Learn 1000 kanji in a month but forget it in 1 week because you dont have the time to renshuu all of them (1000) before to really remember it. Don't be so speedy and take 1 or 2 year(s) and instead of just learning kanji with app read, writte, speak, practice ! Give you time

I totally agree. No one can actually "learn" 1000 kanji in a month unless maybe they have an eidetic memory which is rare. If that were the case, most people would be fluent in 4-6 months.
@marcello4258
@marcello4258 10 месяцев назад
@@TheCatSpeaksI don’t agree. Learning kanji by memorising is something you wouldn’t do. You learn kanji by radical patterns.
@TheCatSpeaks
@TheCatSpeaks 10 месяцев назад
@@marcello4258 I didn't say memorizing kanji was easy or the way to do it. Read my previous comment again. I said people with "eidetic" could do it because they can see something only one time and it stays in their brain. It's rare for someone to be eidetic. The average person couldn't learn kanji by memory but by radicals and constant writing practice in the correct stroke order

I lived in Japan for 3 years and have been studying Japanese as a hobby for 15 years and I still can't read all the Kanji. I would say I could probably pass the N3 JLPT test, that's about it.

I passed the N5 last December and i even got some followers from japan on my twitch channel. So i can practice with native speakers now. Im really excited about this, because real japanese is a little different to booklearning. And i have also traveled to japan 4 times now and i still love. Even though i know about the dark sides of the country. Not everything is kawaii and nice even in japan

personally, i think the best way to learn kanji is definetly through vocabulary. when you learn the kanji contextualized you'll get used to and really understand when each reading is used, and at the same time learn another new kanjis since a lot of words use more than one. moreover, a lot of people only think in the number of kanji they know and totally forget to learn new words with them, and there is no much use in knowing something but not knowing how to use it 😅 our brain learns more when things are in context! i've learned around 500 kanjis like that, and honestly, is way more easier and fun

1000 in a month isn’t realistic. That’s over 30 per day. U could keep that up if very intensively doing spaced rep but only for a few days. After only 1 week you will already have over 200 new kanji that you have to recall and that’s while learning new ones. Bear in mind the above is just talking about recognising the kanji itself, you still have to learn the different readings and word combinations. It’s taken me about 1 year to learn 700 including readings to be able to start reading very simple short novels at the N3 level. Moral of the story is don’t feel like you suck if you can’t remember 1000 in a month. It’s not humanly possible to do it, and if anyone claims they have, it would only be a terse recognition without being able to read anything.

Awesome...going to check out mochimochi. I studied Japanese in university as well as studying 3 times a week at school for 3 years while living in Japan. The best advise I could give anyone. Start studying Kanji right away. I waited 15 years before studying Kanji seriously (big mistake). Learn hiragana and katakana...sure. But when you study Kanji you learn how to think like Japanese. For most people from English, Latin or Germanic languages you think in sounds in your brain...but with Kanji...you think both in sounds and in pictures. It's different. The sooner you study Kanji the sooner you will start to "think" like a Japanese person. You rock Mochi sensei! Hope you're enjoying living overseas 😃

However, if you are a raw beginner, you need to start with the alphabet first, learn how to pronounce Japanese (Hiragana & Katakana). After master Hiragana and Katakana, MochiMochi will be a great app for you to start learn some basic Kanji.

The hardest thing about kanji for me is writing them. If you wrote 議 a few times, you will be able to recognize it. But writing all of those 20 strokes is a whole different level. Until now similar kanji like 持 and 特 are not so hard for me because if you are not sure about it, you look at the hiragana behind it and know if its 持つ or 特に. Kanji really make your life easier even if learning them is a pain. Recently I learned the word for Houses of Parliament (こっかいぎじどう). I forgot the word but I memorized the Kanji (国会議事堂). And by thinking of their reading I could memorize the word itself again. So even if they look super hard sometimes, it can help you in some situations. But if you study with Minna no Nihongo, don't but the kanji book. It is absolutely not worth it
@anthracite9253
@anthracite9253 Год назад
So, you want to learn how to write 議? First, you should learn how to write 言 and 義, and then writing 議 becomes a piece of cake. Besides, you will be able to write other kanji like 儀 or 犠 very easily (if you know how to write people radical 人 and the cow radical 牛 as well). You do not know how to write 義? So, you should first learn how to write 羊 and 我 (those are 象形文字 or pictograms: they are fundamental components that cannot be broken down in even smaller components). Then, writing 義 becomes a piece of cake (and many other kanji that use 羊 and 我 as radicals become easy to write too). Furthermore, one of readings of 義 is "gi" (ギ): that is why the kanji 議, 儀 and 犠 have the same On-reading "gi" (those are semansio-phonetic characters: they have a semantic component giving an idea about the meaning, and a phonetic component giving an idea about one of the readings). Follow the same logic for most 形声文字 (semasio-phonetic characters) and 会意文字 (compound ideograph), and writing kanji becomes a piece of cake (even horrible kanji like 警, if you know how to write 敬 and 言, so that this following kanji 驚 becomes easy to write as well if you can write easily 鳥 too).

If you're looking to learn Kanji in an enjoyable way, consider giving Kappa Kanji Adventure a try. The game covers all common Kanji characters. By the time you finish all the lessons, you will have learned all of these common Kanji characters. While it won't be a walk in the park, it's certainly more engaging than using flashcards. Additionally, the game includes coverage of Hiragana and Katakana for beginners, as well as JLPT lessons for more advanced users.

spaced repetition is a bit too tedious to do so many in such a short amount of time. It's best to read and only add those kanji you already notice you've seen a few times. If it's common in the sort of thing you want to read, you'll keep seeing it and you won't fail flashcards all the time. This approach is best because the truth is you need more than 常用 to read anything interesting. It sets your expectations right that you will never stop learning kanji and you can't just learn them all upfront. And it's less painful than learning in a vacuum. flashcards and spaced repetition can be a big trap. it seems like you're learning a lot early on, but you forget most of it as the reviews get spaced further apart and you're still preparing to use the language for real. Never choose just flashcards (I know it's not what you said but many people do this).

