Can I use heavy worsted yarn for this? That's the only thing Available in my region. It will turn out a little, or maybe alot, thicker but...I'll have to deal with it I guess.
Quick note for anyone with small/short arms! Measure against yourself starting at maybe 6-7cm of repeats. 10cm before the wrist section could end up longer than comfortable/wanted. I think I’m going to do 8cm or so.
I am very grateful to you for teaching us the math and not just giving us an easy stitch amount. It's so useful and helps me understand how to do things so that future projects will go better - and it can help with freestyling my own patterns and etc, too!
I am a complete beginner and this is my fist creation that is really wearable. Love how clearly an understandable his instructions are. Thank you for this video.
You will be making fingerless gloves as gifts for all of your friends and family and you'll be asked by others to make some for them too. CHARGE the regular, not sale price, for the yarn. And charge for all of the time it takes you. Whatever your hours are..... charge whatever your time is worth per hour times 2, 4, 6. Whatever you want. Go online and see the prices for gloves made of the yarn you use. Then price your gloves accordingly. If you don't want to knit for money, that's OK. Just refer the person to this video. Then they can learn to knit for themselves. Just always charge what the materials cost you and your time to knit them.
Norman, I did it! I cannot believe it! I thought that thumb hole would be impossible, but it was easy with your instructions. You are a great teacher. I have it blocking right now, and will start the second one tomorrow!
Norman, Thank you! I have crocheted for years but could never get the concept of knitting, until I came across your channel. The Continental method is perfect for crocheters to adapt to. I am wearing my first fingerless glove as I type this, I am beyond excited. Thank you again!! Your tutorials are very detailed, and I like the fact that I can review the written pattern and also watch the tutorial!! Have a great summer where ever you are in the world!!
Thanks so much for making such a helpful and comprehensive tutorial! I wound up knitting two gloves for my relatives already (and I'm now working on my own set!). I'm a long time goth who lived in rural small towns and couldn't get any fingerless gloves as a teen/young adult (and when I wound up finally finding some, they were made of thin or plasticky materials that made me feel like wearing a halloween costume). Now I can definitely make comfy and warm fingerless gloves that matches my aesthetic!
I watch a lot of knitting videos and follow web pages, but if I get stuck somewhere or want to do something new, I will definitely check out yours. Now I have started making the glove you made here. I may not follow all your advice, but you have been my true guide, Norman, thank you so much! 😍🐬🌻🌈🪡
I really like that you inform us what we need to know before doin this. I am a beginner and I don't know where to start, too many videos to watch and doesn't tell what basics I need to master before doing the project they share!
Norman, I just can’t thank you enough for your absolutely wonderful videos and teaching method that’s truly beginner-friendly. I’m such a fingerless gloves fan and I look forward to knitting some for a change! 👏 Love your channel and your personality! Helene, from Northeast Washington State, USA. 💗
I love them two - except on those really cold winter days. Otherwise..i just feel they are so much more practical - especially in our mobile phone age.
Thank you so much for the detailed tutorial, norman. I am a beginner knitter and I absolutely love your videos. I am so thankful that you added the steps for calculating the amount of stitches. I would love to see a tutorial for fingerless gloves in the round, I recently learned knitting with double pointed needles and I prefer knitting in the round then sewing.
Norman, thank you so much for the video, very enjoyable to listen to as well as informative. I find I am coming back to your videos more than others for tutorials as you are easy to follow and understand. I am not an experienced knitter but make a lot of things and also crochet to fill my day, and very much enjoy making things to give away. Take care Snookums 😊
Loved the video as usual. You are great at explaining and clarifying instructions. Love your accent as well. It is soothing to the ears when you speak. Thank you for being my go-to guy for help. 🌈
I am a new knitter happened upon your videos and love them, then saw that the Canadian Crocheter on YT mentioned that she too recently found your videos too and mentioned them.
Appreciate this Norman, my first knitting project, loved it. My aha moment was recognising the knit and purl stitch and being able to knit without counting or repeating in my head! Loving the mitts 💜
This was my first completed knitted object back when I started last November and you really helped me understand a lot about creating clothing/accessories as a beginner knitter with experience in crochet! I used these foundational instructions to freehand longer arm warmers and I think this pattern is a really good baseline to build off of, beginner or not.
Thank you! I have knit so many fingerless mittens, and have been more happy with your simple design than many others I tried! Specifically - the stockinette between the wrist and hand sections of ribbing is genius. I have always had trouble getting those to fit correctly.
