I'm Egyptian and have NEVER tasted any korean/chinese food before and obviously never cooked any before but your channel for some reason is extremely enjoyable for me
anna yesssss, they are! almost all grocery stores have at least dark and light soy sauce- the bigger ones tend to have at least sweet chili sauce, hoisin sauce and oyster sauce (even outside of cairo). there are also a few chinese supermarkets, and websites specified for asian ingredients in general. there is also a korean grocery store, and most korean restaurants sell korean ingredients. if you need any help with the places that sell them, i am here to help!
@@nattommo6024 wow that sounds so good!! having those condiments/sauces is the key, and the rest is pretty easy :) i would love to visit egypt sometime, thanks for being so sweet! ❤️
Boy, I can't wait to go out for Korean food when it's safe to do so! My partner and I were going to go to KBBQ for our 5th year anniversary (because it's something we both enjoy, as I love the food and everything Korea has to offer and he just loves meat), we ended up canceling the reservation because we were both not comfortable about going out (he's immunocompromised a lot of the cases were in the CBD of our state, and that's where the restaurant is). So our first night out will be for our belated anniversary dinner. So excited!
Missy Happy Anniversary to you two!! Yes, I think the dinner will be extra special! Load up on the meat, ask for extra sides and order some steamed eggs (gyeran jjim) and a bottle or two of makegolli (rice wine) 🕺😝😀
That's an excessive amount of green onions and I'm so here for it. I think I'll forever chase flavor highs because my family cooked such mild food and I'm making up for lost time lol
"Let me see if you're lying or not......OOOOOOOHH!" LOL I laughed too hard at that xD But I guess with that reaction its an A+ xD AAGH Now I want hotpot!!!
We did this last night with a pumpkin flavored Korean noodle and the sweet noodle with the spicy broth was unbelievable! Thanks a million for the recipe!
All that chili flakes and chili paste. Does that make it really spicy? Omg!!! That looks amazing! I’m not Korean, but I’ve never seen fried rice like that. I’m gonna try it at home. Mouth watering. Another great video! Thank you!
If you can't handle heat too well, perhaps start with a 1/3 of the sauce. It may look spicy on film, but once its mixed in with the broth, becomes a well-rounded spice - very tasty!
Thank you for sharing this recipe! While in Korea as a vegetarian this was one of my favorite restaurants they had the best kimchi ever! We went as a group in our Eng/Lan club & I forgot to ask what the name of the dish was called. I had to search so many videos until I came across it lol. It came out delicious the only problem is I overcooked the noodles & they were too mushy. How long from the time I put them in should I take them out?
안녕하세요! Is there any substitute to 미나리? Since it's just impossible to find here in the Netherlands. Even the Korean supermarkets don't have it. From what I gathered it's even a banned herb here since it's invasive. Thank you in advance!
Any delicate leafy green will work - baby spinach, watercress, celery leaves, etc. I'd go with watercress or celery personally because it has a nice bitter bite to it
Im enjoying almost all of your youtube video and then i hear 10:02 I lost my appetite. Yes i know that's how Korean emphasizing the expression of their excitement. But for me it sounds very (sorry) disgusting
because you cook the food while eating, this is an amazing meal idea for family or friends to have together! it's so perfect and like you said, so easy to just choose whatever vegetables and meat that you like. and the fried rice at the end is killer! thanks for sharing daniel :)
Don’t understand why you don’t just add the meat and vegs into the broth and it will be soup which it is anyway. why go through all that. Just a complicated way to cook when it doesn’t have to be.
Scouring RU-vid for recipies... this one seems simple enough... so many want difficult bases... and i like that too. But today I am happy w fast and easy ... Hold This 🍺 while I grab some Bok choi... 🍜 😂😍😘... this is on tomorrow's menu 😋 👌
All this food looks so good!!!!! Making Asian food always scares me because of its unfamiliar ingredients but man does this make me really excited to try it!
Definitely recommend adding dried shitake mushrooms (you can keep them in the broth too after cooking too). It won't replace the anchovies 100%,but it will definitely be worth it!
Definitely use dried mushrooms to replace the anchovy flavour and I'd suggest adding soy sauce or something a little salty too. Not much. Honestly it'll never be as good, but you wouldn't know the difference anyway, having never tried it the good way 😂
Definitely konbu and dried shiitake, as mentioned by others, but I also like to cheat just a tiny bit and add a small scoop of Better Than Bouillon. They’ve got a tonnnnn of different flavors, but the garlic, mushroom, and vegetarian vegetable would be great for this! Really helps add that dee savoryness needed when the broth is the whole point.
yep - next time the family comes round, this is on the menu. Thank you so much for posting these recipes. I adore Korean food, and making it for others is so gratifying. Seeing empty bowls and smiling faces makes it all worthwhile. Or is that the soju? :-)
Daniel and Katie, it’s because of you two that I’ve become proficient in cooking! Over quarantine, I’ve tried out some of your recipes and they’re all awesome. I love spicy food, and you make cooking so accesible and simplify it so it’s not intimidating. Thank you both! Cheers from California.
What a meal! The arrangement of meats and vegetables looks so welcoming. I'd love to put a dish like this together for a gathering some day. 😊 Thank you! 💜💚
Oppa going „chchchch“ beholding his dish or before trying a bite ... just like in the K-Dramas! There’s a Chinese Shabu-Shabu restaurant in my city, I hope it didn‘t die because of lockdown. I doubt they do Korean, but it looks great all the same! Dan-yuk: extra points for cleaning the kitchen! 😀👍🏻
This video tortured me. The apartment nextdoor to me just opened up. Would you both consider moving to Phoenix, Arizona, USA, within the next month, please? 😁😆😉
Gosh that looks chilli hot I can’t even have a teaspoon of chilli.... love your beautiful meals I do make a mix of korean/ japanese meals Better than meat and 3 veg what I was brought up on when my parents had a farm
Love your channel. My mother was half korean and growing up we never had korean food in the house. Ive gotten into korean food lately to "get in touch" with my own heritage and your recipes are great. Keep it up and keep it spicy.
Hi, i was curious if you guys could consider doing some videos on meals for students? cheap, easy and healthy? i really love all the recipes but i often just dont have the time or skills, eventhough you do have a lot of considerably simple recipes... love todays video ♡
Omg I had this meal once on my first trip in Seoul years ago and it blew my mind but I never knew what is was! I thought it just chinese hot pot in seoul!
Lol, you know the family relationship is healthy when the wife says: (9:47) " Let me see if you are lying or not." Lol. Seriously tho, another great video guys. Shabu shabu is always a happy time in our family!!
I love the way you give ingredient portion sizes. I usually just cook by eye which is always good to my taste, but a little inconsistent. But you've taught me to measure with my body and common objects for the same result every time! Thank you!
Woah! 😲😱🤯 I've never had fried rice near the end mainly because I eat steamed rice along side vegetables and meat when I'm having Japanese, Taiwanese, or Mainland Chinese Shabu Shabu. This is definitely a game changer, and I will definitely incorporate this the next time I have Shabu Shabu! Thank you so much for making this video! I learned a lot today! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I'm somewhat new to making Korean food and my question is around spice. Your comment in the beginning says it won't be too spicy but with all the gochuchang and gochugaru...seems you need to build up a tolerance for that to be not too spicy?
If anyone can figure out how to get 고주장 out of the spoon without using a finger, I'll nominate you for a Nobel Peace Prize. Usually using the spoon for necessary oil first can work but does not work for this lol
Daniel-ssi...where can i order family and friends to eat with? Just kidding lol So what are the main difference of Korean style and other style of hotpot?
