I'm so glad you posted this video. I'm in the final editing stages for my second book and I've been feeling a lot of internal pressure to make it "perfect" or at least better than the first book in the series. But like you said, as some point you need to say "This is the best I can do with the skills I have NOW. It doesn't have to be perfect." Eventually you need to just let the book out into the world and wish it the best of luck haha.

I’m loving the sprinting idea. Thank you thank you

That all makes sense how there are always tiny details to alter, but when it feels right it’s done. And I did feel nervous once I handed it to a copy editor. It was the last major edit before the next steps.

I actually sprinted with the first draft and made notes on what I wanted to improve during the process. That way, I can look at it and figure out what I want to change and improve it with minimal difficulty.

The only issues I have are I expect to be out of town for 2 & a smidge days & I am an overnight manager so not awake in the afternoons & evenings. Hope that will still work. I signed up to do my best already. Thank you for hosting this, it really helps.

I love how you talked about fear being the issue keeping most writers from finishing. It is completely true.

This's why going the self-publishing route is such a risky gamble. The fact is that no matter how much you self-edit the manuscript, you're still taking a risk by just putting the book out on the market. For me, this's where all the fun is. I love taking that risk.

Thank you for everything you give us in these videos! Your RU-vid channel helps me more than I could even explain. I love to write but my focus has been on non-fiction & autobiographical. However, so much of your techniques are definitely applicable all types of writing. Thank you for showing us the "how" with your content. Others only have light content in regards to the "what" & "our why." You talk about how to actually "do" the tasks involved. And, you never push your viewers for book sales or any other monetary support. You are authentic and a gem! Having said that, I felt like I wanted to read a book or two of yours so I could understand better. Yeah, a book or two. ..lol! I purchased and read all of the available books in the Shadow Demons Saga and I am hanging with inticipation! I am really excited for the writing sprints next week. You are awesome - great work; but, most of all, THANK YOU for the inspiration you give so freely!

Thank you so much for calming my nerves. I’m writing book 4 in my series and I went back to book 1 the other day to confirm some details and immediately felt like I should edit it. Book 1 has been published for years, but I felt like I could make it better because there is more details I know now that I am writing book 4 that could be beneficial to book 1. You nailed it! I now feel more confident in my series knowing that in a few years I will feel the same way about all the others. You are so inspirational and any time I feel like giving up and crying in a corner, I go back and binge watch your videos. Thank you so much for being you!

Ahhh thank you! I need this. I can trust my gut but it's still scary. But also, there's only so much you can do before you need to send it out. I trusted my gut today and reworked my beginning and I feel so much better about it. Thanks for this!

Love the concept of the tumbler falling into place! (And reallllly hope I'll be able to feel that, too!) Super excited for your word sprint challenge, too. If anyone is wondering if the challenge will be useful -- sign up for it!! I've been tracking my sprints for a while, and there's a definite difference between morning vs afternoon word counts. So powerful to see that! I used to resist the fact that I wasn't a morning person and tell myself I'd start work early... and then I'd procrastinate all morning or the work would feel like torture -- and I wouldn't hit my stride until the afternoon, anyway. Lots of wasted mornings where I felt guilty about my procrastination. But tracking my word counts based on time of day and location has enabled me to say, "I don't write well in the mornings, so let's not even try to force it." I'm excited to play with your idea of figuring out different lengths of sprints, too, Sarra! Thanks for always sharing such great content. This series has been great -- I always love seeing how you organize and plan, so I'm definitely excited for the next video.

IMO the best advice for editing is before you make any changes make sure that it's going to make your book better. If it's just going to make it different then save that for the next book. I'm looking forward to the sprinting challenge. :)

Wow, your writing sprints challenge sound fabulous. I imagine that time differences around the world might be a challenge. What are your ideas for people in different time zones? I just signed up - there was more information on the signup page. I get how it is going to work for all time zones because you are providing email support and a download that I will run according to my time zone :)

On working on a different story bc the current isn’t coming together - yes, this is a trap I am in right now! I have been jumping from one project to the next, leaving them all unfinished. 😞

I almost started crying hearing this. I’ve been writing and editing this novel for 2 years and I know I’m so close to being done. The only thing is I just wish I knew how to get to my featured word count (over 50k) without it affecting the story too much with unnecessary add ons.
