This is very true. People learn at different ages and different speeds. What is required are opportunities at every stage of life so that once a person realises what he has lost, he could re engage in education in a different way. In developed countries, there are night and weekend classes for those who mature late.

Hello there, My name is George Perera. I am an Australian citizen. Currently, I am residing in Perth City. I was watching a Sri Lankan cooking RU-vid channel this afternoon and accidentally came across your English teaching RU-vid chanell. I felt deeply sorry for you, after learning about your terrifying childhood experiences during your school years. And now, It is amazing to see how you have defeated those of your fears and achieved so much success in your academic years. Great job young lady. I am so proud of you.
Madam I really appreciate your genuine effort to help the students in our country. Recently I finished MBBS. I also have a similar story. When I was in grade 4, I was extremely weak for English scoring around 26 marks. Even I couldn't answer the basic questions. Friends laughed for looking at every English letter in the board when taking down notes. I struggled a lot to learn. In the meantime I met a good teacher. She helped & guided me with some basics. I also participated for a class which was one grade below that of mine. Now I notice a difference in her teaching which guided me for the success. She never gave a list of words to study for dictation. She asked to look at the pages done in the class and find the meanings also. She gave randomly words for dictation from that section and also asked to write the meanings of those. I went home and referred a dictionary and found all the new terms with pronunciations. By the end of fifth grade I were familiar with almost all the words in the text book. 26 marks of grade 4 was converted to 98 in the 3rd term of grade five. Thereafter studied in English medium from grade 6 onwards. Finally I completed MMBS and also writes research articles in English.
Dear Prof. Wasana, we highly appreciate your effort in building confidence in Sri Lankan students in speaking English. Compared to many other nations Sri Lankan students are highly skillful in learning languages, yet there is an unnecessary fear to speak. We as English teachers, do our best to help them overcome it.

We've had similar experiences in our English learning journeys. My worst subject was English and I was in fear during classes and was hoping that I won't be called out. Around grade 6, I bought a subscription to an English library, and started reading books. By O/L, my easiest subject was English and I got A's for the subject as well as for English literature. Once I moved to an English speaking country for higher education, I picked up native proficiency easily. The trick is to read plenty of English material daily at first, and during this process, watch TV series/movies. You can also start speaking in English at every opportunity. You cannot learn English in classes except grammar. I don't think there's such a thing as "studying" English, unless you're studying technical things which you won't be using from memory. Immersing in the language is the key as I mentioned in 3 processes: reading, listening, using (speaking/writing). Mistakes are part of life, and I can assure you that even 50% of native English speakers make mistakes in English.