@@NimbleNeedles Yeah, things aren't looking to good for Australia at the moment. Love watching you, keep up the magnificent absolutely gorgeous work you do. 😘
Hi Norman.. I tried to DL the finger-less gloves I have signed up for your newsletter and have become a patron of your blog as I am grateful for all you do for us. You cover everything in your videos and you are very clear with your instructions.. I am 81 and homebound and I came across one of your videos and that was it, no more searching.
@@NimbleNeedles Hi Norman, I still cannot download the fingerless glove instructions and a PDF file. It tells you to subscribe and that the instructions would go to the mailbox for downloading but I never get it. Please let me know how to download it cuz I would really like to try and knit them. Thank you and God bless
Thank you SO very much! You are so detailed in explaining fine details that are so very crucial for beginners!! A sincere thank you! I also knitted my first gloves matching my scarf and it turned out perfect. The hardest part was to cast on the German twist cast on for which I watched your video several times and I got it!!! Not as fast as you are doing, but I got my first German twist cast on!! Thank you!!
Would you please make fingerless gloves in the round using magic loop on circular needles! Your instructions are so good! I can really see all you do ! Thanks! Have a great day!
I know this is an old video but you said to let you know if we want to see a more elaborate version, and i would love that!! I'm knitting a pair of fingerless gloves in the round with dpns right now, I'm slightly more advanced than this tutorial, but I don't feel ready for the full glove, so an intermediate version would be amazing (maybe in stockinette with a slightly more elaborate thumb hole / shaping and a different edge / cast off ?) Great videos btw!!
Thank you for this great tuition. I’m knitting these for a charity, so these are extra special. The design is simple and instructions are easy to follow. I look forward to future videos from you. Have a great day 💕
You are so right. The times I’ve knitted a hat and it’s been miles too big or miles too small. I’ve never thought about needing swatches before but I’m going to do it this time because these fingerless gloves are a present for a friend who is ill and I really really want them to fit her.😊
I so greatly appreciate the time to show us how to get an exact size because like you said in the video sometimes beginner projects come out way too big or way too small. Now I at least have the information to get me closer to a properly sized project while I figure out what my style is with this pattern.
Wowwww!! I 'm a begginer and this tutorial is very easy but beautiful 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿❤❤❤ Thankyou so much for the beautiful video 🙏🙏🙏🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳❤❤❤ Love from India bro!!!
Decided to give this pattern a go before I followed along with the beautiful fingered gloves you posted a few weeks back. Loving it so far, as always, your explanations and videos are a dream to follow. Even think I did the calculations right 😆
i made these as my second ever knitting project (of course i had to do a scarf first!) and i'm very happy with them! eminently wearable, they were easy to make and look quite nice. i made them in cream and i'll be wearing them in cold uni buildings where i still need some dexterity to write or type. thank you so much for the video and post! and for all your tutorials as well. having video examples that i can stare at and religiously copy in real life is SO helpful and everything was really easy to find. not to mention all the little pieces of advice that you give as you go along. you're a blessing for beginners like me! PS i should say that i bought double the amount of yarn because, for some reason, i thought the quantity was for just one glove... that's on me being a goof lolol. i'll make something pretty with the rest :)
And now i've made another pair in some kind of fuzzy spiderwebby dark mossy green. and i love those too. One pair for cozy winter, and the other for scrunkly autumn.
this was the first knitting project i was able to finish lol they came out pretty good, the pattern is very easy and your tutorial is beginner proof! only part i struggled a bit was the sewing part but thats totally on me! these glowes were a gift and were much appreciated
Your tutorial on fingerless mittens was fantastic..... so precisely and patiently explained. Thank you. I always am lost as to how many stitches to cast, your example in the glove tutorial... does that work for all others too. I.e. beanie cap. Kindly comment.
Appreciation and a question! I can't thank you enough! Beginner knitter here and i completed my second project thanks to this! (First was a brioche scarf) your tutorials are so very easy to watch, follow, listen to. Very calming and encouraging. Question- I've just started another new pair, different yarn, different gauge (your teaching of getting the right size is amazing!) But i wanted to ask how important the stockinette rows are, if i left them out would it leave me with a badly fitting glove? Thanks again!
they are not all that important. I incerted them because I like the way this looks and it's a bit less stretchy in that area. But you can totally just knit ribbings!