Things you need to learn kanji 1. Kanji and vocabulary are 2 different things. Knowing kanji will not help if you have a poor vocabulary. Vocabulary is about memorizing full words, not just individual kanjis. Most words are a combinations of several kanjis and hiragana. 2. Find a good kanji dictionary, either online or printed. In Japan there are good kanji dictionaries sold in bookstores and used by Japanese students. A kanji dictionary is identical to a normal dictionary, the only difference being that it is sorted in kanji order. For every kanji it shows how the kanji is written, the correct stroke order and direction, its meaning and a list of words that use that kanji. 3. You should learn only the simpler kanjis that have fewer strokes. Complicated kanjis are usually just a combination of simple kanji, so you don't need to study them. You can study complicated kanjis when learning vocabulary. So you don't need to memorize 2000 kanjis. You need to know only a few dozens simple kanjis. All the other kanjis you can learn when learning vocabulary. 4. For each kanji you should see some examples of words that use that kanji. 5. Don't bother with kun-yomi or on-yomi. You will memorize that when learning vocabulary.

Since that time I put into practice this system. Im not joking but I learnt all the hiragana in just one week. After that I focused on kaniji avtively and hiragana passively. Until the day Im writing this I can read and write at least 48 kanji. So keep practicing guys.

Spaced repetition is the key to retention. That's also how I learn vocabulary. Every time I find a new word, I write it in my steno notebook. When I reach 5 full pages, I put a marker on that page. At the same time, I am also quizzing myself on 5 pages a day, until I reach the end of what's in the notebook, then I go back to the beginning and start over....5 pages a day. That system forces you to have a time gap between when you last saw/quizzed the words. I now have almost 2 full notebooks. 5 pages is about 22 X 5 = 110 words. I'm writing them in romaji so it's not exactly the best way, but I try to cover the most prevalent meanings. For example, if I write 'shuukan' on the left side (where I write the Japanese), I will write 2 entries on the right side (English side) on separate lines...'week duration' and 'habit, custom'. When I study the kanji flashcards, that's when I force myself to differentiate the exact meanings to the specific kanji compounds.

There are two things that discouraged me from learning Japanese. Stupid Kanji and even more stupid Counters. Almost everything (number of humans, pencils, balls, pizza, a triangle, days of months, etc) has its own numbering system called Counters. Why? For what? Other languages don't have a million different counting systems. Why everything in Japan has to be so complicated? 3 different scripts, stupid 4000 Kanji, no spacing between two words, a different script for thousands of onomatopoeia, scientific terms must be written in Katakana, thousands of honorifics, extremely casual, semi-casual, casual, formal, semi-formal, extremely formal ways of writing verbs and nouns. And above all, despite having so many Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana characters, they can't even write very simple, basic English words like him, miss, Chris, bake, Taj Mahal or bat, cat, fox, etc. Don't waste time in learning Japanese, unless someone pays you to learn. Instead, learn beautiful French, Sanskrit, Arabic, or Russian. You won't regret it. Promise!
@smashexentertainment676
@smashexentertainment676 10 месяцев назад
You forgot the toughest part - half of the kanji have up to 20 Chinese and Japanese readings and often no idea where and why use one over the other. Counters aren't too stupid tho, most languages do actually have them, tho they are not as obligatory and it's easy to get used to them. And even Japanese often eff them up, you don't have to be better than they are. Katakana is for words with foreign origin fYi. Try Korean, the grammar is very similar to Japanese, but you can learn to read it in just 15 minutes ))

Want to get it down in my brain as solid as I can, then I’ll focus on my katagana. While doing this I’ve been learning some phrases, but only ones I really like. After all that I’ll start learning kanji. Besides the time of life, I have unlimited time to slowly practice and study.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems that this app doesn't make us learn how to write kanjis manually? To visually memorize kanjis is not a big deal as there are so many opportunities to see them on web resources, etc. However, it's kinda hard to get the occasion to handwrite kanjis, so I would have appreciated a handwriting mode.

もち先生、アップの情報でありがとうございます!私は数年前に日本語の勉強を始めましたが、後でやめて、もう続けなくてしまいました。 勉強した漢字をあまり覚えられなくて、もう一度勉強しなければならないと。そのアップでやってみます。

Thanks for the mochi mochi app information 👌👌👌😁. I’m using kanji from zero now and go through 5-7 a day with 4 words each on flash cards 👌. This app is a way quicker way but I am still slowly building my foundation everyday and I’m about 80 kanji in so I’m recognizing older kanji and going back and putting it together. I’m now listening to Japanese only podcasts. I have to use my other phone to translate to make sure I’m catching on but ima keep this up everyday 😁.

I got the MochiMochi App bust still struggle to have fun repeating the vocabulary. Often it‘s complex Kanji without any context. That’s no fun from my perspective

I downloaded the app, it asked me which languages and I chose Japanese. Then it showed me two buttons with only Japanese, including Kanji, and I didn't know what they meant, so I deleted the app. If you want me to click something, make sure I understand what it is. It could have been asking me to subscribe for a fee, I just don't know.

I feel motivated just by putting together "あの人 ばかです" and "わたしは かわいいです" Whether I spelled it correctly or not 😅 (I would like corrections though) Maybe "わたし" should be " 私".. not sure.
