Thank you so much! Your video helped me make my birthday present for my dad. I didn’t cast 44 stitches since I am using a regular sized yarn, not a bulky one. I casted on 82 stitches instead and It fits perfectly for an adult head! I used a 7mm needle if anyone is wondering.
Just finished my first beanie !! I had much smaller yarn and needles, and I love a slouchy hat, so I had 80 stitches. You’re tutorial was so clear and honestly just perfect. It was so much fun ! Thank you
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Great work figuring out how to make the necessary changes to use a lighter weight yarn. That's not always easy for everyone!
I am a very beginner knitter and this was my first project. I have tried others tutorials but yours was the best by far! It was super easy to follow unlike others. My hat turned out great and only took me a few days! I highly recommend this hat to everyone especially beginners. Thanks so much for a easy free pattern!!! ❤️
i just finished mine only downfall is that doing only 44 stitches isnt enough for a regular adult sized head while using regular yarn size (not the thick yarn like shown in the video) so try and do atleast 55 to 60 stitches for a bigger opening for a head. no worries though. im gonna give it to my little sister.
If you have a larger head, go with around 60 stitches. I used a more bulky yarn with US size 11, 8mm. You might want to go more stitches with smaller yarn and needles. It took me just about a day, on and off for knitting. Probably could take 4 hours depending on your speed.
This is the best knitting hat tutorial I've watched for beginners on RU-vid. Your instructions were clear, you showed the English and Continental method and there's even have a left-handed video. You take the time to explain why something is done. I want to learn to knit/crochet and will definitely watch your videos. Thank you so very much.
The video is fantastic! I guess I’ll ask at the store near me that sells yarn -for the size of yarn and the fat needles like in tutorial to get that chunky effect!👍🏽
I took a class at Jo-Ann's and it wasn't this easy. Why wouldn't they teach this type of knitting a hat! I am going to get some Circular Needles TODAY...at Jo-Ann's maybe I can make my grandkids each a hat (five of them) B 4 Christmas! :)
Thank you! I've been teaching myself to knit for a year but haven't moved past easy scarves. This morning I watched your video and now I'm halfway finished making the hat. Using large needles and bulky yarn is a great idea for a beginner (I was using fingerling and DK yarn!). I had a DUH moment when you said "bars are purls and V's are knit". Very helpful especially in the first and second rounds. I look forward to more easy knit projects!
That's awesome!! I'm glad you decided to give it a try again. I did the same thing when I originally started - used lightweight yarn - and it was just no fun. :)
yay just finished this hat - I started it yesterday afternoon! Thank you for the step by step...followed everything except that long tail cast on - I just cant wrap my brain around that so I used a knitted cast on and it worked out just fine.
I just finished my first scarf and I wanted something different to try. This video was absolutely perfect! Thank you so much! I feel ready to make a matching hat for my scarf now 😊
I absolutely love your tutorials and you’re method .it is so easy and well explained.I’m a novice and With your help I’ve made 3 beanies,a pair of mittens and a ear band..many more in the pipeline all thanks to you..this is the best gift:
As a crocheter, Norwegian purling was a great way to keep my stitches flowing smoothly since you don't change hand positions. Give it a try if you are getting discouraged with your speed. It takes some getting used to but I don't dread purling now. There are many videos on RU-vid about it.
Brittany, you have THE BEST! tutorials, and this is no exception! You show exactly what we should be doing...how it should look in our hands, and I can't thank you enough! Thank you, thank you!
This is one of the best you tube tutorials I’ve ever seen. I learned to crochet on you tube. I’ve watched a lot of you tube. I’m learning to knit. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. ❤️🧶
Thank you for this very clear tutorial. My first time using circular needles and first time knitting something that wasn’t a scarf. I knitted this quickly in an evening and impressed with results.
Hi, I have just watched the tutorial and thought it brilliant.Just teaching myself to knit in the round as I have always used single point needles to knit my grandchildren their hats. Thank you you have made it very easy for me to change over .
I had my eureka moment! I've been knitting for over 15 years and I picked up your non dominant hand way of knitting within 5 minutes. I'm eternally grateful! So much quicker!!
You are the best teacher I have ever seen. Thank you. I have a friend who is going through a bone marrow transfer and I want to knit her a few caps. Can’t wait to start knitting one. ❤️🧶
This was a wonderful way for me to relearn knitting! It's been 25 years. I made a hat in the Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Eggplant. The color is gorgeous! Like henna burgundy. I knit per your instructions but then found my favorite beanie and matched the height. I looked up decreases, here on RU-vid. I accidently picked up 2 extra stitches. I figured out how I did it. I divided 46 (including extra accidental stitch) by 4. Put stitch markers on the decrease and kept reducing in the same spot. I then reverted back to the original finishing method. It came out perfect!
I made my first hat yeii!!! I am so excited 😊. English is my second language and it wasn't hard to understand your tutorial. Thank you very much from a Dominican that lives in NY

Thank you so much for the patience you had to teach us the pearl and knit stitch.I'm 74 and I crochet and learning to knit by your great tutorial I think I'm learning thank you very much.