thank you!! this is so beautifully explained and not too simple that it's boring but not too difficult that i don't even want to try it. Perfect!. I can't wait to start this :)
You're so welcome! and indeed, I tried to make this video as accessible to beginers as possible and still ending up with something one wants to wear :)
I really enjoyed watching you do this, even the bit where you struggled to do that one kint stitch, it just goes to show even the best knitters do find some bits annoying lol. I am a beginner I can make scarfs an little bunny's for Easter. I am looking forward to trying this. Thank you
Super super glad i found this video! Not only is it easy to follow, the addition of allowing for custom measurements is just so nice! I have sort of small hands, and its nice to have my gloves actually fit well! Had to watch on a slower speed to follow along while i worked, but they came out great! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for this tutorial! As a beginner i thought it would be more difficult but with yours explanation it was really simple and only hard things I encountered were due to me learning new things (like matress stich) overall this was really helpful and the glove is so pretty i really love them
Hi Norman for the USA.. I love all your videos; you are so clear and patient. My question is why further explanation as to why you always use 2 needles to cast on? I know you said is give a stretchy knit. Do you do this for a projects? Thanks for all you do for us beginner knitting fans
I don't ALWAYS do it..but if you cast-on around 2 needles the loops will be twice as big = more slack to feed into the edge = stretchier. For these ribbing projects, I always do it. But you can also use a needle 2 sizes bigger :)
Great tutorial. I decided to make my fingerless gloves more complicated by using fingering weight yarn. And making it two colours. First one is in the ready to block stage and the one for the right hand is currently being knit.
Im a beginner however ive made several things now and i still have a lot to learn. I made one fingerless glove i hope the right hand one comes out too.
Your videos are so wonderful and clear! I just finished knitting the left glove and can't wait to start on the right one. This is my first ever project. I'm so so excited for this new knitting adventure! Thank you!!
I would really love to learn how to knit these with gussets for fingers/thumb. Do you have any patterns like that? Ty for all of your videos..they are so helpful
Hi Norman. I’ve recently started knitting and enjoy your channel very much. Just finished your chunky scarf pattern. This is my second project and first time using circular needles. Question: I understand the circular needles should be 4.0mm but curious what the length of the needles should be? 100cm or can they be shorter? Thanks again for all the work you put into your videos! ~ Andrea
they can be shorter. The idea behind the circular needles is that you can easily wrap your project in the making around your wrists/hand to verify your size. So they can be pretty short :)
Thank you for the video, I think I learned a lot from this project. I made mine with the picot bind-off from your other tutorial and it looks very cute. =)
I got into knitting a few weeks ago and I am a huge fan of your channel! I have been knitting dishcloths, but I will graduate to these gloves soon. What length of circular needle are you using in this video? I know it doesn't necessarily matter all that much for knitting flat, but the length you chose looks like a comfortable place to start. I have been wondering if I should get a 16 inch cable so that I will be ready to make a hat, or if a slightly longer cable would feel less cramped for making dishcloths and gloves. Thank you for all of your wonderful tutorials!
Absolute beginner here (I've been knitting for three weeks now), and can I say that this was an absolute treat of a video. Your explanations were very easy to understand and I appreciate the guidance with the math, which is not my forte, to help me make a perfect fitting glove! Learning to mattress stitch on black yarn was quite a feat, but I managed to get it done rather quickly and everything turned out wonderfully. I'm excited to knit the right one tomorrow and to make a pair for my friend's birthday next week. Cheers, definitely earned a new subscriber. I look forward to what else I can learn from you 🤗
This was an extremely helpful demonstration. May I ask: Given that the thumb hole for the left hand glove starts 6 stitches BEFORE the middle of the row right after you finish 2 knit stitches; is the right hand glove thumb hole 6 stitches AFTER the middle of the row?
Thanks for a great channel! I don't seem to get the stichtes right on the first and second row, the whole "sequence" doesn't fit because I also had 47, but the rows consists of uneven numbers, so I don't end with the pearl or knit-sticth that I'm suppose to in the end of each row. How do I go about this?
Thank you, I bought some very cute baby blue yarn and did not know what to knit with it. Your video was very detailed and very informative. I will watch your other videos too :)
Hello! Instead of ribbing, I'm doing the whole thing plain (just knit on one side and purl on the other). So while calculating the number of stitches, do I do step 3 and step 4? Loved the video btw, excited to make this for my friend!
well, i would be very careful to do that. THe reason why I picked ribbing instead is that it has a lot more negative ease. Your hands are definitely getting wider along the way. So if you knit just stockinette stitch both the fit and the overal behaviour of the fabric will be different. As a result, and since I haven't tried this, I cannot give you any recommendations.
