3tog) but don't drop them, yarn over, then knit into the three stitches again (like a two stitch increase, but you didn't increase) and drop the three stitches off. :)
