In this video I will show you how to process an image using ImagR (free online application) and Gimp (free program, not free plugin) for laser engraving images on a painted canvas using the xTool D1 10w Diode Laser.
I'm using the exact same image, processed using both options, setting up in Lightburn using the same engraving settings and showing the results.

Thanks for the vid and info.. As pointed out by others it is not a true “equal test “ when you allow adjust on one but not the other.. Also the full version of image R is a paid for program and offers more options than their free one.. Do are we really comparing a $60 plug in against a $50 ( annually) full version of Image R… ?? Either way your video was most helpful as I grow my knowledge… thank you.

you completely skewed your test by not setting them both to pass-through. If you are doing a comparison, the set your paramaters to be identical. What is the point of running the plugin to process image in gimp if you are just going to change the resolution and processing of the image once more using 320 and jarvis?

I’m working on a video doing direct comparison processing the image in imgr and using gimp plug-in and running as passthrough as well as without and setting the parameters to the same in Lightburn. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm pretty sure that the instructions for using the big gimpin plugin says that once it's processed that you shouldn't resize it. Also, the plug in does process the photo so you should have pass thru turned on so lightburn doesn't reprocess it.

The instructions are guidelines. I resize every image, never use passthrough and the results I achieve are amazing. This video is not meant to dictate what you have to do or not do, merely demonstrate the results I achieve and what I do to get them.

Absolutely. He skewed his test by not running the same paramaters. All he ended up doing was processing the image in Gimp just to have lightburn re-process it at a different dpi and mode.

Now that this has been brought up, the other issue I noted was that you skipped the resolution step in ImagR. Think this video is worth a redo because I see the value in the comparison. Please keep up the great work.

Super helpfull as I'm currently weighing which to get. It seems the UI on imagR is easier to use; but I'm watching those, such as yourself, with great skill. That and I've put in my time boxing with gimp. Is ImagR easier, and does that come at the cost of fewer settings thay i haven't thoightbto look for yet?

Imgr I find takes more work than gimp. Both great options. Imgr is free online with basic options.

I have both, i have to play around with Gimp to get results but this could be down to the lack of experience i have ,Imagr i find is really good as it does everything for me i just mess around with power and speed settings then select pass through but i am using a co2 laser. thanks for sharing your video
