Along with the sustained lead method alot of it also has to do with the gauge you are using along with the distance, choke, shot size and even weather conditions.
Ya either got it or ya don't. I waterfowled for years and struggled with the getting the lead right, then this one time we had a few guests over and one of of 'em was a newfie (nothing against newfies) had never held a 12 gauge (or any gauge for that matter) b4, and proceeded to knock every clay pigeon we threw with a hand thrower! One of our gang decided to switch up the ammo for his hand loaded shells and it didn't make a dif. He was knockin' 'em outta da sky! We all looked at each other, and shrugged our shoulders and gave him a beer!
I could never quite get the ‘sustained lead’ method consistently. I ‘swing through’ the bird/clay and my brain seems to calculate the lead. Different strokes, I guess! Good shooting, Man!
I'm still waiting to see footage of a kill dropping on you and you saying "Payback is hell, lets eat." And this song comes on -- Hair of the dog by Nazareth