I got the Yarn i ordered last week, thinking that i am going to knit a hat for my younger Brother. But last night i am little down since it didn't work as i expect. So today i have this confidence to knit hat to all family members and this confidence is from your video. We live in Tibet, 3200m altitude from the sea level. I deeply thank you and appreciate your video. Keep making videos like this.
I am a beginner in the field of knitting (I have croched a an infinity scarf). I have looked everywhere for a tutorial on how to circular knit a hat, and I couldn't find one that was as detailed and instructional as yours! You've just earned yourself a like and a new subscriber! Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
Just what I was looking for. I used to knit when I was a teen, my mum taught me to knit and crochet and didn't really do any for years. I'm wanting to start again. This video certainly helps remember. Thank you.
Very nice and easy pattern. I followed it using two strands of acrylic worsted weight yarn with the same size circular needles of the instructions. I made it bigger, a man's hat by casting on 48 stitches and gave it a final length of 10". I also extended the size of the 1x1 rib to 3" so that it could be turned upwards. My boyfriend loves it, he wears it all the time he goes out in the cold weather.
I actually just learn how to cast on and off and the knit stitch 2 days ago! I LOVE the way you taught on this video for beginners and I actually understood everything you demonstrated! I'm so excited and can't wait to get me the circular needles so I can attempt make my very first knitted beanie. I'm a crocheter and LOVE it! I tried learning knitting before and never got it until a couple of days ago and be practicing. Now, I'm going to teach myself the purl stitch...Thanks!

Thank you so much for your hat tutorial for beginners! I was so happy I finished my first hat ever. The casting part and the ability to control the very first round of knitting stitchers was quite difficult. But this tutorial was really amazing. Thank you soooo much for your teachings. I’m proud of my hat ❤😊
I’m a beginner to knitting. I’ve crocheted for years. Your tutorial was so easy to follow. I didn’t have the thick yarn so used a double strand and it looks great.
I am preparing to start knitting hats for adult cancer patients. Your video tutorial is fantastic -- your instructions are crystal clear! Thank you so much!
Finally! A tutorial that's worth watching, simple easy to follow instructions with crystsl clear visuals in plain English, no waffling or faffing around. I'm definitely going to knit this hat with you. Going to buy wool this Saturday and buy those needles, I'm so excited, can't wait!! SUBSCRIBED! 🤗
Best tutorial teaching how too knit and how to join together and sow how to use the marker. Thank you so much for taking your time and go slow for beginners.
I am so proud of myself for making an absolutely adorable hat! I couldn't have done it without your video. You provide excellent instructions. Thank you!!

I'm so happy I found this video. I did have to redo my hat p and k stitches about 6 or 7 times before I was happy with how it looked. Once I finished the p and k stitches it was cake. Super easy once you get going. I did use the wool blend which was super easy to work with. I made my p and k stitches 12 since I have curly hair I wanted it to fit all of my hair. Super happy with it. Making some as gifts 🎁 now for Christmas 🎄.
I am a beginner and I used this pattern for practice. So glad I did. I learned how to identify my stitches and what was happening with them and that moment was priceless. I also started adding a lifeline to my work every few rounds. But this wasn't before I learned how to pick up dropped stitches. Thank you so much for this post.
Showing how the stitches look was EXACTLY the tutorial I was looking for AND thank you for showing how purl working yarn needs to be in front and knit in back. Really clicked for me!!!
Thank you so much for your tutorial.... english is not eve my mother languaje and it was the first tutorial i watch and i could understand perfectly every step... and you made it look so eay... im gonna start right now knitting.. thanks so much... greetings from southamerica, Chile
Thank you so much for this video! I'm having so much fun knitting. The video is so well put together, and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I'm so happy to be able to cultivate such a handy skill!
I am a beginner knitter and your video is so clear to understand. I ordered some circular needles yesterday. You made everything so clear to understand plus reading some comments about the cast on helped as well.
This is definitely the best tutorial I've seen here on RU-vid. Also, I'm glad to see that you pointed out that depending on preference/comfort we shall use different hands to hold the yarn. I hold it with the left hand and was concerned because in almost every tutorial they teach the technique holding with the right hand.
I made a hat! I've started like 4 or 5 different knitting projects and this is the first one I had the motivation to finish. Thank you for the tutorial, it's great!
I was able to successfully make my first hat due to this easy to follow tutorial! Very pleased with how she said the instructions and made them easy to follow ! Thankyou
Excellent tutorial!! I crochet and haven't knitted since I was a young girl. I want to try it again with these new (to me) circular needles and I am so glad I found your video. You take your time, go nice and slowly and give us a good view of what you are doing. You do such a good job of explaining everything and I feel ready to start. Thank you so much! :)
My Mamaw taught me to knit 25 years ago. I haven't picked up knitting needles since then. I am more comfortable crocheting. This brings it all back! It's helpful relearning this skill from a crocheter.
