I have never knitted a stocking, I’ve been focusing on my crochet projects. For the new year I want to do more knitting and this project will be the first one I do. It’s gorgeous and will make me feel so accomplished if I can actually do it! Thank you for the inspiration!

I apprecite your thorough explanation of each step. For your pattern n the chart's row 7, it ends with the opposite color, there are two colors used. The chart I am using, ends with the starting color. I'm new to chart reading and with 4 repeats per row, 18 stitches each repeat, I'm not sure if I go back to square 1of row 7 for each repeat and if this will throw the pattern off? Can you tell me how to proceed?

When I do fair isle knitting, I use both the index and the middle finger to knit with. This way I don't have to drop the yarn and pick up the second color. Just an option, but it works for me.

Thank you for this! I plan to make this using a blue instead of red. I cannot find any of the fur so a few questions. 1) any suggested substitute or knit extensions and 2) if not using the fur, could one expand the white area for a name?

At my local craft store they don’t have the white fur in so I had to order it online. I want to get started though this weekend! Would it be possible to start the sock by casting on the 60 stitches, and then add the fur after with a crochet hook and pick up 3 stitches at a time? Or should I just wait?

Such a beautiful pattern! Do you have any techniques for tight knitters, to be able to get enough slack when switching colors? I've made one fair-isle hat years ago, but it was way too tight, even though I thought I was leaving enough slack. Thanks!

How long would you expect a beginner to take to make one if these? Of course, I know mileage may vary. But I'm planning on making a little simpler stocking, and trying to gauge how long it'll take. I'm brand new at this, but I'm picking it up fast.

@michelle Shultz yes but only if you are Changing colors. If you keep one solid color for the whole stocking then you would probably need two. Happy Holidays 🌲☃️

Marly - I see you have a seam just like I do that shows where you've changed colors - a job in the color change - will that be very noticeable in the end product? Is there a way to fix that? Thanks!

It won’t be very noticeable and yes, there is a way to knit in the round without a jog in the color. I decided to keep it simple since many are trying fair isle for the first time.

This is so cool to watch come together! The only thing I didn’t understand is when you got ready to start the stranded knitting and you had two yarns to knit with, how you got those both ready to be knitted with. Was one carried up from the rows before?

When I started I just tied the second color to my working yarn leaving a long tail and started knitting.

Every time I do a color change, I get holes where I joined. What am I doing wrong?

At the spot of the join, there is nothing holding the tail to the previous stitches so it does create a hole. Once you weave in the tails you connect that with the fabric to close the hole.

I'm wondering the same thing, did you think of anything? I left a long tail when I cast on but not sure how to turn that into a functional loop it can be hung from.

Beginner here: how are you getting the arrow pattern with a knit stitch and not the squiggle? I thought you can inly get that by purling?

When working Stockinette in the round you only knit. So you get the arrows without having to purl.

You can use this pattern with the heel that is written but you will need to change the gauge and possibly use smaller yarn to make it fit you.

I did the whole thing using magic loop. It may seem hard to do but is doable if you don't have same size double point needles.

I don’t understand how you are doing each row twice? You never showed that and when I look I can only see singular rows? I’m confused. The pattern is 30 rows does that then become 60.

you repeat the row twice for one round. think of one row for the front of the stocking and the repeat of that row for the back of the stocking.