Best tutorial ever! I stupidly restarted the beanie thinking that 44 stitches would be too small for an adult male head, but once I pulled the yarn off the needles, it obviously stretched a lot - so don't make my mistake, 44 stitches is perfect! About to make a second one for myself, highly recommend following this clear and helpful video! Thank you!!
Did you talk to to to to thank you for being so clear and thorough in your description. I am blind and have been trying to learn how to knit a hat for a while. I so far only know how to knit scarves and it is nice and I’m actually having something that looks like a hot turn out.
This video is amazing! Started this hat and finished it in the same day. Thank you so much! If I wanted to make this for a toddler - how many stitches should I cast on!?
I tried learning to knit and my stitches just weren’t looking right. I put my faith in following your tutorial after I previewed your way of teaching.. I tried to watch every other video out there in conjunction with reading and searching thru forums and nothing made sense until I watched this! I super appreciate this video and everything you’ve taught me thus far. I just successfully made the cutest beanie thanks to you. Thanks so much!! it’s inspired me to keep knitting and i just started 3 days ago 😊
I've done crochet since a child, but now trying my hand at knitting. Have been practicing so thanks for your tutorial so I can try my hand at a pattern. Great tutorial. I printed off the pattern but will stop back again. :)
Thank you making it that simple.. I do not know what got into me to promise to knit a hat for my first new born grand daughter, other than my big mouth. but you made it workable for me.. thank you very much.. with best wishes for happiness for every second in your life
Thank you , i enjoyed watching your tutorial. Your instructions are very clear and precise and your voice is enjoyable. i also like the fact that there are silences as well, as you don't seem to need to have continuous noise, it helps when trying to follow instructions.. so thank you.
absolutely THE BEST! I knit continental style, but love the way you showed each stitch from several angles, and your voice and connect to nature is really really wonderful. thank you.
@@jennysirisamphan9502 I would try measuring your head then casting in till it’s about and inch or 2 shorter then what your head measured at (cuz it will grow a bit and it stretches) if that makes any since. Also the number of stitches will change depending on the bulky ness of your yarn. Hope this helps!
Thank you for a super nicely-put-together video. I know how to knit scarves and I used your method for my very first hat. My yarn was around the same thickness, so 44 was just right. steps were super easy to follow. :) I improvised and actually decided I wanted the elastic part to fold on top, so I did make the beanie a bit longer in the main part. It fits me nicely now and I do have the fold over my forehead as I wanted. I also decided to stitch the top from the outside, because I prefer not leaving the little indented "hole" visible, and by stitching it nicely I was able to close it tightly and there is no sign of the stitching and no indentation. :)
I am about to start my first hat, do you mind me asking the circumference of your head. I want to make a hat for my nephew, who will be going to college in Montana, but don't want it to be too tight on him.. thank you!
Thank you! I’ve watched countless videos on the continental method and I could not figure it out. Your video just clicked with me from the way you explained it to showing step by step and I can finally do it! Still figuring out tension but I’m making this hat and each round is getting easier and easier. I’m so happy to have found this video and I subscribed! Thank you again!
I really enjoyed this tutorial. I was able to easily follow this pattern. However, I must not have paid attention to my work and when I laid it down to admire my ribbing I noticed a twist in the ribbing and I couldn't undo it. So the only thing I could do was take it all apart. But I figured that was a good learning curve for me so when I start again I will pay attention how the pattern is laying. Thank you for a great tutorial.
thank you so much for this video. im a beginner and i followed your directions which were very easy to follow and made this hat for my husband. you are a GREAT teacher
Wish I could become a B Hooked Insider but on disability plus 70 yrs old! Just found your channel an love it! Thank you for taking your time to make these videos for us, but I do buy my few supplies from Amazon!
I already made two beanies using your video! I doubled up on a thinner yarn in Narwhale Blue and it turned out beautifully. 💙 Thank you so much for teaching this!
awesome tutorial. just finished mine today and made a couple changes. I made it more slouchy and used knit 2/purl 2 for the ribbing. will make another tomorrow. thank you
Omg amazing tutorial! Really easy to follow and presented perfectly. Thank you, I’ve just knitted my first hat. It’s come out perfect and I’ll definitely keep watching your videos. ♥️
Hi! roughly what is the height of the beginning band of the hat? I know the top portion is 7 inches depending on desired level of slouch. I'm going for a tight, almost skull cap, style hat with a large band around the brim. I was thinking about 2 inches. Thanks for the tutorials! As a guy getting into knitting, youtube is a very essential resource for me and you do a great job of going into detail and repeating the confusing steps!
Another excellent tutorial! Thank you. I know it is meant to be a super simple first knitting project, but still, I would never assemble so many stitches at once together. Even one row of k2tg would make the finish nicer and smoother - and less chance to break the yarn while pulling the stitches together. It would be super convenient for your international public to mention the needle size in mm. Thank you in advance!
I did it !! I actually made this hat ! If I can do it, anyone can, You gave really great instructions and the video is so easy to follow. Thank you !!!
I love your video! You speak slowly enough to hear every word you say and you’re very good and teaching this! I wouldn’t be surprised if you actually have a class where you teach this to others! Definitely watching this again once I get my supplies 😊
